My husband tried to re-arrange my piles and moved them all and didn't understand when I got mad at him because they were all our of order! lol There's the "TBR" pile but then there's the "To Be Read Soon" pile and the "To Be Read later" pile and the "Quick reads between other reads" pile. He just doesn't get it! lol

I love Lori Lansens! Her book "The Girls" was one of my favorites. I had "Rush Home Road" from the library but had to take it back before I was finished. I'm on the waiting list for "A Wife's Tale" but the paperback comes out at the end of the month so if I might just buy it! (I'm one of those weird people who like paperbacks more than hardcover, not because of the price just the way they look/feel!)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Sometimes I like paperbacks better because they're lighter and easier to read on the go. Also, there's often extra material included in the form of mini reviews and updates, etc.

I love all those different piles! I just have mine a little more hidden in cupboards and various bedside tables so they don't get touched.

Wait. Is this true? I gotta' go look at Amazon.

I think this isn't the case in the US.

Can you order from Amazon.ca? I sometimes order the US cover or book (if I can't get it in Canada) on Amazon.com so I would think people from US could order from the Canadian one? Also try http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/

message 1358: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks, Carling. I checked and I think it'd be cheaper to get it on my Kindle. I'll probably do that soon.

message 1359: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks If you have an account with Amazon, you can order most books, DVD's and CD's internationally. I'm in Canada and I've often ordered books from Amazon USA, Amazon UK and Amazon Germany. You can also send books as gifts that way. For me, it has definitely been easier and faster to send Christmas or birthday gift books to my relatives in Germany through Amazon. And, as much as I like using Amazon Canada, the US site often has books available which the Canadian site doe not (or they are not in stock). And, it's been so much easier and sometimes even cheaper to order German novels from Amazon Germany than to wait until one has a chance to travel to Germany and then to be lugging around a suitcase full of books (ouch).

message 1360: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) I"ve often ordered from different amazons too, usually amazon.com/uk. I usually get my book(s) in 6 days, which is faster than when packages come from the east coast of the U.S. via UPS ground. I would definitely order from amazon.com/ca.

Good morning! I'm already running late, but wanted to say hello. Lots of school work to do today over here. Emma has a research report due tomorrow for her online class. She finished, but we need to tweak. (Is it tweek? No, I think it's tweak. I wish goodreads had spell check...I don't spel two wel). ;)

Have a great start to your days!

Katri (Valancy) | 68 comments I also often like paperbacks better than hardcovers. They are lighter and easier to move around (I like having a book with me whenever I go somewhere, and I also travel a lot to visit my parents and friends in other cities), and I also find them easier to read at home, because my favourite place to read is lying on my bed, and big, heavy books can be quite a chore to read that way!

Spring is here, finally! It's sunny and the first early flowers are coming out. The only places with snow are the big piles that were gathered during the winter and haven't had time to melt yet. The lake is still partly frozen, but I think it won't be long now... Earlier today I was feeling depressed and annoyed about job search, but then I went out for a walk and just couldn't feel unhappy after that!

We had another crashing thunder storm last night... all my little plant-lets were blown around and are water logged today. Not a ray of sunshine in sight. Enough already! I want sunshine!!

Good morning everyone! You beat me today, Christine! (Katri and Hayes are in a different time zone!) My comment box has spell check: If a word is underlined in red, it's spelled wrong. (tweek is incorrect). I wonder if it is system dependent?

Well, I started out rambling. I hope the sun comes out, because I want to get some clothes out on the line today. We did get some yard work done yesterday, too.

message 1367: by [deleted user] (new)

Indeed I think it is... when I used Explorer I didn't have it, but with Google Chrome I do.

I have an iMac and it's a great feature (spell-checking on the fly). Unfortunately, I still have a lot to learn about this machine. I am sure I'm not using a lot of the features I could be using. :)

Well, I hope that brightened your hectic morning! A trick I use is to type: "spell tweek" (or whatever) into the google bar and it returns the correct spelling. :)

Manybooks My comment box has a spell-check as well, but it's a bit of a pain, as it also underlines as wrong Canadian and/or British spelling. And, when I write in German, it obviously underlines everything.

I was surprised when you said you were getting it in paperback, didn't think, since it just was published this year in hardback, that it would be available. But, alas, those wonderful UK booksellers and such seem to have the jump on this. I like the larger trade paperbacks, but I so often can't wait until a paperback comes out with a favorite author. Enjoy A Wife's Tale, Carling.

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Well, I am just getting this post in under the a.m. mark. LOL! I am just not an early morning poster. I had a wonderful day yesterday with my daughter and granddaughters and get to see them again tomorrow. Life is good! I, also, have a dinner with friends coming up this week and a book festival to attend this coming Saturday. And, I'm even excited about mopping this week, as I bought a new steam mop yesterday. Who ever thought housework might be fun? I think I'm really just excited about it being easier.

message 1379: by Katri (new)

Katri (Valancy) | 68 comments Browsers with spellcheck drive me mad, because I write in so many different languages (principally Finnish and English, but also others) that there's no way to select a language that means I won't have everything I write underlined half of the time... And I spell British, too. :P

I also find that MS Word's spellcheck/language check goes a bit far sometimes. Lately I was writing fictional dialogue and it underlined a word in green, telling me to check out if it was the right style for what I was writing (it was a slang word, but absolutely what the character would say). I think if people haven't got any sense of the correct register then they deserve to get into trouble for using the wrong words at the wrong time, and those of us who do have a sense of style and register and who write a great deal ought not to have a word processor constantly harping at us for what is perfectly suitable language for the situation! :P

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments I'm on Firefox and it underlines words it thinks I've misspelled. Very useful. Though I ignore it when it says "blonde" is wrong. I choose to spell it that way. Take that!

I do like that it doesn't suggest a "correct" spelling, though.

In other news, it is 80! And supposed to get warmer through this week. That's a good 10 degrees over normal.

Steam mop? (I have visions of a wonderful steampunk Victorian contraption.)

I find MS Word's grammar suggestions so obnoxious that I don't use it. (If I have a grammar question, I just ask my mother! Thanks, mom.)

Manybooks Katri wrote: "Browsers with spellcheck drive me mad, because I write in so many different languages (principally Finnish and English, but also others) that there's no way to select a language that means I won't ..."

Spell-check on a word processing program is one thing, but I absolutely despise grammar and/or style check. MS Word keeps underlining if you use the passive voice or the subjunctive, which drives me bananas (I'm sorry, but especially when writing something academic, the passive voice works rather well at times). Anyhow, I agree with Katri that style is something personal (at least one should have the opportunity to not have it in use, and that should be the default). Also, spell-check often gives a false sense of security, and often essays and term papers, where the students have relied on spell-check are nevertheless spelled atrociously (namely because English has so many homonyms, and if one uses there instead of their for instance, the spell-check will not catch that).

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments What does it have against the poor harmless subjunctive?

message 1383: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Susanna, a friend of mine has one of those robotic vacuums and loves it. I'm not sure if I'd want one of those or not. What I really want is a maid, but, alas, I would have to go back to work. Better to do a little housework myself and have my reading time.

I find it really obnoxious too. My grammar is much more refined *she said snootily*... I can still hear (in my mind's ear) my father's booming voice coming from the next room as we (three siblings) were arguing about who was cheating who (WHOM!) at Monopoly.

Might be why I went on to teach English, do ya think?

Good morning! (Ha! I beat Jeannette!)

I need to find coffee before I can process what this day is supposed to be. Insomnia last night has caused me into this confused state of random babbling.

I did finish my book during the night, Cowboy & Wills: A Love Story. Oh my, I felt like she wrote it for me. I related to the autism mom so much, her experiences were so similar to our's during diagnosis. Oh yeah, and her dog eats horse poop. Dixie likes to eat goose poop. I also related to that. ;)

message 1386: by [deleted user] (new)

Good Morning, Christine. So sorry about your sleepless night. Hate it when I can't drop off to sleep, which is not happening often lately, fortunately, although I tend to suffer from insomnia.

(Was your reading the cause or the result of the sleeplessness?)

Book looks lovely, thanks for the suggestion.

message 1387: by Katri (new)

Katri (Valancy) | 68 comments The only reason I haven't yet turned off Word's grammar suggestions is that it catches up when I have just forgotten the verb... But it's annoying half the time when it's stylistically supposed to be a sentence fragment, so I do contemplate turning it off and only using it when I've finished writing...

Christine, my sympathies for insomnia. I suffer from it semi-frequently too, though less often nowadays than I used to when I was still at the university and stressed out about it. But for example early this morning, around 6 am (after going to bed around midnight so I hadn't slept enough!) I woke up and started thinking about all sorts of stupid, stressful and anxiety-causing things. I finally stopped trying to fall asleep, read for a while and then fell asleep again - and then sleeping so deeply I only woke up after 10 am and have been in groggy stupor ever since, hardly able to get anything done.

At least books are helpful friends during insomnia! I've finished many a book during sleepless nights, making them at least that much worthwhile. :-)

The reading was a result. If I can sleep, a book rarely keeps me up. I don't like to read when I am not alert. It kept me company at least.

Good Morning! My husband had to get up early, so I stayed in bed until nearly 8. Is it any wonder that I can't fall asleep before midnight? He was a bit ticked about the lights being on last night, so I had to read in the hall, like when I was a kid. :)

Christine, I am so glad that you enjoyed Cowboy & Wills. I really felt for the mom and I wondered how I would have coped. She became a pet shop junkie! And I really loved Wills. (My dog prefers goose poop!) :)

Have a great day and a better night sleep's everyone!

Thank you so much for mentioning the book. I rarely find a book that deals with autism that I enjoy. This one was very special to me.

message 1391: by [deleted user] (new)

I mentioned you in my book blog, but not by name (I don't know if you are one of those crazies that would start a lawsuit for use of your image...haha!). I read a lot of critcism of this author because she didn't want to tell people that her son was autistic. I don't share her view that she should keep it to herself (I always figure that it's better for BJ if people are aware and know what to expect), but I absolutely think that people shouldn't judge her on that. She seems like a fantastic mom.

She did seem to have trouble telling people her son was autistic, unless she had to (I remember she did several times in the book.) I guess that was her way of coping with it, along with all of the pets. She loves her son and that comes through in her story.

If you used my current "online image" people would definitely think I am a crazy person! But I'm not the litigious type (hooray for spell checker!) [I better go see what slanderous things you said about me......)

All I did was thank you, silly girl! I was just teasing to make you paranoid. ;)

I have a friend who won't tell anyone that her son has it, she thinks that she is setting him up to be different. I just don't approach it that way because I want people to be ready to help if needed. Everybody is different.

message 1395: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments OK, Christine, if you posted 4 hours ago and some minutes, then it was around 6 my time. I am not a morning person, so that is very early to me (unless I have to teach). My husband called and woke me up around 8:30 this morning. I have been sleeping in for about a week now. My dog usually gets me up by 7:30 or 8:00, but she's been sleeping in, too (bless her heart). I have one friend who gets up at 3:00 every morning, whether she's been called in to teach or not. I have another friend who is likely to sleep in until 10 (she actually got up closer to 12 yesterday). I guess I'm in the middle of that. I would rather stay up late. I use to be a real night owl, but I find that I fall asleep before I want to these days. I know that's not something those of you suffering from insomnia want to hear. LOL! Well, that's my posting on not early to rise. Everyone have a great day!
