Thanks, Hayes. I'm off to go get ready now. I was just so tickled to post early here for once. LOL!"

Have a successful day and let us know how it went.

AH! You beat me! ;)
Good morning over there, you early bird! Have fun subbing! I wish I could tag along tomorrow.

message 1553: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey, it's not even 8am yet!! I'll have to start posting before I go to bed (mumble, plan, mumble....)

Oh, yes, have a wonderful Friday, everyone! Have fun subbing, Kathy! It's good to get out and stretch your brain once in a while.

It's wet here, but we didn't get the awful storms that they predicted. :)

Hahaha!! I'll start setting my alarm for 3:00 in the morning soon.

It looks like rain today. I want it. My little plants and grass and trees want some rain. Maybe I'll go do my rain dance outside. I hope that the neighbors don't stare.

Ha, ha, Christine. We did a rain dance once at school because we did not want to have Phys. Ed. outside (which would have included the dreaded running of the "three fields twice") and it started to hail, oops.

Christine wrote: "Hahaha!! I'll start setting my alarm for 3:00 in the morning soon...."

Ok, I give, no way I'm getting up that early!

We got enough rain. now we have to mow the lawn. Be sure to wear your best silk lounge-wear when you go outside to dance. :)

I've got my hair in a towel and my fluffy pink robe on...I thought that was a good choice. There a lot of construction guys out already...maybe I'll rethink this.

Pink is always a good choice!

I just put one of my novels on Amazon as an E-Book. To make any money, I had to charge $14.95 for it, since Amazon takes 65% of the cover price and withholds another 30% of the remainder for US taxes. Why do they need 65% when they don't do anything but have the e-file there for people to download? And worse, if you log in from a Canadian computer, the price is automatically $2 US more!

message 1560: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 16, 2010 06:27AM) (new)

That's pretty steep Gabriele! Do other sellers have similar percentages (Barnes & Noble, Waterstones, etc.?)

I ask becasue I would rather buy my eBooks from someone who is giving a fair deal to the author. (and the Amazon policy is one of the reasons I didn't buy a Kindle).

I haven't looked into having e-books listed on other sites, Hayes, since the Kindle format is proprietary and we'd probably have to reformat the book for another type of e-reader. But it is something we have to explore. Regarding my hardcopy books that Amazon carries, it was actually costing me money to sell them there (with shipping, Amazon's 55% cut, yearly fees, etc.), so I had to raise the price substantially. Can't win, eh?

Not really fair to either the author or the customer in my opinion, and, of course, if books are too expensive, most customers will likely blame either the publisher or the author, not realising that it might be Amazon policies themselves which are causing the problems. I like Amazon because it's convenient and I can often find books I would not have been able to find at a bookstore, but this makes me wonder.

Hayes wrote: "That's Barb that's going shopping, lucky devil!... I get to take my son to the orthopedist (is that the right word?)."

Yes, I meant Barb and typed Hayes! Sorry, Barb!

Gabriele, Gundula & Hayes: somebody started an "Ereader" thread just yesterday. You might want to post there, too, especially the details of how the author (doesn't) get paid. (The thread is here on comfort reads)

Hope it's nothing serious, Hayes, for your son.

message 1566: by Gabriele (new)

Gabriele Wills (muskoka) | 178 comments I've heard that Apple will only be taking 30% on their e-books for the I-Pad, and that will surely drive down Amazon's charges. And yes, I'll be looking at that format as well. Now that means I have to buy all of these devises in order to test my files. Hmmmm...

I believe my husband had the same problem at that age (it sounds familiar). Every time my daughter has a growth spurt, she gets really clumsy and eats a lot!

message 1571: by [deleted user] (new)

Hayes,
My daughter had to go to PT for about 4 months because of problems simply from growth. Her knees were is such pain, but the PT helped. I hope that everything goes okay at the doctor. Let us know.

Gabriele wrote: "I already posted something there, too, Jeannette. I'll stop now anyway. : )"

I didn't want to make you stop, I just thought you might not have seen the other thread. I'm quite surprised at how much of a take the booksellers get! It makes it easy to offer 40% off bestsellers, when you are getting 75% in the first place!

Well, I am off to a horrible meeting which I am sure will give me a horrible headache. It's the oh-so-fun time for me to share my son's medical/developmental history with the testing team. These things always make me feel like someone is jumping on my heart...ugh.

Have a good afternoon, my friends.

We'll be waiting for you here Christine. As my daughter says "glomp"! (That's teen-speak for a big hug.)

message 1580: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 16, 2010 09:36AM) (new)

Glomp? I prefer XOXOXO! Deep Breath Christine. Think sunny thoughts.

Doctor says it's tendinitis and he has to stop doing all sports for a month (fortunately the championship is over and his team didn't pass to the quarter finals. S is in a foul mood, but he will survive. The good news is that the doctor wrote him a two-month reprieve from school PE!

That works, too! :)

Yay, for no PE for two months!! (Glad he's ok.)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Oh my, what a lot of postings, or maybe it just seems that way since I started out so early and haven't gotten to check back in until now. I had a good day in the library, got to look at the catalogs and look at some of the new books that had just come in. I even got to read some today. Gee, I basically got paid to look at book catalogs, read, and catch up with some people I haven't seen in a while. Now, before anyone thinks that a librarian isn't busy, the only reasons I didn't have to do anything were 1) a great assistant and student library workers 2) there's no way I could have jumped in and done her work that she was in the middle of without being in that library on a daily basis. So, it was easy money today.

Hayes, glad your son is okay, even though he doesn't look at the break from PE like we more mature people. LOL! Christine, I hope your meeting went well and you can relax tonight. I second the hug Jeannette sent. Gundula, it sounds like you are more powerful than you realize, Ms. hail-maker. Lee, you do realize that I posted almost 3 hours before you, don't you? Hehehe. Barb, I hope you enjoy your girl time and your new golf clubs. Gabriele, hmmm, an Ipad sounds interesting. Of course, I just did finally get an IPhone, not sure I could handle any more fancy technology right now. Susanna dear, just who would you have killed? LOL!

OK, off to walk the dog, if the rain has stopped. It was a beautiful day until about an hour ago, supposed to clear up for tomorrow and be cooler. Of course, I just bought some new warm weather clothes.

message 1584: by [deleted user] (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Just wanted to pipe in at this late hour, well early hour for the afternoon. I guess I just couldn't stand prosperity, being first to post. My friend had to cancel on the book festival, and I ended up not going either. It was okay, as there wasn't anyone there this year I really, really wanted to see, and I saved a lot of money staying home. All of you wonderful ladies have a great day!
