FedEx SmartPost -- unbelievable. :( I was so looking forward to my new book, too.

That's why Borders is not my favorite place to order from either, Jeannette. Poor you! I hate watching the tracking for books.

Yeah, WI on Friday had me all excited!! Surely, I would have the book by Monday!! But, no..... They didn't even wave as they drove by. :(

Speech Contest went really well this weekend! So well, that the girl was selected to perform at All-State. Yay!

That is amazing! What a wonderful daughter you have.

message 6510: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks, everyone! I think I'll keep her. All-State is fun because the competition is over, and the kids just come to perform and watch the other top kids from across the state. It's a fun day!

Thanks, Brenda! She's pretty excited about going again (this is second All-State performance).

Terrible, terrible me. Yesterday could have been horrible if the dog hadn't saved the day. I was doing some Goodwill gathering and had a hefty bag (a black one) full of clothes that I put by the garage door. Stupid me didn't close it up because I thought I might add something. Anyway, after a while I went back to it, tied it up and lugged it out the the garage. I go back in the house. Dixie starts freaking out. I (stupid me) ignore her thinking it's a noise outside bugging her. She starts almost attacking the garage door. This goes on for a minute until I say to her that it's nothing, and turn the garage light on to show her...
Well then the bag moves. My cat is inside the sealed plastic bag of clothes that I intended to take to Goodwill in 3 days. How did the dog know that, I have no idea. But she saved the cat.

message 6515: by [deleted user] (new)

How cool! Good thing you trimmed those bangs for her, old eagle-eyed Dixie! :D

(Don't kick yourself, Christine. Cats are notorious for leaving no open bag, or box, unexplored.)

message 6516: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks Wow, I agree with Jeanette, that is so cool, give Dixie a big treat. Jeannette is right, Cats have a tendency to explore and to get into almost anything that is left opened, so don't kick yourself. One of my parents' barn cats somehow got under the hood of the veterinarian's truck and ended up (safe and sound) in High River, Alberta (about an hour away from Calgary). By the way, is this the same cat who was sleeping in the air vent a few months ago?

message 6517: by Maude (new)

Maude | 479 comments Christine, How wonderful you have a Wonder Dog!!!! And yes, how horrible it would have been if you had lost your cat. I am so glad everything turned our well and you now know that Dixie is a special canine, who no doubt is expecting a lot more treats.

message 6518: by [deleted user] (new)

Gundula,
Yes, this is my vent snoring cat, haha! The other kitty just sleeps 23 hours and 56 minutes a day so she stays out of trouble.

Manybooks Christine wrote: "Gundula,

Some cats just love to explore (and they often love warm and soft areas, the clothing also might have smelled comforting). That same barn cat I mentioned also almost hitched a ride to Calgary in one of our boarder's tack boxes (my parents board horses). Luckily, ever since the High River incident, people were checking their cars and boxes, so this time, there was no traveling cat.

message 6520: by [deleted user] (new)

Does the snoring cat have claws? If so, she would have gotten out on her own, especially when the air was used up. Still, cats can, and will, put themselves into the dumbest places. Maybe Dixie was doing a victory dance, thinking you had finally put the cat out with the trash?? lol

message 6521: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, we don't declaw. She actually is polydactyl so she has two extra paws to help any escape plan. I guess you are right, she would have been okay, but I still felt rotten.
Dixie was definitely upset. Go figure. You would think that she'd be less anxious to save anything that takes attention away from her ever.

Comfy-os, Comfy-os! wherefore art thou Comfy-os?
Deny thy housework and refuse thy jobs.
Or if thou wilt not, I'll be but bored my loves
And I'll no longer be in chatty mood."

Wait, my current book is again impacting my speech. What I meant to say is, what is everyone up to today?

message 6524: by [deleted user] (new)

What kind of book are you reading? \@.@/

Are you enjoying it? I put it on my tbr list.

Had any animal mishaps today? I was planning on washing blankets and things to hang out to dry, but it's raining. I'm hoping the rain goes away. I took my first really long walk yesterday, after being cooped up all winter.... It was wonderful.

message 6525: by [deleted user] (new)

I started my outdoor walks this week too. Isn't it great?

This book is about a modern day Juliet (Julie Jacobs, aka Giulietta Tolomei) who fnds out that she is related to the real person who inspired Shakespeare's story. It goes back and forth between her story as she hunts for the truth and her ancestor's in 1340. I am enjoying it, but maybe not as much as most (it seems to have a million 5 star reviews here, but it's got some flaws in my opinion...but who am I???).

message 6526: by [deleted user] (new)

I keep reading 5-star books, with limited success. Everybody's taste is different. I'll look for your review.

message 6527: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 286 comments Finally have my first no coat day here. A tad cool but I can get by with a sweater at least. Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Morning comfies! The tree people are here to remove the willow stump (the remains of the victim of the big storm last August). They will also take down the Canadian Plum, because it is diseased. That's 3 trees gone in one season. :( (We lost a crab apple, too, in the storm.) If the weather holds, I think we'll go tree shopping this weekend.

message 6529: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi,
I am checking in from my phone because I am babysitting today. Hopefully we will get a walk in before it rains but she's sleeping so we'll see. Starting a new book today.....but which one??

message 6530: by [deleted user] (new)

How was Juliet? Have you reviewed it?

message 6531: by [deleted user] (new)

Jeannette wrote: "How was Juliet? Have you reviewed it?"

I posted one on my blog. I might copy it at goodreads...?

message 6532: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks This has been a very strange day. I was working on some reviews this morning, when the doorbell rang, and my parents were at the door. They had flown in from Calgary (and had not told me beforehand). The whole situation is quite weird because they want me to visit, but they only want me to visit without my boyfriend with the result that we have not seen one another for about three years (probably even more). The visit went better than expected, although they are still adamant about not wanting to see my boyfriend and that if I visit, I need to visit them by myself. Well. at least they have agreed to go to a joint therapy session (me and them) with my therapist tomorrow, we'll see how that works out. Obviously, my boyfriend knows nothing of this as yet, but I don't think he'll be too pleased if and when he finds out about it. On the other hand, it cannot get much worse than the situation is now, and although I was kind of taken aback and completely unprepared to have them show up unannounced, I am in a way kind of glad the issue has now been sort fo forced into the open. We'll see how it goes tomorrow!!

message 6533: by Maude (new)

Maude | 479 comments Gundula, What a surprise! I hope that some good things come about with the therapist. I will keep my fingers crossed.

message 6534: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, good luck tomorrow! Did you know they were in the country? The whole thing is so strange, that they would come all that way unannounced. I really do hope you can work this out. They took a big first step; let's hope they take the next one, too. I'll be thinking about you tomorrow!

I knew they were back in Calgary, but other than that, this was a complete surprise. I don't want to jinks anything, but I do hope it goes alright tomorrow, it cannot get any worse, but in many ways, my therapist is on my side (on the other side, it will probably be good for her to hear their take on the matter as well). It is really strange. I guess they talked to my mother's own therapist (who has read my NLD report) and she suggested it, weird.

message 6536: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow, sounds like your mom is serious. And, maybe her therapist is actually doing a good job, too. We'll be here for you if you have happy news, or if you need to vent!! Hopefully, happy news. :)

message 6537: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Gundula, A very strange surprise. I hope maybe, just maybe, the joint therapy session and the visit, will resolve this horrible situation. Wouldn't it be great if their visit was a sign they were willing to accept your boyfriend/your relationship/your choices?! I'm hoping that's the case.

I wish that conversation would just die a natural death, but a few individuals keep bringing it up (and using only chat-room type talk to try to get their points across). I swear, chat-rooms at times seem to take away the ability to write in longer sentences (I know I'm being a bit of a curmudgeon here, but sigh, I do not want GR being taken over by thousands of youngsters using IMs and chats and clogging up the website, preventing reviews from posting etc.).

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Gundula, Those poorly worded posts irk me too!

But if you mentioned this, you would likely start some kind of "war" (some of these posters are already up in arms because not so many GR members want a chat option; I think they are for the most part spoiled children who cannot take no for an answer).

message 6546: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Gundula, Then again, I'm a spoiled child who doesn't like taking no for an answer re half stars. Hee hee. Culprit here. ;-) But, I'm polite about my repeated championing of this feature. Ha!

However, that is an actual idea that makes sense (at least to us) and you and I don't usually only write comments like "hmmmm" or "lol" (we might use these, but only in conjunction with longer comments, usually). I'm just tired and a bit cranky, maybe I need a nap, wahhh.
