message 162: by NotQuiteAllHere (new)

NotQuiteAllHere I have a random question... and I like to get opinions... what is with the zombie craze?
I personally don't understand it. I think they are the lamest monsters out there. Every once in a blue moon there will be an interesting twist to the whole thing but for the most part it is same over and over again.
Any thoughts?

I love zombies. Can't tell you why, I just do. In fact, I'm probably the only human being on the planet that is eagerly awaiting a zombie apocalypse. My dream life is to be like Juliet Starling in Lollipop Chainsaw XD No... but for real... that'd be amazing! I'd be so happy if I could go around sawing zombies in half with my chain saw *sigh*

I once heard a commentary on the zombie craze stating that the popularity of it is a critique on societal conformity. It was an interesting take on fad. It is a tough sell as most of the people I have asked on the subject don't seem to draw that correlation.

message 165: by NotQuiteAllHere (new)

NotQuiteAllHere Queen Diva- I live in a small town with a bunch of hicks.... I am surrounded by actually people who have plans in place for the zombie apocalypse (sadly a lot of them are my good friends). They are all waiting eagerly for it to happen. I am the anomaly here. They always ask me "But what if it actually happens Ami?" and I always answer "Then I will be bitten early become the queen of the zombies and destroy you all!"
Starbubbles- That is actually an interesting thought but I don't think really accurate. If you look back there has always be a "moster" that had been more popular then the others. Before zombies it was vampires, then witches, then werewolves, then aliens going back to the 50s ish. But I think zombies are good example of how conformable are really dull ;)

I can't contend a zombies popularity. Out of all the monsters, it's the most badass. It's undead and is in some ways nearly unstoppable. And despite how zombies are slow and stupid, they're really pretty bad ass because they can cause so much damage so quickly. Unlike other monsters, zombies really don't have a weakness, which makes it harder to beat them. I think the draw of zombies is that they are actually really scary because they are hard to defeat and their masses amount so quickly that we'd easily be outdone almost instantly.

Now, unlike your town Ami, I don't actually believe a zombie apocalypse could happen *sniff, tear*, much to my dismay. I will also say that zombie inspired things (movies, video games, books, tv shows, etc.), just like with any monster craze, doesn't mean it's automatically good just cuz it has to do with zombies. A lot of time people completely miss the mark. I just read a horribly awful zombie novel a couple weeks ago. It was so, so, so stupid. But then there are some things, like in the case of Lollipop Chainsaw ;), where they are done to perfection.

But, I do honestly think part of the lure of zombies is that they are the most believable and horrifying of all monsters. They are more likely to exist more than any other monster and if they did, we would be nearly powerless to stop it. People like being scared, and that can be a pretty scary thought!

message 167: by NotQuiteAllHere (new)

NotQuiteAllHere See I don't think they are scary in the least. I will give you that the mob does have its strengths but it bothers me that there isn't a goal or end game. Most (not saying all) zombies stories and plots follow the same line... survival. What's the point of beong near unstoppable if in the end you mindlessly eat through your food sourse then rot away? I do like some zombies stories like the movie Shawn of the Dead (cause it is super funny and I love Simon Pegg) and the book The Girl with All the Gifts (cause it was unique in its "disease" and ending) but they still had the ultimate goal of either annihilation of the zombies or annihilation of the humans. Now if someone was to take my queen of the zombies idea and use the hordes of mindless slaves for world domination that is something I could get behind hehehe

Also I am well aware that I am surrounded by crazy people. I live in the town with the most Big Foot sightings in the state of Colorado and good friends of mine own The Sasquatch Outpost (no joke) but i love them anyway

k.c.(Kthinker) | 83 comments the possibility of zombies is actually surprisingly high because they are basically humans who's organs have stopped working but the only thing actually driving them physically is electricity which is all the muscles need to move now saying this we also have to look at the fact of decay once the body reaches a certain point of decay it can no longer operate and science has proven that after three days the muscles have decayed to the point of complete immobility

now there is a second possibility robot zombies where the corpse is fused with a robot as seen in the finally of the last season of "Doctor who" of course then again in that scenario the peoples brains were down loaded into a data bank which had apparently lasted for all of human history

there are many ways that zombies could become real heck it doesn't even have to start with a dead person as it has been mentioned before disease

now on our survival in that case we would easily beat them because we are much smarter then they are, brain over brawn, plus I doubt a zombie knows how to use a tank

message 170: by Nathaniel (new)

Nathaniel | 87 comments Not a big fan of zombies... I saw one clip from Highschool of the Dead... and EEK. just EEK...

message 171: by Ebony (new)

Ebony Aw man I loved high school of the dead! It was gross but it was fun. It's also totally rational to believe that once the zombie apocalypse starts, all survivors will be highly trained supermodels

Ebony, I wish I could like that comment ;)

I also loved HSotD! The anime isn't nearly as obnoxious as the manga is with the over sexualization of the girls (oh Japan) but I enjoyed it!

message 173: by Ebony (new)

Ebony Oh Japan indeed. Japan made me so paranoid that every time I tell my brother I love him, I must follow up with no oreimo. (Shudders)

message 176: by Miss Ryoko, Supreme Overlord ;) (new)

Miss Ryoko (missryoko) | 472 comments Mod
Lol none. I'm not easily affected by many things. I could tell you what anime scarred me mentally as in it was so awful I can't believe I wasted my precious time watching it and wish to this day I could go back in time slap myself silly and then tell myself to do something better... and that anime would be Trinity Blood. Ugh. Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh.

message 177: by Ebony (new)

Ebony (Hisssss) Oh... I remember that one too. The first one that scarred me was Boku no pico. (Cringes at the memory)

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! I just Wikipedia'd it and now I kinda want to watch it based off this episode description: Pico and Chico meet a pretty, feminine-looking runaway named Coco who lives in a hideout underneath the subway. Pico slowly begins to fall in love with Coco, causing him to question his feelings for Chico. The situation becomes exacerbated when Pico catches Coco and Chico having relations one night. Eventually, they reconcile, having a threesome atop Tokyo Tower.

Oh man, I'm too immature for my own good ;-p

I am dying to know how the PC game turned out and what one does to play it!
