Set a budget and think carefully, so you won't hate yourself for waking up next to a strange book in the morning! And then buy a couple extra just on impulse!! :)

I just read this, and I think it's horrible. I think the only reason for a GR group to delete a member should be if said member posted hate speech. If it really bothers you, I would maybe even report this to Goodreads.

It wasn't as uninterrupted as I would have liked. There was something wrong with the gaslines and the gas company will have to work on it at the beginning of May (the representative was on the phone with me, my cell phone outside and kept at me about when to schedule this and could not figure out that I did not have my day-planner with me, she also did not give me time to write down the information she was telling me, not impressed).

I've been trying to get a computer problem resolved since yesterday. I feel for you and understand completely!
Does your boyfriend still have hot water or did they leave things a real mess?

No, he actually changed from a gas hot water heater to an electric hot water heater and we just had to get the gas lines disconnected. The heating guy noticed that one of the valves outside could not be turned off, so he had to call the gas company (that's the law). I just did not appreciate being put on the spot about when they are going to come and fix it (it's not my house and they wanted an answer right away). So, I mad a preliminary appointment for them to come to my boyfriend's house on May 3, but really, it just drove me crazy that they expected me to make an appointment right away. I would have preferred talking to my boyfriend ahead of time and then either him or me calling the gas company back to make an appointment; I just don't like to make snap decisions, as they're often not right on the money.

You go, girl!

I didn't go nuts. I simply broke the rules with which I have been forcing myself to follow. I only got 2.

I'm proud of you, Christine! But, live it up next time! :) What did you get??
Both impulsive buys...I hope they are good. I got The Hand That First Held Mine
and
Apologize, Apologize!

Mr. Goethe's Garden
Books for Children of the World, The Story of Jella Lepman
When You Reach Me
The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate

I know, Amazon is a very dangerous website. I was just doing some research about books to looks for, but when I realised that I was SOL at the library, I ordered them.

Did you read The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox??? I loved that book! I hope that this one has a similar feel.

Is it easy to download books? Don't you miss real books?"
I still get real books. I tend to buy the version which is cheaper for me (sometimes a Kindle book might cost the same as a paperback, so I get the paperback). Some Kindle books are great bargains though, and I spend a lot less since I like to buy books when they are just released. Plus, it's excellent for travel...you can carry 20 or more books at once.

I think I would get eyestrain and headaches with a kindle (and miss the feel of a real book). On the other hand, there would certainly be less paper being used if most people switched to electronic books (but, many of the books I like to read are vintage books anyway, and so not so likely to be available for download).
I think it might be nice to have in your purse. I'm always lugging around a couple of books with me wherever we go.

I couldn't completely switch to downloaded books, but it's nice to have the options.

Not at all at all at all.... it doesn't produce light (in fact you cant read it in the dark if you don't have a book light or something. It's just like looking at a page from a book.)
ETA: I have the sony one, and the only (and very small) complaint I have is that the screen is a bit small.

Don't forget Project Gutenberg www.gutenberg.org
free books in many different languages to download
and you can help produce the books as well:

Errr...I just thought I'd say, I don't want my Kindle to produce light. Then it's not like reading paper, it's like reading a computer screen. That would bug me. Everyone is different, but for me that's a plus.
Hayes, Love the picture! LOL!

Hayes, I keep forgetting about Project Gutenberg. One of my problems is that I live in a very rural area that still only has dial-up internet access, so downloading anything which as more than just a few pages takes ages (even updating the computer is almost impossible).
Great picture, Hayes! Don't let Dixie see it, Christine! :)
I figured out a work-around for my scanner problem. HP phone support wanted $35 to fix a problem they basically created for me! It still doesn't work the way I wanted it to, but it works, so I'm going to leave it alone! (I love the emoticon.)
Project Gutenberg is great. I have it on my list to help them produce their books once my daughter starts college. It sounds like something I would enjoy doing.
Have a lovely day, everyone! :)

If you see Harlan, don't be shy...just rip the sleeve right off of his shirt to mail to me. You can do it!"
LOL! Unfortunately, he won't be there this year. Sorry. I'll try to rip his sleeve off for you another time.

My son liked Ben and Me: An Astonishing Life of Benjamin Franklin by His Good Mouse Amos, too. Lawson also has, but I haven't read, Mr Revere and I.

Hayes, I'm so glad you brought that up! I was wondering if you could read the Kindle in the dark. I already have a booklight so I guess it would work to clip it onto the Kindle?
I showed a picture of it to my husband last night. Maybe he'll take the hint and suprise me at Mother's Day!!!!

I had forgotten about Mother's Day. I better remind the girl! :)
Well, I am surprised that today happens to be the day that I am ticked off at Kindle. It seems like they are raising the prices of downloads now on newer books. Everything used to be $9.99 or less. Now I am seeing $14-$15 for some. What the heck?

Go Sony!!
I just got 4 books at Waterstones for 26 pounds.... (what's that in dollars? just looked...) 40 dollars, so 10 each. It works out better in Euros... 30 Euros so E7.50 each. I can't buy a book in English for less than 15 Euros.

That's it... I've got the PRS-505, but the newer model PRS-600 is touch screen, and one is coming out PRS-900 with a really big screen.

I think/I hope they will be when more and more people have e Books, but I agree, a lot of these things shoudl cost less.

Waterstones is advertising an Elonex too (you have to live in the UK, however; don't know if there is Waterstones in Canada) :

129 pounds which is about 200 dollars

There's a whole comparison page of the eReaders here on Goodreads... I'll go look for the link. BRB

Possibly related to a spat Amazon had with the big publishers earlier this year, when Amazon de-listed all their books for a weekend, and finally agreed they'd sell their ebooks at a larger price (which the publisher wanted), and see if anyone wanted to buy them.

Well, I won't spend over $9.99 to download anything, and I'll always chose paper if it's the same or cheaper.

Paperbacks aren't $10 yet. But, new releases.... I'll wait and see.

My mother used to say "You can never be too rich or too thin" (with tongue firmly planted in cheek), but as I am neither rich nor thin at all, my motto is "You can never have too many books or too many buddies!"
Off to bed I am. Nighty night.
