Darn you and those opinions! You are really such a trouble-making type.

Sounds like my own family, except my mother always agrees with my father and vice versa (and your in-laws at least accept the fact that you and your husband are married and don't stipulate that he has to visit them without you). But I understand, it's a real pain. What does your husband think about all of this?

message 6405: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, my husband feels bad for me, and he does stick up for me. He's kind of stuck in the middle. It's just a personality clash, really. And, once we get back to the US, and tempers cool, then my in-laws are pretty nice to me. It's not always bad. But, he holds a grudge even longer than my family. And we're famous for never letting go.

I just get worked up in the time leading up to the trip. And, I have learned to "not annoy" him, if I can. I try to avoid pushing his buttons. He was in management for a long time, and I was on my own for a long time (I married when I was 36), so he wants to be in charge, but I never let him. We're both obstinate, but I'm nicer. That's the rub. ;)

message 6406: by [deleted user] (new)

Jeannette,
I understand completely. I experience that worked up tension before I see my sister every time. And our visits are always full of tension. I can usually only take 24 hours and then I'm done...for like a year.

And you are indeed nicer. :)

I feel better today! :D

A German manager, yikes. I'm glad you're feeling better today :-)

message 6409: by [deleted user] (new)

You understand, Gundula! ;)

Oh, yes I do (I go through it all of the time because except for me, all members of my family are what I would call German managers)!!

Oh, no! Now I understand your situation better. :(

It's a definite pain, especially since I am really unorganised.

Good morning comfies,
My daughter is 15 today. 15. How did that happen? Anyway, I will be baking a cake today and preparing her favorite dinner. We'll be taking her out on Friday. Right now I have to go bang on the door so that she gets out of the shower, haha!

Happy birthday to your daughter, Christine. I hope she has a good day.

She woke up in a great mood (even though she has 2 tests today). She got to wear her new North Face sweatshirt which made her happier than I realized clothing could make a person. I am baking her a 3 layer chocolate cake.

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Christine, here's wishing you daughter a fantastic birthday. With you as her mom, I'm sure it will be great, especially with a 3 layer chocolate cake. Yum!

message 6417: by [deleted user] (new)

Happy Happy Birthday, Emma! Enjoy the cake and the new clothes and Friday night's dinner! :)

Oh, sweetie, you should definitely go back to bed. Sinus infections are horrible. Hope you feel better soon, Jeannette!

Well, I'm still among the living.... I finally got tired of sleeping; I was exhausted yesterday. Speech contest this weekend in Omaha, so I've got to be in shape by Friday. I guess I have to stop staying up so late; it wreaks havoc with my immune system.

How was the birthday party, Christine? I sure would like a slice of that cake! :)

You probably needed the rest. Every once in a while the body says, "enough" and if you don not listen, the immune system lets you know. I hope you're feeling better today, don't do too much, just because you are up and about. March is a horrible time for colds (weather is so unpredictable).

message 6425: by [deleted user] (new)

We got snow last night. I'm going to take it easy today, but it is nice to be upright for a little while.

Read a good book, drink some tea, and let the rest of the family baby you (you've been worrying too much as well).

message 6430: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Christine, where do you live and what time are you serving cake? We'll all be there!

message 6431: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey Christine! Are you hungover from all that cake and ice cream?

message 6432: by [deleted user] (new)

I had a migraine yesterday. I am now emerging from that. How are you feeling over there, Jeannette?

message 6433: by [deleted user] (new)

My ears hurt from sleeping so much; too much pillow time! I'm much better than I was on Tuesday.

Where are you going on Friday?

message 6434: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks Jeannette and Christine,

I'm glad you are both feeling better today; ugh, I hate migraines. You guys should still take it easy for a while :-)

message 6435: by [deleted user] (new)

Friday for dinner? It's up to Em so I'll have to wait and see. She usually chooses well though. :)

Thanks, Gundula. :)
Today I need to get some things done around the house, but I'm too tired to push it much.

message 6436: by [deleted user] (new)

"Take it easy" is a great idea, Gundula! I'm lucky I had made a good pot of your vegetable stew over the weekend so hubby had something for lunch these past couple of days. :)

Don't push yourself today, Christine. You want to be healthy for Friday's dinner.

message 6437: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, indeed. Especially if there is a good dessert menu.

That's funny, I made a pot of that stew myself a few days ago. That reminds me, I should heat it up, it's getting time for lunch.

message 6440: by [deleted user] (new)

I've been daydreaming about chocolate cake for the last two days....

message 6450: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, we've been chatting with Lisa, and she hasn't mentioned anything. The waves don't seem to have done much damage in the US or Hawaii. Everyone I know in Tokyo is okay, including my GR friends. There is a lady I was just getting to know and she lives in Sendai, where the real bad waves hit. I haven't heard from her yet.
