I'm glad you're keeping warm, Maude. And, I'm sorry to hear about the California grandma. Wow, strokes are so devastating, and to be so far away makes it even harder. I hope she'll be all right. Are you and the kids able to do some Christmasy things together?

Hey! Where's my invitation?! ;-) My favorite kind of cookies too.

Yum! I love spruce trees; they do smell great. It's wonderful that you'll have several weeks to enjoy it!
I had my face-to-face last night. Nobody liked the book, haha! So instead of talking about it we just ate and chatted. It was a great time. Next we are reading Outlander. I have no idea what this is about...anyone??
I'm off to babysit. Chat with you later!

Well, I loved "Outlander" but you have to like historical time travel novels with quite a bit of action (many types of action, including sexual). It is what I would call a wonderful "romp" but don't expect a novel of great philosophical significance, it is pure and wonderful escapeism. For me, this novel has wonderful memories (and I'm actually very thankful for it). When I was finishing my PhD dissertation and suffering from boredom and extreme writer's block, reading and discovering the first three "Outlander" novels saved my sanity and cured my writer's block.
I just got a spam email in my inbox. Someone wants to make "a love connection" with me. Just a reminder: there is a button to flag a message like this. That way the appropriate people see it right away. I also blocked the user, but I probably did it in a more roundabout way than I needed to.

They just joined in December. Oddly enough, this person has two followers.
I am glad that I keep my last name and email address set to friends only. Don't want to turn off messaging.

That's disgusting, thanks for the heads up, yuck.

Okay, thanks Kathy and Gundula! I am probably going to start that next because our meeting comes quicker this time. I got my copy yesterday.
Off to babysit! Have a great Thursday!

Oh, get this...my son comes home from school yesterday telling me that he has "an issue with China". He would not elaborate, but wanted it to be clear that he now has a problem with China as a whole. Okay. I found out later that they told him in social studies class that they eat dogs in China. So does this mean that Chinese take-out is no longer an option? Sheesh!
That's why my FIL won't eat Chinese take-out! No lie!
More Christmas prep for me today; I finally feel up to it.
Have a good one!

Off to babysit again...I miss chatting with you girls. I hope that Jeannette's pink eye is better by now. I finished A Secret Kept, which started so strong but ended up being a big disappointment for me. I'm off to trade that one.
Have a good morning!

Have a good day babysitting, Christine.
I am at about 95% Christine, and my eyes are pretty much normal now. Thanks for asking! :) I enjoyed the picture of your book club meeting.
Good morning, Gundula! Hello to all of our truant comfies, too! What are you up to, Kathy?
How's the other grandma doing, Maude? I hope you are keeping warm.
Well, the weather here is going to be screwy: high today around 40, with the high on Sunday around 9. That can only mean freezing rain, my winter bane! Guess I'll get out for shopping today. :)

Good morning, Jeannette and everyone else. Glad your eye is better Jeannette, I think it's just starting to snow, so I better get my errands done sooner rather than later.

Can't they take the cat and leave the boys? No, I guess not. ;) I hope things go well for them. It's a big decision.

Freezing rain is coming this way for tomorrow. We're supposed to be going out for a nice dinner, without the girl. I'll keep you posted.
I think Christine might have posted to her book blog.
Lee's watching a movie right now and dreaming of caramels. ;)
Have fun with you friends, Kathy! :)

Hi Girls,
I just watched Becoming Jane with Anne Hathaway. It was okay. And right after I watched The Bourne Ultimatum for a distinct change of pace. The weather here is going to do something because my face and head are killing me. I hope you all have a great weekend.

Your head acts as a barometer? Poor Lee! Big system moving through -- it's just starting to snow here.
Stay warm today everyone! Get better quick Lee!

I just hope we don't get as much snow as London, Ontario did, but freezing rain would be even worse. I tend to feel changes in the weather as well, more my neck and my fingers. But, I'm originally from Calgary, and nothing can produce a migraine and/or other major aches and pains like the Chinook (a temperature change from app. -15 Celsius or lower to +20 Celsius in less than two hours at times, combined with high winds, really rattles the body).
Feel better, Lee! We have the rain/ice/snow thing moving in here too, Jeannette.
Kathy, I posted the bookclub thing to my book blog. Here's the link...

Dixie and Benjamin are out playing in the slush before the rain gets here. Yuck! But they are having fun. I HAVE to wrap the rest of my gifts today because I am traveling to see my mom next weekend, and there is too much to do this week. Also, my house is a wreck because I've been at my neighbor's all week with the baby. I. Am. Overwhelmed.
Thanks girls, the human barometer is finally pain free after 24 hours of hell. That must have been some system that moved through. I made coffee cake to celebrate and just finished writing a few Christmas cards.
Christine, is your babysitting gig over?

I am so glad you feel better, Lee! We are in the middle of high winds. We went out to dinner, not far from home, but it was a real "adventure" getting home. The winds crossing the corn fields create white-out conditions, like really thick fog. Fortunately, there are buildings along the way to break things up. We did have a nice dinner.
That sounds scary Jeannette! Was your dinner really yummy? I would hibernate the entire winter and never enter a car if it were possible. The occasional walk in the snow would suit me fine.
I told my hubby I won't be going anywhere until March.
Dinner was pretty yummy, but the perfect little chocolate eclair for dessert pushed it over the top!

I'm glad that you are feeling better, Lee. My babysitting gig is on hold because the mom will now have time off for the holidays. I have a lot of days scheduled for January already though. I feel so lucky to have that lined up since I haven't had luck finding another job so far. Plus I totally adore that baby. :)
She's 9 months now. It's so fun watching a baby again.
I don't think I've ever had an eclair.

The weather outside is frightful. My poor puppy almost blew right away when she went out back. How is it in Iowa, Jeannette?
The wind howled all night, blowing snow around. I guess it was a blizzard, but there wasn't much accumulation. Now the sun is shining, and we get the occasional gust, but it seems to have moved on. It is zero out now. It was 45 on Friday.
You need to have an eclair some time, Christine. Even the frozen Sarah Lee kind should be good.
Snow definitely makes the Christmas lights prettier. :)

I found it, Christine. Thanks! Looks like a great group. I am wanting to belong to a group like that. It might be a goal of mine this next year to bring some people together for one. How often do you all meet?

Kathy, I think you would be so much fun to be in a book club with. You should go for it and start one. I wish you lived near me and we could do it together.
Kathy,
I started the book club myself. I never thought it would take off. I just decided to give it a shot, and I invited 6 people that I knew (they didn't know each other, and one of my girlfriends invited someone I didn't know). Of the original 8, we only had one drop out. I expected to lose more people and honestly figured that it wouldn't work. We meet about every 6-7 weeks to reduce the pressure of getting a book done every month. It's been so much fun! We rotate houses, and the hostess chooses the book for that meeting...so we don't vote on books like a lot of groups. I would just give it a try if you can think of six or seven people. Seven has been a nice size. With the 6-7 weeks and the one meeting out at the restaurant, it ends up that you only host about one time a year.

I am on a mission to get an eclair.

I hope you find one, the best are the ones filled with custard or real whipped cream (in my opinion).

Lee, you are too sweet. I would love to be in a book club with you, too. I wish all of us in this chat lived close so that we could enjoy our book love together.
Kathy....help me with my Outlander issue (in the what are you reading thread).....help!
