Go for it, Kathy!

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Well, you know what they/I say, "Never do in the morning what you can put off until the afternoon." The "Fly Lady" says that you are supposed to get up and get dressed for the day as soon as you get up. I've got the getting up part down, but, really, should I deprive myself of lounging around in my pajamas?

message 1403: by [deleted user] (new)

The Fly Lady needs to chill and quit looking at her reflection in the kitchen sink! That's what mirrors are for! :)

message 1404: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 13, 2010 09:19AM) (new)

*hand raised*

Who is the Fly Lady?

ETA: Googled it... boy the things you miss when you live out of the States!

message 1405: by [deleted user] (new)

Sink Reflections

She is one of those reformed "messies" who want to help those of us who are "housework-challenged."

I go through a "I'm going to get organized" phase every so often. This lady is at least humorous! Most of these books are pretty much the same -- you really just gotta do it or accept it! :)

message 1408: by [deleted user] (new)

I took a quick look at her website... kind of amusing, for about 10 minutes!

message 1409: by [deleted user] (new)

yeah, like I'm going to clean my kitchen in makeup and heels! I don't even wear makeup and my daughter stole my pumps! Maybe I do need intervention?? lol

message 1410: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 13, 2010 09:29AM) (new)

Left overs from the '50s and '60s when you weren't supposed to go out of the house without your girdle on!

message 1411: by [deleted user] (new)

Glad I missed those days! I remember my mother wearing a girdle!

message 1412: by Pat (new)

Pat | 2 comments Oh god, Hayes. The panty girdle! How did they ever convince us that is was necessary to wear those awful things? It didn't matter if you were thin as a rail, you had to wear one or you were totally out of the loop or somehow obscene.

message 1413: by [deleted user] (new)

Better than a corset! lol

message 1414: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, it's my personal maid's day off, too!

Good afternoon ladies (and any gents listening in)! I wasn't around much yesterday but I see you are all in top form.

Jeannette, you need to get one of those nifty book lights so you can read in bed without disturbing your hubby. I love mine!

And lounging around in pyjamas or house pants as I call them is a must. And the first thing I do when I walk in the house is rip off my bra. I just want to be comfy at home.

message 1416: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) The first thing I do is take off my shoes.

I grew up getting dressed first thing in the morning but I've gotten over that. ;-)

I have a friend who is addicted to the fly lady stuff. Yikes! And I am not wearing shoes in the house! What's up with that?

I remember one day that I had an appointment to take my Grandmother shopping (I was 23, she 79). She hated leaving the house, but we would try every now and then. I arrived at her apartment and found her still in her house dress. I tried to drum up some enthusiasm for the outing, when she confessed:

"I don't want to struggle into my 'corset'"
"Well, Grandma. Why don't you go without?"
"You mean no corset and no stockings?"
"That's right..."
"What a brilliant idea!" and out we went.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments There was a lovely fashion trend in the 20s that needs a comeback: lounging pajamas.

message 1425: by [deleted user] (new)

These are from the '40s, but they'll do just the same!

message 1426: by [deleted user] (new)

I love them! I don't have the right furniture to go with them! :)

message 1427: by [deleted user] (new)

Ugh, I'm upset. There is only one other group that I really feel involved in, and they deleted me for lack of participation. Boom, done...even though I posted this morning! Lee, please don't ever delete me here, I'd have a nervous breakdown.

What kind of cr@p is that?!? I would NEVER delete a member for lack of participation! You mean Goodreads? Jeez -- were you taking up room "needed" on the member list or something???

message 1429: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, here on Goodreads. I'm kind of upset because I was doing a challenge there and I loved it! It was so motivating. I don't get it.

message 1430: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't get it either. I say we all join the group and then quit in protest! Can't pick on our Christine without making me angry. Unbelievable.

I think that is a bit too much micro-managing, if you ask me. (I am really steamed for you!)

message 1431: by [deleted user] (new)

Yea, I don't like that either... go ahead PM me the name of the group so I can start a hate campaign...

(kidding, kidding!)

message 1432: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Jeannette, haha! I don't feel steamed, just sad as heck.

I'm steamed that somebody made you sad. Well, I said enough.

How do you like those satin jammies that Susanna posted?

I have several pair...whadda' gettin' at?

I will have to improve my wardrobe! I only have flannel bottoms with a mismatched top. (I am too cheap!)

I'll be right over... it's getting close to bedtime for me right now!! My silk lounging pajamas are at the dry cleaners, however, so you'll have to bear with my sweatpants and tee shirt.

In the US, girls wear flannel pj bottoms out as street clothes. Have you seen this fashion in Italy? (If you can call it fashion.)

It just kind of freaks me out whenever I see it. I just wondered if this latest trend had made it to Europe. Enjoy your book (the good one).

Wow, Christine, that's terrible.

For the record, no one here is getting deleted for lack of participation. We have tons of lovely lurkers and that's fine with me. I mean some people are just shy or have no interest in chatting. In many of my other groups I just read the posts and never say a word.

The only reason I can forsee deleting someone is if they were in any way verbally abusive to another member for any reason. I wouldn't tolerate that kind of thing. Or, if they were spamming us repeatedly. Even then I would be having a private chat with someone first.

I can't believe they just dumped you without a word.

Ugh! I'm with Lee's message 1494 (31 new messages in this thread since I last checked it!!!) As far as we're concerned in this group, everybody is welcome, whether or not they participate.

I think it's horrible to delete someone without telling them and giving them a chance to say they want to remain a member. Especially if they're participating in a challenge, but every time no matter what.

So sorry, Christine!

message 1449: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks, Lisa. I am mostly bummed about the challenge because it was the first time that I was being successful in a challenge (and one that was fun as well as good for me). Oh well.

Did you say that you already read Rooftops of Tehran?
