Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Thank all you sweet ladies for the Happy Birthday wishes. Please don't apologize for being late, because I'm terrible at keeping up with birthdays on here. I like it when someone says it's their birthday so it reminds us. I told my husband that what I wanted was a lighted cover for my Kindle. They run around $60, so I ordered that and a book to come in for my birthday. The book is The Lost Art of Reading: Why Books Are So Important in a Distracted Time. I, also, picked up a couple more, Guardians of Ga'Hoole Collection: Legend of the Guardians and These Things Hidden. Oh, and my daughter gave me a nice plant, too. My son called me, as he is living lean in his college days.

message 6352: by [deleted user] (new)

Are your granddaughters reading Guardians of Ga'Hoole? I never thought about putting kids books on a Kindle! lol

message 6353: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments I'm reading it first, Jeannette, and then my granddaughter is borrowing it. I love that she and I enjoy some of the same books.

message 6354: by [deleted user] (new)

That is fun, Kathy!

message 6355: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm glad that you had a nice birthday, Kathy! The lighted cover for the kindle is really useful, I love mine! I didn't expect to use it as often as I do.

These Things Hidden is a goodie, great choice!

message 6356: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, I was going to say, I got a new phone for my birthday (a month early...that is not a hint that it's my birthday) because Emma needed/wanted a phone for her's so we did a group thing. Emma's birthday is next week so we both got them early. Anyway, I have spent my entire weekend trying to learn how to use this phone. It's an Android so I can put books on there. It syncs up to my Kindle so I am not buying things separately.
I can also get to goodreads on there! Yay! Emma and I have spent wayyyyyy too much time playing with ringtones in the past two days. I was able to find the psycho music for my sister's tone. I always wanted that.

message 6357: by [deleted user] (new)

Which tone did you choose for the SIL?

Wish Emma a very happy birthday! It's nice you have new toys to play with together. :D

Good to hear about These Things Hidden, Christine. I hope Emma has a great birthday! It sounds like you two are having lots of fun with your phones.

Good morning comfies,
I haven't had reading time in days and it's driving me crazy! How do non-readers stay sane? Yikes! I have a really busy week but hope to do some reading anyway....maybe I won't sleep. Hmmmm......

How is everyone else?

message 6360: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 28, 2011 06:44AM) (new)

'Morning Fred! (Do you remember the Wile E. Coyote cartoon, with the sheep dogs?)

Anyways, I have a few things to get done this week, too, and haven't done much reading since I finished Jane Eyre. I seem to hit a slump right after I finish something really good! I'm thinking about shutting off my internet. Maybe that would help?

Have a great day everyone! One more day of February left.

message 6361: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments How do non-readers stay sane, Christine? I can't imagine not having a book to look forward to. Oh, and Jeannette, I do relate to what you are saying about finishing a great book and then hitting a slump. I think we just want all the books we read to be great, and, of course, they should be. LOL!

message 6362: by [deleted user] (new)

Sometimes it is a roller coaster ride, sometimes a bungee jump! lol

Love that!

:) thanks -- I don't know where it came from.

who says they are! LOL! I have a friend who cannot read due to vision problems and she rarely feels sane. Which reminds me I need to call her to see how she is.

message 6366: by [deleted user] (new)

I hope she can listen to a few good books! ;)

Thanks for the suggestion.

message 6368: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow-wah. None of my posts came through last night. You guys are kinda' lucky I guess because I rambled. I wonder where they went, poor lost posts.

message 6369: by [deleted user] (new)

I wondered where you were, Christine? And once the muse has flown, the posts are never to return....

message 6370: by [deleted user] (new)

I was impressed with your mastery of words yesterday and made a long gushy post about it. Hmph.

message 6371: by [deleted user] (new)

How sad, that I had to miss out on an ode to my mastery of poetic prose! Next time, type in a Word doc, and then post, so GR doesn't lose your magnificent work! ^.^

message 6372: by [deleted user] (new)

It wouldn't be the same to reproduce it, very sad. The emotion that I was experiencing was one of a kind.

message 6373: by [deleted user] (new)

:( I feel you sadness.

message 6374: by [deleted user] (new)

Babysitting today, and tomorrow, and the next day. I'll check in from my phone when she naps. Have a good start!

message 6375: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Hope your babysitting goes well, Christine. I have a cold, not a really bad one, but enough that I've decided I am going to pamper myself today and allow myself to read and do lazy stuff.

message 6376: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi comfies,
I have been so out of touch this week, sorry. Kathy, I hope that you are feeling better by now. I am looking forward to staying in and doing some reading this weekend.

message 6377: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Feeling much better today. Thanks, Christine. I hope to get some serious reading done this weekend, too.

message 6378: by [deleted user] (new)

Good morning ladies and gents! I hope everyone has a lovely weekend. We are going shopping for a bed for the girl, who is no longer as little as she was when we bought her current bed. It was some years ago. I might spring for some new sheets, too. It's too cold and yucky to do anything else.

Have a good one!

It gray and rainy here today. I'm trying to work up the energy to exercise but I'm hungry!

Jeannette, I love buying new sheets!

message 6380: by [deleted user] (new)

I always enjoy buying new sheets. The best place for sheets and duvet covers is IKEA, but they are too far away; so I'll settle for Target.

Have a light snack, toast or something. You can't exercise on an empty stomach!

message 6381: by Lee, Mod Mama (new)

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
Yes, I've decided to eat first! YUM.

Have fun shopping! I hear we may be getting Target in Canada soon.

message 6382: by [deleted user] (new)

I love Target! It's a close to the old department stores as we get these days. Much nicer than Wally-World!

message 6383: by [deleted user] (new)

I just got back from Target, haha!

My best friend who lives in the States has sent the most adorable kids clothes from Target. I was amazed at how cute they were, nothing like the stuff from Walmart.

message 6385: by [deleted user] (new)

Target's clothes are a good deal. They last pretty well too. I also like their book section. The one at my Target is really big, and they have their own book club picks.

message 6386: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Target does have a pretty good book department, Christine, a decent selection and good prices. I ventured out earlier before it was raining as much as it is now and went to one of my favorite places, T.J. Maxx. I got some Justice and Puma items of clothing for my granddaughter who is 10 at great prices. I, also, found each of the granddaughters the cutest mermaid bath towel, blue with mermaid on it. And, I purchased 4 video, two a piece, to give them at Easter with the towels. I already have a couple of books for them. I got my daughter an Adidas t-shirt, too. I just never know what delightful items I will find at T.J.

message 6387: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay, I have to tell you guys what my cat is doing because it cracks me up. Sophie (my ragdoll cat...indoor) likes to wait by the back door when the dog goes out to do her thing. Then when Dixie comes in Sophie will follow Dixie over to the pet cabinet and wait for a treat when the dog gets her's. It's like she feels like she is a part of the process.
Well, today Sophie went to the door and rang the dog bell. Dixie was sleeping and had no interest in going out, but Sophie rang the bell and then went for her treat. It was so cute.

Cat are smart!

Maude | 479 comments Christine, I didn't know you had a cat - What a smart girl! Animals really can do remarkable things.

message 6390: by [deleted user] (new)

We just bought Just Dance 2 for the Wii. It's like DDR, except you hold the controller, rather than step on a pad. They also have Dance on Broadway, and Just Dance Kids. Holy crudmuffins! It's hard, but fun!

One dog, two cats, and a hamster (my daughter's, but I do all of the work).

My kids have that, but I have never tried it. It would be awesome if someone could get you dancing on video, Jeannette.

message 6396: by [deleted user] (new)

I am out of sorts lately. I can't seem to read anything that requires attention, I can't keep up my clever banter (haha), and I can't sleep. Help! Say something inspiring! :)

message 6397: by [deleted user] (new)

I was awake until 1:30 last night, after skimming to the end of my last book. I am currently in a funk, because I am trying to plan a trip to visit the in-laws in Germany, and I have never been able to make the FIL happy. Not very clever, but maybe it is comforting to know that you aren't suffering alone. *blah* What a long day. I'm tired.....

message 6398: by [deleted user] (new)

Uh oh....what is the FIL usually bothered about?

message 6399: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, let's see? Because we moved to the US in 1993? Because I actually have opinions about things? Because we only stay x-days instead of x+2-days? Because I have opinions about things? Did I already mention that one? He and I just have rubbed each other the wrong way for years. He sulks and I complain (somewhere out of his hearing range). My MIL is starting to agree with me more of the time. Just the usual.... *sigh*

message 6400: by [deleted user] (new)

Time to go nighty-night! If I don't I'll be up until 1am again. Cheer up, girlfriend! :)

This should make you laugh:
