Hello all.I am immensely proud that I signed on to MyFitnessPal (MFP) for the 365th consecutive day today. This app has kept me in my strict weight loss and maintenance regime for a whole year, and.......
I AM FEELING GREAT!!!
I am so fit these days, and my family doctor thinks I am wonderful!
Everyone appreciates being appreciated!
I lost 50 pounds in the first 16 weeks, which was through my target of losing 42 pounds, and I have maintained my weight at between 175 and 182 ever since.I was on a hockey tour with my veterans team last weekend, and I was the only guy who could've played even another minute at the end of it! I'd've played another whole match if there'd been anyone else left standing. I just feel terrific!

I agree with Lisa, that is a lovely tattoo.
Lance, your story is amazing and personally inspiring to me. I hope I can achieve similar results using the same tools. And I like your tattoo too!
I am glad that I inspire you, Lee. You are currently on a roll with your fitness and diet. Keep it up! Set targets in your mind, ans strive to achieve them. I know you well enough to know that you will not fail! And, on the other hand, YOU inspire ME, and OTHERS on this thread, with your anti-cruelty campaigns. You inspire many more people than I do, and your achievements benefit more people, and animals, than mine!
Thanks, Lance. That's very kind of you to say but as I'm sure we all know, it's easier to help others than to help ourselves. At least I find that to be true! And I am quite passionate about animal rights because other animals are routinely and callously treated so abominably by humans.
I know Lee.In my humble opinion, you are worth ten, or even a hundred, of me!
I know that other regulars on this thread share their admiration for you.
And your tattoo is SO significant.
We don't seem to be as lively on here recently. I miss all the chat and updates. In the meantime, I have been watching a series of Andre Rieu concerts on UK TV. They are absolutely wonderful!
What stands out above all else, for me, is this wonderful singer from South Africa: Kimmy Skota. You'll find other clips if you search, but watch and listen to this one.

Get yourself some tissues first. You'll need them!
Lance, I think many of us are a bit shell-shocked at the fact that GR has been purchased by Amazon. I've actually set up an alternate account at LT (Library Thing) just in case that Amazon tries to impose its rather draconian review policies (being able to edit reviews and actually owning the copyrights of the same). I am definitely not planning to leave GR any time soon, but at least until I know what is going on with GR review policy (once the deal with Amazon has been signed), I am certainly not that keen on reviewing books etc. I might end up just staying with GR for groups such as Comfort Reads and my book club groups, but reviewing books on LT (which is also a bit of a pain because GR is definitely more user friendly and more intuitive than LT).I like Andre Rieu, but I've only ever heard his music on CD or on my Ipod. Thanks for the link; I will check it out.
I feel frozen because of Gramazon. Ugh. I'm also working on a project, a long term one.
But I do hope to be back here and to my other groups to discuss books and life.
And, for now, I'm reviewing here, but even my reading is somewhat stalled given how distraught I am over the news.
Now, if AMAZON-Goodreads starts interfering in groups, all might be lost. Fervently hoping they take a light hand, indefinitely, but I'm not optimistic, especially as it pertains to book reviews and ratings.

The eighth and final episode of Broadchurch screened last evening on British TV. It was one of the best crime thriller series of the past two decades, in my humble opinion. Almost every character is a suspect as some stage or another, and it is fun to watch and discuss as a group.I believe that it has been bought by BBC America for screening in USA later this year. I am not sure about other countries, but I am sure that it will screen all over the world. Your national TV companies would be foolish to miss this one!
Unfortunately, there is no book, as it is a screenplay written for TV. But look out for it. Recommended!
Just finished No Angel
which is the first of a trilogy and takes place in the era before and after the First World War. I was enthralled.
Well I think spring has finally arrived to this little corner of Canada. We've had a few days of sunshine and I've been able to walk outside without mittens! Or a hat! And only a windbreaker! Gasp! I'm pretty happy. Now the garden just needs a little (read a lot) of work.

For the last three days, it has been almost Summer in UK. Today, I flew to Dusseldorf and it is raining and cold! Is Summer over already?!
Lance Greenfield wrote: "For the last three days, it has been almost Summer in UK. Today, I flew to Dusseldorf and it is raining and cold! Is Summer over already?!"Germany does tend to get a lot of rain (especially in the north).
I didn't know the movie was based on a book. I've got the movie on hold at the library but now I'll get the book first, especially if it's excellent.
Does anyone else have summer travel plans?

Including snow? I hope not.
Lee wrote: "Does anyone else have summer travel plans?"After all of the [unpredictable] business travel, I shall be going to Ankara in September for a mix of business and family holiday with Joy, and then two weeks in St Lucia with Joy and our son, Pete's family in November. Can't wait!

I think it snowed whilst I had my back to the window! My colleagues wouldn't lie to me, would they?!

I would rather have a Scottish climate than the heat and humidity we often get in Southern Ontario in the summer.
This morning, I ran 5.5 km around the streets of Dusseldorf in preparation for this weekend. I will do the usual 5 km park run in Andover on Saturday, and then "The General": 10 km over rough terrain near Winchester. The course runs around Cheesefoot Head, which is where General Dwight D Eisenhower addressed the troops before the Allied invasion of France on D-Day, 6th June 1944.

Seriously, good luck this weekend!!
Gundula - How did you get access to the CCTV cameras at Düsseldorf airport? I have cleared security, and I am sitting in a cafe near the gate, eating a very nice, freshly-cooked pizza, and sipping a glass of Schlösser Altbier! You are amazing!
Lance Greenfield wrote: "Gundula - How did you get access to the CCTV cameras at Düsseldorf airport? And I know this probably would not appeal to you, unless you like experimenting and unless you like fruit, but the next time you are in Düsseldorf, try Albierbowle (which is Altbier with fruit cocktail, pretty good actually).
I was a soldier stationed in Dusseldorf in the early eighties. I can remember lots of fluids passing my lips, but I don't have many memories of solids following the same path! Nevertheless, I will try it. After mehr Altbier, Kippelpitsch und Apfelkorn!

I was stationed in Dusseldorf as a soldier in the late seventies and early eighties. I remember lots of Altbier passing my lips, but I can't recall many solids following the same route! But I'll try it the Altbierbowle next time I'm in town. boy, it's changed a lot in thirty years!I may have to swallow a few Killepitsch and Apfelkorn before I move on to the fruit though!
I just had to share this, I am so proud I could burst. Gordon, my 18 year old son, has just been given his dream role as Inspector Javert in an Edinburgh Fringe production of Les Miserables. He is thrilled to bits and so am I.
