Hello comfies! Sorry I've been away for a couple of days but it was a two party weekend! The original party was held on Sunday at the dance studio and we had a blast! Lots of running around, balloons, food etc. The dance teacher attempted to get the kids to do some dancing but it devolved into games.

Then yesterday (monday) which is now an official holiday here in Ontario called "family day" we headed over to my brother's house and had a family dinner party for my daughte and one of my brothers. My brother gave her a wii console! We didn't have time to set it up last night because we didn't arrive home until after midnight. My daughter is chomping at the bit to get it hooked up but I am too tired and electronically challenged to attempt deciphering the wires at the back of the tv/vcr/dvd player/cable box etc. If I attempted to add one more box I'm sure something would explode. Does anyone have kids who use the wii thing? I wouldn't mind some recommendations of fun, non-violent games for a five year old.

We have a Wii. I'll go look at what they have.

Thanks Christine!

We have a Wii, but we don't have a 5 year old. ;) I'll ask around, too.

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Sounds like a great time was had by all, Lee. Fantastic!

I can suggest the Cooking Mama game and Mario Kart for sure. My kids love those. They've always loved pretty much anything with Mario, but some of them have fighting (although it's not violent really). The Mario sports games are always good too.

There is a Club Penguin Wii game out now. My kids are too old for that, but they used to love love love anything Club Penguin, and that would definitely be non-violent. Amazon has one called Club Penguin Game Day.

One more idea...the Toy Story Wii game is a hoot! It's a copy off of the Disney World ride, and it's fun. It's called Toy Story Mania.

Manybooks Good luck connecting wires, Lee (I hate that sort of thing). You might check if things like "I spy" and other similar puzzle games are available on Wii.

I'm glad your daughter had a fun birthday weekend, but you must just be exhausted.

Thanks for all the suggestions Christine, I will check it out!

Kathy and Gundula, yes we had a great time and most important Maggie was thrilled with her parties! She's a very social little girl.

And yes, I'm a little tired but it was worth it.

I'm surveying the mess of new toys strewn across the living room floor right now and thinking I don't want to touch it. Heh, it's going to be a lazy day!

Sounded that way here in Colorado too!

My downstairs sounds like that in the winter, or whenever it is windy, don't mind so much during the day, but it can be a bit disconcerting at night.

message 6313: by John (new)

John So much for bragging about daffodils. This morning we have 10 - 15 cm of snow and it is still coming down. We look more like Toronto than Victoria. Time to go blow the dust off the snow shovel!

message 6314: by Maude (new)

Maude | 479 comments John, Same here in Idaho! But I think you got a little more than we have. I want sunshine!

message 6315: by [deleted user] (new)

Good morning (quite late, but I have been up since 5),
I have a stomach virus. I want these winter illnesses to stop it already, sheesh!
Lee, have you found any games yet? I'm curious.

message 6316: by [deleted user] (new)

Get better quick, Christine!

We had a dusting of snow on Monday, but are expecting a high in the 40s today! Winter's last gasp is coming soon, I hope.

You and your family need a holiday!! Get better soon, and drink lots of tea.

Thanks girls. :)
I had to go out to pick up some Xrays and I am already spent for the day. It's not even noon here, ugh.

That's your body telling you to take it easy for the rest of the day. You should listen to it :-)

Christine, I found the Club Penguin and the Cooking Mama game. Thanks, they have gone onto M's amazon wishlist. We played bowling, baseball, tennis and ping-pong last night. It was fun.

message 6321: by [deleted user] (new)

Same here Christine, even one of my dogs has been sick. I am really looking forward to spring this year and usually I don't due to pollen.

Good morning comfies you will have to excuse me but I am reading a book that doesn't seem to see any need for punctuation and it's beginning to rub off on me I think I may even be talking like this now I hope that everyone is having a great start to their day boy this is really annoying isn't it

message 6323: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey Christine Chrissie gave up on the stream of consciousness book last week so you are in fine company I myself would have to perform some sort violence against such a book as the one you are currently reading but I am just that kind of a person dont you think

message 6324: by [deleted user] (new)

Jeannette it doesn't help that the main character is supposed to be uneducated and uses slang and bad grammar and a few times I couldn't even figure out what was being said I am not sure if I am going to keep going on this book

message 6325: by [deleted user] (new)

And I believe it is the one that was translated from German and is wildly popular in Europe at least with the literati who find this style of writing to their taste but it leaves many of us feeling confused and wishing the author would have never been born yes

message 6326: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 24, 2011 07:33AM) (new)

And I think the character said that she found being sexually assaulted a sexy thing and I kind of can't stand her but I hate quitting books but if I stop now then I will have only wasted a very short time instead of quitting tomorrow what do you think

message 6327: by Maude (new)

Maude | 479 comments yes

message 6328: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay I marked it "did-not-finish" and I am moving on Hopefully my talking will return to normal soon now I have to pick another book Something with punctuation would be great

message 6329: by [deleted user] (new)

I still recommend Jane Eyre what do you think Maude? It has plenty of punctuation and the main character has got a spine and intelligence

message 6330: by [deleted user] (new)

Ha! I thought you were reading the German book that Chrissie just gave up on! How likely is it that you were both reading stream of consciousness books, but different ones? Pretty funny.

message 6331: by [deleted user] (new)

This one that I was reading had several reviews written in German so I assumed you knew what I meant. It has lots of rave reviews...I just don't get it. But I'll go back to the "every book isn't for every reader" thing.

message 6332: by [deleted user] (new)

Chrissie was reading Portrait of the Mother as a Young Woman and I thought I saw you add it. Her book is translated from the German; yours was written by a Brit.

Manybooks Jeannette wrote: "Chrissie was reading Portrait of the Mother as a Young Woman and I thought I saw you add it. Her book is translated from the German; yours was written by a Brit."

Stream of conscience is often nothing more than verbal ... (you know what I mean). In my humble opinion, it is generally so confusing and dense that understanding it, let alone analysing it, is often very difficult, if not impossible.

message 6334: by [deleted user] (new)

I've read the stream of conscience style at other times and enjoyed it, but part of the problem was that the character annoyed me. Therefore, I do not want to follow her every thought any more than I want to stick a fork in my eye.

message 6335: by [deleted user] (new)

lol

Because you generally only get the point of view of one character, if you despise that character, you are out of luck with stream of conscience writing.

Maude | 479 comments Christine, I agree with Jeannette - Jane Eyre is an inspired choice. I think you would really like it!

Good morning comfies! We're off to Panera's for breakfast. I hope they aren't sold out of those little eggy things! Hubby comes home tonight, so I'm thinking I better get a few things done today. lol

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Just back from a couple of days at my daughter's. Spent my birthday (yesterday) there and had delicious cake balls from the wonderful bakery near her. Loved being with the granddaughters, best present there could be. Well, I did get a cover with a light for my Kindle and a few books, too. Oh, and a plant and some money. Very nice, indeed.

Sorry to hear some of you are still having the snow problem. We just had rain. Hope your stomach is better, Christine. I had that a couple of weeks ago. Not fun.
