I have family coming to stay in May for my daughter's graduation, so I figure it's a good excuse to get rid of stuff -- especially paper scraps. I had some coupons that expired last year! I tend to collect recipes, newspaper clippings, and coupons. I finally put monthly folders in a file cabinet for important stuff, it's just actually getting the paper into the folders that is the trick.

Curse you, Christine! Now I better get to work and get off the internet!

Have a lovely day, everyone!

Yikes! Sure, blame me and also try to sell off my kid at the same time. I see how you are.

message 6803: by [deleted user] (new)

Jeannette, I'm not sure if I have told you...Benjamin is obsessed with Japan. He has been for most of this school year (we have no idea what triggered it). Today they had a culture festival at school where the kids could wander countries (different classrooms had different countries). He spent his whole day in Japan, haha!

message 6804: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks Christine, you should maybe take Benjamin to one of these Japanese restaurants where they cook right in front of you.

message 6805: by [deleted user] (new)

We keep trying to do that, but every time we've had to cancel our plans. But yes, I want to do that.

message 6806: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks Christine, if Benjamin likes fantasy, Dragon Sword and Wind Child by Noriko Ogiwara seems interesting. I have not read the book, but it's on my to-read list (I loved Lord of the Rings and some people claim that this book is rather similar in scope).

Cool! I will look around to see what I might have for him. I can also recommend some good anime films and manga (clean, and family-friednly), if you like.

You're welcome, I've heard that if you like LOTR, you will most likely also enjoy this book.

He does like fantasy, but his language skills are tricky. I will look and see if it would/wouldn't be above his level. Thanks!

message 6813: by [deleted user] (new)

Manga (remember it reads r-to-l)

Yotsuba&! Volume 1
Kingdom Hearts
Clamp School Detectives, Volume 1

Not manga:

Shipwrecked!: The True Adventures of a Japanese Boy

Anime:

My Neighbor Totoro
Ponyo
Kiki's Delivery Service

I have not read the book yet, but you should perhaps also check if it might be available as an audio book. The book itself is quite long; I have a copy, just have not gotten around to even opening up the Amazon shrink wrap, ha, ha, ha.

Here's a language and culture website, for kids.

Looking at the reviews, it seems to be shelved as young adult by many people.

Ronyell (rabbitearsblog) | 174 comments I've been thinking about Starbucks Coffee lately since I went to Starbucks today on one of our shopping sprees! What kind of coffee do you like if you drink any? I usually drink cinnamon, regular or hazlenut!

message 6822: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm more of a tea drinker, so I tend to buy lattes (milked-down coffee), hazelnut or vanilla. I have a weak spot for mochas, too.

message 6823: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) I never drink coffee. 99% of the time, my drink of choice is water. I do occasionally enjoy fresh squeezed fruit & vegetable juices, hot soy cocoa, and teas: various types of black, green, and herb.

message 6824: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Christine, I'm preparing for a garage sale in a few weeks. I have at least 300 books to sell. Bookshelves are still full, with overflow in baskets and such. I have rearranged and organized shelves, so at least I better know just what I have left. I don't think I want to count how many I do have left. I guess when my friends say I have a library in my house, they are right. LOL! I can't believe how much other stuff I have to get rid of, too. Amazing!

message 6825: by [deleted user] (new)

Kathy,
I only have about 70 so I should probably go through my shelves again. Now here is the funny thing...after seeing your message my first thought was that I want to come to your garage sale and buy books.

I love drinking tea also!! My favorite brand of tea is green tea!! I just love drinking Green Tea all the time, but mostly when I'm reading!

Green tea, yes (with jasmine flavour, or with lemongrass), I also love white tea and I found this decadent chocolate/chili flavour black tea. I don't generally drink coffee, because my body and my brain do not like coffee.

message 6828: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Gundula, I like white tea too. And green with jasmine reminds me of my mother because we used to go to the Japanese Tea Garden (admission used to be free) and get jasmine tea and Japanese cookies. Yum! Right now I have some white tea with acai berry essence in it and it's great. I'm not wild about red tea or Earl Gray but I like most teas.

Ronyell, Green tea is supposedly healthy.

But, I'm a slow caffeine metabolizer which means it really effects me. I can drink a single cup in the am and still not be able to fall asleep at night. So, I'm mostly a water drinker.

Coffee affects me in really weird ways. Sometimes I am fine with it, but more often than not, I'm bouncing off the walls (but not in a way that I am productive). I'm glad that the caffeine in tea does not affect me like the caffeine in coffee, I really love tea, herbal, white, green and black.

I love the Green Tea sweetened with ginseng honey. Not too sweet but not too bitter either!

Now that sounds really interesting for a tea. Guess I am the odd one out. I love coffee, the smell and taste. I'm not very affected by the caffeine either. I do also really love tea and try to switch between the two. Of the tea I really like hibiscus, chamomile and green tea with jasmine as well. I usually add some honey too.

Ronyell, I love coffee and am sold on Dunkin Donuts coffee. I buy the regular and French Vanilla. However, I have cut back on my consumption of it lately. I drink decaf, too, going with Folger's Smooth brand. I'm a great collector of mugs, too. I, also, love tea, but in the past few years, I haven't drunk as much. Lately, I've been trying to drink a lot more water than anything else. (I say that a I sit here with a cup of coffee in the afternoon. LOL!)

Thanks, Ronyell! We're going out to the Thai restaurant to celebrate my daughter's birthday! We get the same thing every time -- but it tastes so good...

message 6843: by John (new)

John Tomorrow I start a month of volunteering at the best literary event here in Victoria, the Book Drive. For the first few days we set up tables. Then next weekend people drop off donated books. The following two weeks we sort them into rough categories and then on May 14-15 we sell them. Last year we had around 300,000 books. It is a great fund raiser and I get to see my annual Book Drive friends!

message 6844: by Lisa (new)

How was her birthday?

message 6847: by [deleted user] (new)

Eight girls is rather high volume, but it was a lot of fun! They watched a bunch of weird Youtube videos after cake and ice cream, rather than a Jane Austen flick. :(

Dinner at the Thai restaurant is always good, but we were really stuffed after Easter dinner on Sunday! I made oatmeal for dinner last night.

How was your weekend?

message 6848: by [deleted user] (new)

We had a good weekend over here. The expected family drama, but nothing new. I wish the sun would come out today though, it's so dreary!

I wish the sun would come out as well. Yeah, some places in both the US and Canada are really hurting with regard to weather (I'm glad I don't live in Manitoba, yikes).
