I just went to Paris on Eurostar. Out on Monday and back today. Still not home.
On Monday, at St Pancras International, I was walking against the tide of incoming Olympic teams. First it was New Zealand, and then it was Cuba.
London is awash with Olympics-mania!
I am very excited!
It goes from Friday the 27th through Sunday the 12th.Opening ceremony evening of the 27th. Tomorrow/later today depending on where you are.
Okay, here's a thread for us:

Hi everybody! Just popping in to say hello in this insanely busy summer. I've been quiet but keeping up with your chats. I'm definitely looking forward to squeezing in some Olympic viewing on the web in between being dragged around town by miss Maggie.
There are tears of pride in my eyes! I have to ask myself if the great Maria Callas has been reincarnated in the shape of my niece, Katrina Nimmo. Here she is, singing O Mio Babbino Caro.
She didn't even know that she was being filmed until after the event.
Thanks Lisa. She's been such a darling little girl ever since she was a baby. Even though she's 26 now, I can't think of her as the woman she is. She's a good actress too. My sister and I always waited for the teenage explosion, but she never changed.
How refreshing. I don't know too many teens who don't go through trying times. Lucky her and lucky people around her too.

Did you start it? I will have to look. I watched the opening ceremonies with my son last night. He loved it! He is glued to all of the events today which I wasn't expecting. The ceremonies last night were wonderful.

I have been running around like a fool for days....my husband is traveling for work starting tomorrow, and I am hosting book club on Monday. It's gonna' be a big one because several people are bringing friends. We have a few members who just blow it off too much and refuse to take a turn at hosting so the rest of us are trying to rebuild. Of course this time it looks like everyone is showing up, even the blower-offers, so I have a lot to get ready.
Benjamin's birthday is coming up in a week and I better start getting ready for that too.
My biggest challenge? Not eating any of the food I will be making!!

That last bit is hard, but you can offset it by bragging about your progress on MFP. They will admire your willpower, even if you are secretly finding it tough.
Simran wrote: "Hey guys ! I missed the opening ceremony, was fast asleep lol !..."You're not the only one, Simran. It started at about 6.00 am and I decided to stay in bed. Still haven't managed to watch anything.
Simran wrote: "Hey guys ! I missed the opening ceremony, was fast asleep lol !! Then i decided to give the rerun a miss to watch The Dark Knight & the Batman movie before that. Was aiming to watch the latest one ..." Hey Kim, we had 1 hour delay (started in the Netherlands at 10.00 pm, but we haven't watch the opening either. So far I've seen bits and pieces of cycling (old Vino got gold. Hooray for that veteran) and the Dutch swimming girl got silver and were content about it (Australia won. 3 times Hooray)
Here's what my husband and I were doing this past weekend....

Hi all, we got back on Saturday from two weeks in the beautiful sunny South East of Ireland. I am feeling refreshed and raring to go. It is the best holiday we have had in ages.
Jane wrote: "Hi all, we got back on Saturday from two weeks in the beautiful sunny South East of Ireland. I am feeling refreshed and raring to go. It is the best holiday we have had in ages."I'm glad you enjoyed yourself!!
And for those interested, we do have a London 2012 Olympics chat thread:http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/9...
We packed a lot into our two weeks. We visited Waterford, the oldest city in Ireland, Dublin, Cork and Cobh (also called Queenstown) which was the last place that the Titanic picked up passengers before sailing for the US. Everywhere we went the people were lovely - welcoming and genuinely interested in you. We are already planning going back. Also we had 2 weeks of sunshine after having weeks of rain in Scotland which really added to our overall enjoyment.
It was great Kim, I really feel like my batteries have been recharged and msybe now I will be able to get back to the important things (like Goodreads) instead of wasting my time playing silly computer games. Also Douglas, my oldest boy found out he had a job yesterday after months of looking so I am very happy.
Are you having a holiday this year?
Jane wrote: "Are you having a holiday this year? ..."This year's holiday has come and gone, Jane. We had a couple of weeks in California in February. We'll have a week at a beach house near my mother's place at Christmas, but otherwise no more holidays till March next year, when we go to France for a month.
Simran, I adore travel, it is absolutely one of my favourite things to do. At the moment we tend to go only places we can reach by car (and ferry) because it is so expensive for 5 of us to fly but we have had some amazing holidays without going abroad. I love to meet new people too.Kim, at least you have next year to look forward to and France is beautiful. What part are you going to or are you going to travel all over?
I'm in the hotel gym in Croatia. No rowing machine, but variety is the spice of life!Worked out by doing one minute intervals on the stationary bike. It said I burned 375 calories, so that's my diary entry. It also said that the distance I covered was just over 16. The units are unclear. Could be nautical miles for all I know!
Lance Greenfield wrote: "I'm in the hotel gym in Croatia. No rowing machine, but variety is the spice of life..."Sounds great, Lance. Enjoy that holiday!
Jane wrote: "Kim, at least you have next year to look forward to and France is beautiful. It's still ages away but I'm really looking forward to it.
Simran wrote: "A holiday, any kind of holiday, sounds perfect right about now lol !"Oh yes. It's exactly what I need.
It sounds wonderful, I have been to Paris but never to Provence or the Loire although I would love to go one day.
Hi all comfies!
My little boy is 14 today. Holy cow. He woke me up at 5:00 this morning because he was so excited. He wanted to know if his voice had gotten deeper since he was 13 yesterday. Hmmmm....(I told him yes, haha)
So today I am baking a cake and hanging out with him. :)
How is everyone else?

Having fun in Croatia, and planning a day trip on the ferry to Venice. It will probably be next Tuesday.
Happy birthday to BJ!! What a fun way to spend the day.

Veggies are Tuesday and Thursday. Today I stayed home and read manga! :D Tomorrow we are volunteering at the library program, Hot Dog Dinner Theater, hot dog lunch and a magic show.
I hope you have a much fun today, as I will tomorrow! lulz!
I won't be eating any hot dogs -- hmmm, I better pack a lunch!
I did that, too, on a small seed in some whole wheat bread. I had a veneer put on, which was pretty much painless. Good luck!
Is it a big chip? My chip exposed the inside, and had to be covered, so on went the veneer. You can't put a filling on the edge of a front tooth. (I do not like dental work, either, so I hope you got a nice one!) Be brave! (And be watching your mailbox.....)
Thanks Jeannette and Simran!

Happy birthday from me as well. Tell Benjamin, I won't sing for him, it might wreck your computer, ha.

I wonder if it fell in through the roof or into the chimney (it was really raining that day). But it also might have slipped in when I opened up the front door to check how badly it was raining. I hope it found its parents.
