Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments 2 weeks. My parents both got their Ph.Ds there. And then we moved back to North Carolina.

I don't remember Iowa at all, obviously!

message 5152: by [deleted user] (new)

How funny! My daughter was born in Mississippi, and we moved to Iowa when she was just over one year. She considers Iowa home. I hope you enjoyed the game.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments Oh, we enjoyed the game very much! (The Clemson game - "not so much.")

message 5154: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't really follow college football, any more, but Christine has gotten me back into it. It's fun to have a friendly rivalry.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments Yup. The big one down here is Clemson Tigers - USC Gamecocks.

We watched "How to Train Your Dragon" last night. Very good story, great voice cast, fun family film, with enough intelligence for adults. :)

I ordered that from the library this weekend, but I am about number 500 in line, so obviously, it will take a while before I get to watch it, bummer.

Happy Halloween Everyone! My daughter only lasted about 15 minutes trick or treating before she got too cold and came home. We have tons of leftover candy eeeeeek!

Happy Halloween, Everybody!

Good Morning everyone! I hope you all enjoyed Halloween and got the kind of candy you like! I have to get rid of the stuff now! I don't like to extend Halloween into the first week of November.

Now it's time, at least in the US, to gear up for Thanksgiving, and then Christmas. I saw the first Christmas trees in store windows last week already. It gets earlier and earlier around her. hohoho!

Iowa 16, MSU 14 (how the mighty tumble....)

message 5161: by [deleted user] (new)

Good morning everyone! I am posting a few Halloween photos.

message 5162: by [deleted user] (new)

Great costumes! Dixie didn't look too excited!

message 5163: by [deleted user] (new)

We tried to put some scary braids in Dixie's hair (black yarn), but she kept pulling them out. Emma doesn't know what she was, but everyone thought she was a fly.

message 5164: by [deleted user] (new)

She was a witch, up until she put on the glasses, I suppose. I can see the fly, definitely! Did they get a good haul?

message 5165: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, I'm off to hit the treadmill. I'm starting my New Year's resolution early this year....

Jeannette wrote: "Well, I'm off to hit the treadmill. I'm starting my New Year's resolution early this year...."

Go get 'em! Be careful if you are listening to music. Those dance moves can bite you on the treadmill.

message 5167: by [deleted user] (new)

Jeannette wrote: "She was a witch, up until she put on the glasses, I suppose. I can see the fly, definitely! Did they get a good haul?"

I kept asking her if she wanted to go the way of the witch and she said no. She wanted to confuse people and see what they guessed she was. She also carried a turtle (not a real one) to add more confusion.

Thanks, Joy! How nice to hear that, again. :)

Good morning lovely comfies. I'm going to vent for a moment so hold on to your hats.
I am so mad! One of my many holds from the library arrived and it was disgusting but I didn't notice until I had it home for about a week because of the huge pile of books it came with. It was saturated in dried vomit. You couldn't tell by looking at it, it just looked like water damage but of course I caught a whiff of it and there was no mistaking that smell. My husband took it back to the library before I could leave a note with the book and they have charged me $17 for the damage to the book!!! I could kill someone. I am so grossed out and angry. I just wrote an email to the branch manager where it was returned explaining what happened and requesting that they remove the fine from my account. We'll see if it happens. thanks for listening! Grrrrrr!

message 5171: by [deleted user] (new)

You may have to go in person to plea your case. Get to know your librarians so they realize that you would never do such a thing. Yuck!

message 5172: by Lee, Mod Mama (new)

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
I know! And I've only been a patron here for 3 weeks so I don't know the librarians at all yet. I feel quite powerless at the moment.

message 5173: by [deleted user] (new)

If the email doesn't work, make a personal appeal. How could they not like you?

message 5174: by Lee, Mod Mama (new)

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
Awww, you're sweet. I might be more likeable when I cool down a little.

message 5175: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes. Don't go in angry. ;)

message 5176: by Maude (new)

Maude | 479 comments Lee, sticking my two cents in, memorize this.

This book was in this condition when I received it. It should have never been allowed to be checked out. I thought at first it was water damage until I smelled it. I am not responsible for this and I will not pay for something which was done prior to my receiving this book. (Repeat as necessary - keep your cool and wear them down!)

message 5177: by Maude (new)

Maude | 479 comments Lee, I do agree with Jeannette, tho. Don't act angry just a righteous determination to set the facts straight. Use humor if you can find any in this situation.

message 5178: by [deleted user] (new)

Remember, too, that you are at a disadvantage by having dropped it off without telling anyone about the condition it was in. It is human nature to believe the worst of anonymous "miscreants." So, plead your case politely, with humor as Maude says, so they believe the person standing there in front of them.

I do wonder how it got checked in the last time without being flagged?

Lee wrote: "Good morning lovely comfies. I'm going to vent for a moment so hold on to your hats.

Lee, OMG! That is disgusting. I wouldn't email, I would head down there now. Since your husband is the one who dropped it off you can explain that as your reason for dropping it off without discussing the condition (blaming men always works). As for the book, I am shocked that they ever checked it out to you. I hope it is resolved quickly. I agree with Jeannette...if they talk to you face to face then they'll believe you.

message 5180: by Lee, Mod Mama (new)

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
Thanks for all the advice! I love it. I will go but can't get there until tomorrow so fingers crossed and I'll let you all know how it goes. I can't imagine how no-one noticed when it got checked in and transferred to my branch and someone had to wrap it in the paper and elastic for the hold shelf etc. I hope they believe me because I certainly wouldn't let a book stew in barf, dry it off and then dump it at the library.

message 5181: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Lee, First of all, that's disgusting and that book should have been removed from circulation. Ugh. And, they have to take off that fine! My library is reasonable about such things; I hope your new library is too. I've never had a problem but I've had friends who've had undeserved fines removed. I hope they do the right thing and don't leave you with a sour taste for this library. Best wishes! Please let us know what happens!

message 5182: by [deleted user] (new)

I had an interesting experience this evening. I went out with another mom & the three girls for pizza. While we were waiting for our order a family group came in, maybe 12 people. It was our US Congressman; I recognized him from various campaign ads. He said he was just out with his family for dinner. He's been in office a long time, so I guess he's used to the election day waiting.

That's disgusting. By the way, I think the best way to deal with the undeserved fine (if it is not removed) is to threaten to go to the media; libraries don't like bad publicity. You might even consider contacting your local council-person or MLA.

Wow, that's crazy! I have been watching election coverage all evening....maybe I will see you in the background eating pizza.

Lisa wrote: "Lee, First of all, that's disgusting...."

So so disgusting. I'm still grossed out and I read this hours ago.

Christine wrote: "Wow, that's crazy! I have been watching election coverage all evening....maybe I will see you in the background eating pizza."

lol! I don't know if anyone else even recognized the guy! He is quite good looking and he has lovely grandchildren. I didn't tell him I voted for the other party! He will win anyway. He's been in office forever and he's a pretty straight guy. Not too many shakeups in Iowa. Governor's race should be interesting.

message 5187: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, Illinois will likely pick who ever has the greatest tendency to end up in jail...as usual.

message 5188: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, you guys are famous for that, aren't you? ;)

message 5189: by [deleted user] (new)

Very much so...sheesh! I didn't even realize that one of our guys (not someone I voted for) has family members with mob ties. Of course!

message 5190: by Maude (new)

Maude | 479 comments Christine, I didn't know you lived in Illinois! My home town. And as an aside, my father used to run bootleg liquor for Al Capone so he fits right in! He never went to jail tho, because he was VERY quick to stay a few steps ahead of the law.

Hey, hey everyone! The librarian wrote me back and was very nice. She removed the fine from my account! Yay! I'm so relieved. It's terrible to feel unjustly accused of barfing on a book and sneaking it back into the library. It made me realize what a basket case I would be if I were unjustly accused of something more serious.

message 5192: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Lee, Great news (though still disgusting that you had that book at home!) and now you can feel better about your new library too. Librarians do tend to be a reasonable bunch, and most seem to believe the library's patrons. Thank goodness.

Thank goodness is right!

I'm combing through my cookbooks right now looking for yummy things to make for Vegan Mofo! I'm very excited about cooking and blogging for this special month. I don't know if I will be able to do it every day but I'm gonna try my darndest. All I have in my fridge right now is a big head of cauliflower which is not the most inspiring thing to me. I might do an Indian dish.

I need to check your blog, I haven't taken the time to read my favorite blogs lately, and I miss that. Your stuff always looks sooooo good!

Very glad to hear about the library! Yes, false barfing accusations are never good, haha! Really though, I am glad that they believed you.

message 5196: by [deleted user] (new)

Hooray, Lee! Now, get over there and get to know your librarians. They are good people to know!

I wondered about the new header on your blog. Like I said over there, I wish I could send you all this winter squash I have!

message 5197: by [deleted user] (new)

Somebody please kick me off the internet and tell me to get things done.

message 5198: by [deleted user] (new)

Get off the Internet! I just got back on, but I really need to do my Japanese assignment!!!

message 5200: by [deleted user] (new)
