Hi Cheryl! It sounds like you and I are on the same wavelength. I have gotten a lot of good suggestions here. Check out the bookshelves and the threads about your favorite kinds of reading.

Welcome to the group, Cheryl. We're glad that you've joined us.You'll find that we have an eclectic mix of comfort reads but everybody seems to find books that qualify for them.
I did notice a divergence of definitions - lots of books here *I* would not qualify as comforting - and yet I feel comfortable here and happily anticipatory of finding new books - tx all!

That's what's so nice about this group: You can fit right in, all comfy-like, without having to read the same books as everyone else. I like that aspect of the group very much. :)

Hello, I am fairly new to goodreads, but love the platform. I love books the invoke thought. As a personal trainer I am always exercising the body and try to also consciously exercise the mind. Goodreads helps keep me accountable in doing so. I am currently reading, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." I love it! I have already seen the movie and as always the book is better, but grateful I watched the movie first, because with this book and so many characters, the movie has helped me keep the characters straight.I am looking for lots of friends on here, that can recommend great books, and I LOVE discussing books. Doesn't matter to me if you share my opinion, in fact, not always sharing the same opinion makes things more interesting.
Hi, Cherry. Welcome to the group!I recently finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and I loved it. But, for the first 40 pages I had no idea what was going on and then for quite a while throughout the book, I had to refer to the family tree and the family list in order to keep things straight.
Watching the movie first has helped me keep things straight as far as who is who of the important characters. Having said that though, the book is definitely better and gives details that now make sense whereas they did not in the movie. The book itself I think is a refreshingly unique. I can't say I have read a hundred books similar with only slight differences (i.e. and no offense he is a great author, but Nicholas Sparks...the books start becoming the same, can't really read them back to back) This book is refreshingly different. Lays out a unique story not told before.
She shows strength despite the surroundings that are against her. She shows that sometimes it is better to not show how smart you are, and shows that we should never judge someone's intelligence based on the way they chose to live their life or the way they dress. I love the character.
Join us on the chit chat threads if you feel like it. This is a very friendly group.
Okay, learning my way around on this site, so may take me a moment to figure where that is, may have to stop by a 7-11 and get a map.

scroll down and you'll see a bunch of folders with threads. The third folder down is the Chit Chat folder. There are many threads there and any member is free to add new threads. At the top of each folder is a link to see all; if you click that, all the discussion threads in that folder will show on the page.
Hi Cherry,
Welcome to the group! I'm a fan of the Lisbeth Salander books too. In fact I enjoyed the second and third in the trilogy more than the first.

Hey all! I'm new to the group & don't think I've introduced myself yet. I'm an avid reader and looking forward to retirement so I can spend more time with the grandkids & reading, of course! I love mysteries & history most, but will read anything if a good story. Who doesn't love a comfort read? I especially like one after a long, involved non-fiction read or listen.
Hey Martha. I think I said hi to you in another thread, but thanks for officially introducing yourself. You will fit in perfectly in this group. I hope you enjoy the group, and Goodreads.
Thanks, Lisa ... yes, I've probably posted on another thread. I do so enjoy reading them & just have to add my 2 cents occasionally. I've been on Goodreads for 2 yrs now, but just quietly adding my books. Finally, decided to explore groups & am so glad I did!!

Hi Martha, I'm sure I saw you somewhere else today too! Welcome, it's nice to be able to talk about what we're reading sometimes. Reading used to be such a solitary pleasure for me but now everything's changed!
Hi! I'm Amy; ran across this group while adding some books to my shelves :) I think my all-time favorite comfort books are The Thin Woman, Christy, Jane Eyre, Mary Stewart's Thornyhold, and Shopaholic series books! Looking forward to seeing everyone else's favs and getting some ideas!
Hi everyone! I'm Alex I'm originally from the Philippines but working in Hong Kong. I've always loved books but never had the time to really get into reading one after the other until now (thanks to the new job xD).So I'm here to hear more about Comfort Reads, cause after all those action packed/complex novels, sometimes you want to curl up with something that will make you feel good :D
Hey Alex, we're glad to have you. We have loads of great suggestions for comfort reads here. There's something for everyone.

I was doing some research on Lucy Maud Montgomery and stumbled on the Kindred Spirits Group; I'm so glad I joined, I've read so many books in the past few months I've never even been aware of (and that's saying a lot, because I read a lot).
You have found the right group, MyLady! Welcome! :)
