The wind blew these two little mounds of snow in through the gaps. They just looked cool.

Did your deer move on, Gundula?

They were not around this morning, but who knows, they might be back tonight. It's still snowing a bit (maybe I should ski down my driveway).

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Jeannette, you are taking the smart course of action and staying inside. Just stay safe. Gundula, that wind was sure howling here last night, too. Very eerie sounding indeed! We've been lucky, rain yesterday and bitter cold today, but only some snow flurries. I will have to check the forecast today, but last I heard, we were pretty much in the clear for any major stuff. I still have nightmares from the big ice storm two years ago. Just horrible! Christine, I saw the news on TV about Lakeshore Dr. in Chicago, too. Oh, and Jimmy Kimmel did a comedy sketch last night about the reporters in the snow. It made my heart jump, as I was not expecting what happened in it, looked real but I know it wasn't. Gundula, it must be a beautiful sight to see the deer outside your door. Jeannette, I will check your deer pics. I'm sure they're adorable.

Kathy, I'm glad you did not get hit with any major weather, but I would rather have snow in the winter than rain. And, freezing rain is the worst (I'm glad we did not get any of that). It's snowing right now, but not so windy anymore, the snow does look very nice, very peaceful, not a lot of cars about.

message 6105: by [deleted user] (new)

Just got word that my kids don't have school again tomorrow. My son is happy and my daughter is not....she was ready for this test and wanted to get it over with.

message 6106: by [deleted user] (new)

No fun to have a snow day with a test hanging over your head! Is it very cold where you are?

I have a guess, too, why they mentioned Ames on your newscast: the Iowa DOT is headquartered in Ames. They issue all of the road closings.

message 6107: by [deleted user] (new)

It's realllllly cold because the wind is intense. It's a bummer to have a snow day when it's too cold to go sledding.

message 6108: by [deleted user] (new)

It's 5 here today, without the wind. My husband was a block of ice when he finished shoveling.

message 6109: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks Brrr, you guys, that's really, really cold. Sounds like Manitoba.

message 6110: by [deleted user] (new)

That's where the wind blows from into Iowa! It is going down to -9F overnight.

Manybooks Jeannette wrote: "That's where the wind blows from into Iowa! It is going down to -9F overnight."

Remind me never to move to Winnipeg, although if I got a great job offer from the University of Manitoba, I might be tempted, winter chills notwithstanding.

message 6112: by [deleted user] (new)

Good morning everyone! It's a balmy 1 degree today, so I am staying inside to work on my taxes. *oh, joy!* I usually put this off until April, but this is my first year of also filling out the FAFSA. The college deadline for financial aid is March 1, so I have 6 weeks less time to procrastinate.

Have a great day! Hope everyone has power and is feeling well. :)

message 6113: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, now I feel gulity complaining about our 2 degrees. What was I thinking? Maybe I'll open the windows or do some gardening.

message 6114: by [deleted user] (new)

Sure make me feel like a whiner! :P

message 6115: by [deleted user] (new)

Hahaha!!!

message 6116: by [deleted user] (new)

I guess I'll have to wash windows now! Anything but do taxes....

message 6117: by [deleted user] (new)

We should tan! The sun is shining, why not?

message 6118: by [deleted user] (new)

Nah! I hate getting all sweaty.

message 6119: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks Christine wrote: "We should tan! The sun is shining, why not?"

Ha, ha, ha, you would likely not know what part of your skin is tanned and what part has frostbite. But seriously, some of my best tans (at least on my face) I got from skiing when it was cold and sunny. At university, we actually did go out and tan in bikinis and bathing suits when the temperature was about 23 F (-5 Celsius), we got great tans, but also really bad colds.

message 6120: by [deleted user] (new)

You were a wild woman, Gundula! I remember getting a sunburn in late October at a football game. It was a cool, fall day. We never realized how much sun we were getting.

Manybooks Jeannette wrote: "You were a wild woman, Gundula! I remember getting a sunburn in late October at a football game. It was a cool, fall day. We never realized how much sun we were getting."

It's very easy to get a sunburn when it's cool and sunny. And, for me, when it's too hot, I don't even like being in the sun that much, but cold and sunny or cool and sunny are much more dangerous for me.

message 6122: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Wow, you ladies are having some wicked weather. Brrrrrrr! Our high today is supposed to be 29, a heat wave compared to Christine and Jeannette. I agree with you about preferring snow to rain and freezing rain, Gundula. We were lucky in that we only got rain that one day, and not freezing rain. The sun is out today and so less gloomy. Yay!

message 6123: by [deleted user] (new)

The sun is shining here, too. So unlike Michigan, where I grew up, where so many February days were cloudy.

message 6124: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm off to watch a tiny person in diapers. Luckily they are next door so I don't have to brave the cold for more than about 92 seconds. :)

I sure hope that groundhog got it right this year.

message 6125: by [deleted user] (new)

Have fun! Be careful with your back.

message 6126: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks Jeannette wrote: "Have fun! Be careful with your back."

I second that, you don't want to put your back out again.

Good morning everyone! I'm just heading to bed on Friday, but Saturday is going to be busy. And, I wanted to beat Christine for once! Have a good one! :)

Adorable kitties!

Lee, Take what time you need when you need it. We're willing to be tortured by your absence. ;-)

Ha! Tortured by my absence, that's a good one Lisa!
I am sitting in my living room surrounded by stuff (mostly toys, dvds and books) right now. I feel like one of those hoarders without any control over the environment.

Ha! At least you have an excuse with a kid in the house. I do it all by myself with books.

We had fun today leaving some almonds in the shell outside on the deck for the squirrels. We watched them eat a few and then hide the rest all over the yard under the snow.

It was fun, my daughter made a little video with commentary and then the cat tried to get in on the action. The squirrels were much too smart and fast though!

It will be fun watching if the squirrels remember where they hid all the peanuts. Cool that your daughter is so tech-savvy ...

Good morning comfies! I had book group last night and we finally have our list for the year. I'm excited about the choices! The first one up is The Invisible Bridge. Anyway, it was a fun night of chatting and eating. We discussed Funny in Farsi: A Memoir of Growing Up Iranian in America a bit.

Today is Dixie's 3rd birthday. :) She just did her blog post (This is why I was late, she was using the computer and was taking forever. Sheesh!).

message 6145: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 08, 2011 07:49AM) (new)

Morning Christine! I hope you have a nice party planned for Dixie.

I like chatting and eating. And, sometimes, I read books. :)

It's -5 today, so I'm staying in. We went out to dinner last night to celebrate: DD was named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist! We're all pretty excited for her. :)

message 6146: by [deleted user] (new)

Yay! That's exciting news, Jeannette! You must be very proud of her!

message 6147: by [deleted user] (new)

I certainly am! :D She did good!

message 6148: by [deleted user] (new)

Is DD your daughter Jeanette? Congrats!

And Happy Birthday Dixie!

message 6149: by Maude (new)

Maude | 479 comments Christine, I hope you and your book club like The Invisible Bridge as much as I did. I have to go read Dixie's Blog now.

DD is text-speak (I'm guessing) for dear daughter! Thanks!
