Holy smokes! Glad you are okay! Is Sparty all right?

Poor kid, figured his dad would fix it for him.

Be careful. :)

message 5852: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks I'm glad you and Emma are fine, Christine. Sure hope your own insurance rates don't go up because of this.

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Oh boy, I knew there would be a lot of posts to catch up on, and I was right. I haven't read through all of them yet. My husband has been in again for 4 days, so I haven't had much chat time. First, Happy New Year to everyone! My husband and I babysat the granddaughters on New Year's Eve and spent the night at daughter's and son-in-law's house. Hubby fixed breakfast for all the next morning. We even took our dog, Abbie, with us. It was great! We spent the weekend watching all of season 1 of House. I gave the first 3 seasons to my husband for Christmas. He has me addicted to it now.

Christine, I'm so glad that you and Emma are okay. Wrecks are so scary and unsettling. Jeannette, thanks for thinking of me. I hope to be back as a regular for a while now. My husband won't be back in right away again.

message 5854: by [deleted user] (new)

Happy New Year, Kathy! Glad to hear you got to spend so much time with your husband and your lovely granddaughters! :)

message 5855: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Car crashes and pain. Ugh. Hope everybody is okay and that the rest of 2011 goes well.

I don't think your insurance will go up, Christine, because the other driver's insurance will be paying, not your insurance. Well, you'll have to pay any deductible, but your insurance won't care about that. :-(

message 5856: by [deleted user] (new)

I hit someone last year, but the only damage was to my car. My insurance didn't go up.

message 5857: by Maude (new)

Maude | 479 comments Christine, I am so sorry. I HATE care accidents. I have been in three bad ones, none of which were my fault. It is very good you are not injured. Take care.

Gundula wrote: "I'm glad you and Emma are fine, Christine. Sure hope your own insurance rates don't go up because of this."

I wasn't at fault in any way (we were completely stopped and he just ran into us) so since he is insured my rates shouldn't go up.

message 5859: by Maude (new)

Maude | 479 comments Jeannette, I HAD not been posting as often because I was sick - flu type of thing. Then my son and family were in California over Xmas and I was taking care of the Cat From Hell. He is an alpha male and he would get up on my chest and lay there and purr - he would also stare at me with those yellow eyes and head butt me if he wanted something. He didn't like to be petted and would try and bite me if I did. I never knew what he was going to do and he made me nervous. I was SO glad when he went home.

Sparty is fine. He isn't traumatized because he had that bag over his head.

I'm sorry to hear you were sick over Christmas, Maude, and glad to hear that the Cat from Hell went home! Cats love to mess with your mind.

How is the other grandma doing? Were they able to get her settled in somewhere?

I hope you are feeling better now.

Good -- he doesn't know what happened! Two crashes in two days would have been traumatic! ;P

message 5863: by [deleted user] (new)

Good morning,
I'm sore this morning, and kinda' scared for the drive to school. I'm such a baby. Here I go...

message 5864: by [deleted user] (new)

Be brave, kiddo! Are you in a loaner car?

message 5865: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 286 comments Christine hope the soreness goes away soon. Car accidents can be unsettling, hope your drive goes well. I always thought that if you were rearended it was their fault not yours. Especially if you were stopped.

message 5866: by [deleted user] (new)

Jeannette wrote: "Be brave, kiddo! Are you in a loaner car?"

Thanks, I feel so stupid being anxious like this. My car is drivable, the back is just squished up. Hopefully I can get it in today or tomorrow to get fixed, then I'll have a loaner. We are still waiting for the insurance to settle what they need to. Nobody is arguing about fault though, which is good for me.

message 5867: by [deleted user] (new)

It's hard to argue fault in this case. It's not likely that you backed into him! :P

message 5868: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Hey Christine, I wonder if the guy was texting? Of course, he probably wouldn't admit to it, but something had his attention other than driving (or stopping). Maude, glad you're feeling better. My husband had a cold over the weekend, too, can't believe I didn't catch it. I've been dodging quite a few sick bullets lately (knock on wood), and I'm keeping my fingers crossed (and my hands washed-lol).

message 5869: by [deleted user] (new)

Kathy wrote: "Hey Christine, I wonder if the guy was texting? ..."

Everyone keeps asking me that, even the cop. I have no idea. It took him a minute to get out after he hit us and his windows were tinted. His phone was right there handy to call his dad though.

message 5870: by [deleted user] (new)

Look out for those germs, Kathy, and apparently bed bugs. What's up with the bed bug thing? I just saw more news on that.

message 5871: by [deleted user] (new)

I bumped someone at a red light once, way before we had cell phones. He could have been fiddling with the radio, checking out a girl, putting out a smoke -- any number of "legal" distractions. Sometimes you just forget to look. Then, again, he could have been texting.

It's a legitimate question. I hate text messages, and texting and driving is akin to drinking and driving in my opinion. I remember reading an interview with some Edmonton teenager who was bragging that she could text, drink coffee, put on makeup and drive with perfect safety, yeah, right. Hope your soreness goes away soon.

Bed bugs, I read somewhere that they are a real problem in city hotels both in Canada and the United States. A few month ago, there was a story on the CBC about a bed-bug conference (on how to get rid of them), but the way the headline was written, it sounded like the bed bugs themselves were attending the conference, go figure (I laughed).

message 5874: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm back to exercising . I can finally walk normally on this toe so I did 45 minutes walk/jog on the treadmill today. Is anyone else doing a new exercise thing?

message 5875: by [deleted user] (new)

I did 40 minutes on Monday! I am in my workout duds right now, too. Glad your toe is better!

message 5876: by [deleted user] (new)

Yay, Jeannette! Are we tough power chicks or what? People will fear us!

message 5877: by [deleted user] (new)

I hope so! I know that I look pretty scary after my workout! lol

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Brenda wrote: "Does shoveling snow count as my exercise routine?"

I think the answer to that is yes. Don't people die of heart attacks every year from the exertion of that activity?

message 5880: by [deleted user] (new)

Brenda wrote: "Does shoveling snow count as my exercise routine?"

Yes, yes! It burns tons of calories. You are officially a power chick too.

I wish reading would burn as much calories as shoveling snow or exercising; I would be so so so skinny, sigh.

Ha! Some friends of mine can read on the treadmill but I'm not coordinated well enough to manage that.

message 5883: by [deleted user] (new)

It would have to be VERY large print.

I would end up with a very bruised face if I attempted to read while doing anything but sitting down.

message 5885: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Yikes, I'm way behind the exercise wagon here. I need to jump on and get going. I take the dog for a short walk in the mornings, but I need to do so much more. Kudos to you power chicks!

message 5888: by [deleted user] (new)

Good morning comfies,
I'm getting a slow start today. I forgot to tell you guys yesterday...my son didn't like how his hair was sticking up and took a pair of scissors to his head before I noticed. So he just got a fresh new, quite short, haircut from the barber to straighten that out. Yikes.

message 5889: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 286 comments Yikes is right. Does he like it now Christine?

message 5890: by [deleted user] (new)

I second your shout out, Christine! And, hey Christine, what's up with the cat? It's adorable, but where's Dixie? I luvs Dixie. Also, I think you are going to have to sneak a picture of the new haircut. LOL!

message 5893: by [deleted user] (new)

I need to stop entering what I am reading at goodreads until I actually start reading the book, even if I intend to read it that same day. I'm too flaky, I change my mind too much, I look like I have multiple personalities, maybe people think that I have a wacked out attention span...?

message 5898: by [deleted user] (new)

I have decided I am not going to enter a book until I am well into it, or in the case of my current book, know that I will finish it. I got tired of dropping books part of the way in, books that people were waiting for my opinion of! It got to be embarrassing.

I think I am the queen of procrastination and flakiness. I have about 25 books, I think, I am "currently reading" some of these I have been reading since September and some books I have actually read and finished I have not entered into the database yet, oh well (I sometimes wonder how I managed to finish my degree and write a dissertation, oh, yeah, deadlines, and using the "Outlander" series and other historical fluff (in a good way) to keep me (in)sane).
