Glad you are home safely! You need to rest to fight a sore throat. :)

Eeek and right before Christmas too!

message 5707: by [deleted user] (new)

I know. Crossing my fingers that it is a 24 hour thing and that if we all get it that it happens right away.

What a pain, hope you all recover soon (I suggest drinking some chamomile tea, very soothing for both the throat and the stomach).

message 5709: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Ugh, the worst kind of sick. Better now than actual Christmas though. Hope you're all well by then, Christine!

message 5710: by Maude (new)

Maude | 479 comments Get well soon, Christine and have a very Merry Xmas with your children and husband!

message 5711: by [deleted user] (new)

I hope you are all feeling better soon, Christine!

You doing all right with the cat, Maude?

message 5712: by [deleted user] (new)

Good morning from The Bluemond House of Germs. (Tours of The House of Germs begin in one hour. Please see your guide for your mask. Today's schedule of events includes a Lysol spraying contest and our famous Kleenex basket throwing competition.)

How is everyone else today?

message 5713: by [deleted user] (new)

Curious...has anyone ever gotten a gift that was intentionally bad from a family member? I suspected such when my sister gave her gifts out last Saturday, but as I unpack things I am becoming sure that she was annoyed with me when she shopped. I am choosing to see the humor in it though. She gave me a very tight fitting shirt (extra small sized I just saw) and I recently told her that I am concerned about my weight.

message 5714: by Maude (new)

Maude | 479 comments Oh, Christine, that is so funny altho I agree it was done with possible malice. It is the way you say things that make me laugh! I am glad you are home and getting better.

message 5715: by Maude (new)

Maude | 479 comments Jeanette, I think the cat is psychotic. He is also extremely fond of me. He will get on my chest and lay their for hours while I am reading. He follows me around. He sleeps on my bed. Wherever I go, he goes. And every now and then he will look at me and try and bite me! He doesn't actually bite me but opens his mouth and encases whatever part of my body is there with his teeth. I don't understand this behavior at all.

message 5716: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Oh, Christine, I'm so sorry that you are going through having a sick household right now. So hoping that you all will be well by Christmas.

I've never received a bad-intentioned gift, Christine, but a friend of mine has. In fact, she said her sister-in-law only gives her something that she knows she doesn't want or like or, in one case, was allergic to. Geesh, what's wrong with people?

Maude wrote: "Jeanette, I think the cat is psychotic. He is also extremely fond of me. He will get on my chest and lay their for hours while I am reading. He follows me around. He sleeps on my bed. Wherever..."

I read somewhere that dogs are people-oriented, and cats are territory-oriented, and therefore, don't handle moves as well. He just wants to be sure you are sticking around to protect him, and keep him warm, I guess. Some cats nip -- at least he's not breaking the skin. In my opinion all cats are at a minimum neurotic; your guest sounds pretty tame!

message 5718: by [deleted user] (new)

My friend's mother-in-law used to give her a sausage snack tray every year from Hickory Farms knowing that she's a vegetarian.

message 5719: by [deleted user] (new)

Your sister is just wanting you to go for the sexy look, Christine. ;) My MIL was always giving me stuff that was too large, like she thought I was Jumbo the elephant.

message 5720: by [deleted user] (new)

I think she was mad because she had called me prior to shopping to TELL me to get her a certain gift card. I had already shopped, and she was really irritated because of it. (can't you just hear the lovely holiday music when I tell you about my family?)

Manybooks Maude wrote: "Jeanette, I think the cat is psychotic. He is also extremely fond of me. He will get on my chest and lay their for hours while I am reading. He follows me around. He sleeps on my bed. Wherever..."

Maybe he is trying to give you a big hug when he encases you in his mouth, I think the fact that he does not bite means that this is a way of showing affection (or ownership).

Christine, too funny (and it would be even funnier if dressed Dixie in the outfit and sent a picture of it to your sister). I used to hate getting gifts of clothing from my German relatives, they never fit and did not suit me at all (my mother actually ended up wearing many of them); finally they got the message that I would much rather have books.

message 5722: by [deleted user] (new)

Here's the solution Christine: Next year mail the gift cards and stay home.

message 5723: by [deleted user] (new)

Gundula, too funny! I should put that on Dixie!

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) Christine, it seems like so many families have gotten sick this week. I hope everyone recovers in time for Christmas!

message 5729: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Jess! How is school? Are you on break now? Have a great Christmas!

Hi Jess! Thanks for the well wishes. How are you?

message 5731: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey! I didn't post my post!! (I hate when I do that!) Glad to see you are better Germ-girl! Is everybody okay at your house?

message 5732: by [deleted user] (new)

Emma is still pretty sick, but again she sleeps so I will know better after she gets up. BJ and I are improving. :)
If you want to get in on the House of Germ tours, you should probably hurry. Our gift shop is having a sale.

message 5733: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 286 comments Christine at least you take your sicknesses with a side of humor:)

message 5734: by [deleted user] (new)

The perfect gift for your SIL, hand-picked from the House of Germs! :p

message 5735: by [deleted user] (new)

You are too funny, Jeannette!

message 5736: by [deleted user] (new)

Cue the Christmas music for a great info-mercial. :)

message 5737: by Jessika (new)

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) Jeanette--School is going well. I'm home for winter break, thankfully! Only one semester left! I hope you're having a good holiday season.

Christine--I'm doing pretty well, just trying to make it through the Christmas madness. Thankfully no one in our house is sick, but with my little brother coming home from school today and with my mom in and out of the hospital for doctor's appointments, I hope no germs make their way into our house!

Oh my goodness Christine! The whole family is down with this thing? Are you any better?

Manybooks Christine wrote: "Oh my...good morning? The stomach thing has spread to papa bear. The other baby bear and I are doomed."

How horrible, Christine!! Drink lots of herbal tea (actually, flat ginger ale (or coke) and plain crackers also work wonders). This is really Murphy's Law in action. I still hope you all can beat this before Christmas, just take it easy and don't do too much.

message 5740: by [deleted user] (new)

Lee wrote: "Oh my goodness Christine! The whole family is down with this thing? Are you any better?"

Benjamin and I have only had cold-like symptoms, we haven't yet gotten the stomach thing...so I am nervous that it will hit me soon. I just hope it doesn't hit Benj on Christmas.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Christine wrote: "Oh my...good morning? The stomach thing has spread to papa bear. The other baby bear and I are doomed....I just hope it doesn't hit Benj on Christmas. "

I hope that it's gone for all of you by Christmas!

message 5742: by [deleted user] (new)

It's not looking good, Lisa. We'll see, but I am trying to get things in the house done so that if I end up with it then they can all have it easier. My MIL wants me to bake for Christmas...really? I don't think so.

message 5744: by [deleted user] (new)

She does indeed. That doesn't make sense, right? It's not just me, right?

message 5745: by [deleted user] (new)

Christine wrote: "She does indeed. That doesn't make sense, right? It's not just me, right?"

That doesn't surprise me. You are still upright, aren't you?

Just don't let your husband breathe on you or Benjamin. Hand washing!! I hate when these things run through an entire family, and at Christmas.

message 5746: by [deleted user] (new)

I have been handwashing/disinfecting/laundering like a crazy woman. So far I am still upright, but I am concerned that tomorrow is Christmas Eve.

Well put, Kathy! :)

Get better Christine!
