Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) Do you dare? Can you add up all the books you read in this past year?

Did you set a goal in 2009? Did you meet it?
Are you setting a goal in 2010?

PS--the other version of this topic could be:
"Which books did you read in 2009?"

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

37 books

message 3: by Miss Amelia (new)

message 5: by Mounica (last edited Jan 04, 2010 04:57PM) (new)

Mounica | 73 comments I only kept record from June, so I know that I read 51 books June-December, but I'm not really sure how many I read before that.

And my goal for 2010 is to at least one book every week.

message 6: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) wow! 1 a week? that means you'll only have 7 days to read a whole book!
that sounds haaaaaard

message 7: by Mounica (new)

Mounica | 73 comments But that totals to 52 books in the year, and you read more than that. :]

Exactly 57. I kept count.
No doubt there will be less this year, as i intend on reading a few Stephan Kings :S

Also, i made contest called BOOK CHARACTER OF THE YEAR, where i choose up to 5 characters from each book i read, then every 2 months, i choose the best 5 in total.
So by the end there is 30 characters, they randomly get put against each other, and by elimination, i find my favorite character :)

Here are my top 4:
1) Skullduggery Pleasant
2) Elinor Loredan (inkheart)
3)Jacob Black
4) Jack Salmon (Lovely BOnes)

A lot of good characters did not make it past the first round though, beacsue good characters came up against winners.

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 2426 comments Hmm. Where might I find a list of all the books I read? Oh, yeah. I'm on goodreads. :)

I started my goodreads account in 09, so most of the books on there were read in 09. So, if that's right, about 200. I tend to reread a lot, though. So a few of them may have been first read years ago.

I can usually read two fiction books a week, sometimes more. This year, I've had a class that I have to read a ton for, so that's cut back on my leisure reading a bit.

Chandloski...loves Frodo Baggins wrote: "In 2010, I plan on reading a lot of the classics. Also some of the books that fellow group members have mentioned. Maybe....3-4 books a month? Classics can be pretty difficult."

You should definitely read classics. They're awesome. Which are you considering?

wow

message 15: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey | 505 comments Classics are awesome.Though sometimes they can be boring, at least to me. Ooh are Luisa May Alcotts books classic? I love those books!

message 16: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) i sure think so :D

message 17: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments I have no idea how many books I read in 2009, though I plan to keep a better track of the ones I read in 2010. In 2009, I probably read somewhere around 50 books.

I also plan to read many of the classics. I'm on Pride & Prejudice right now, and I plan to read more of Jane Austen's work.

message 18: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) i just signed up for this 100+ reading challenge on my blog, so at least 100 is my goal

message 19: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments I saw that, lolz. I think I'll make that my goal- and rereading books counts. lolz. if you think about it, you need to read a book roughly every 3 days to get 100 in. lol. as there and 365 days in a year.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

i didnt read as mush books but i read a lot of anime
15 anime books and 2 regular chapter books...

message 21: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) that's awesome! do you have a goal for this year?

message 22: by Ayunda (new)

Ayunda (ayundabs) last year I'm sure I reached 50... but maybe not 100. cause last year we've had our national exams so I focused more on that rather than reading..

message 23: by Kendall Anne (new)

Kendall Anne (dance4life) | 785 comments In 2009 I think a read around 40 to 50 books. This year I'm trying to read at least 75. Hopefully more!!

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

At school we have this thing called a reading challenge and we have to count how many books we read from February to August. I read 130 for that so I'm guessing I read around 150 books. What was really amazing though was that two kids in the year below me read 505 books EACH!!! :O

message 28: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) that's awesome!

Oooh, ooh! Read Sense and Sensibility after P&P! I can't decide which I like more...

message 30: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments okay! I am also going to fit in my usual YA books around them, so there may be a little while between them. lolz. So far on my 'classics' to-read list I have Wuthering Heights, and Sense and Sensibility at the top and Jane's others below them. any recommendations about specific ones I need to read?

message 31: by Natz (new)

Natz | 1 comments I lost count at around 250. And that was in, like, March. So, *takes out calculator* that would be about 1000 books. And I don't think that's all. That would mean per month, I would read about 83 books per month. I have waaay too much time on my hands.

message 32: by Rebekah Faith (new)

really?
how long are these books? thats like 3 books a day. they honestly cant be too long, unless you dont go to school and are a speed reader.

Im not calling you a lier, i just find it hard to believe. Unless, you read multiple books at the same time. OR your job is a publisher. hmmm, i dunno. What books did you read?

message 34: by Kendall Anne (new)

really? took me quite a few weeks to read BREAKING DAWN.
Though i do remember reading harry potter 2 in a day.
then Harry potter 3 the next day.
I had a LOT of free time back then.

message 39: by Jordan (last edited Jan 20, 2010 07:06PM) (new)

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 2426 comments I read Breaking Dawn in about a day and a half (after dinner one day, all day the next). If I have free time, I can finish HP7 in a day, too.
But lately? What's free time?

message 40: by ★ Jess (new)

yes, i know...sadly.

2 nights ago i stayed up until 1:30 reading BONE MAGICIAN from the halfway mark until the ending.
Fantastic book, and its the first time i have stayed up so long reading since HARRY POTTER 7

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah I thought so too, but they still get credit for it, which I don't think is really that fair.

message 44: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) i actually cant read something for that long. Not anymore, at least. If I read for too long at one time, i start to get really distracted and kind of bored... that might just be a "getting older" thing though

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

maybe lol

haha

message 49: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 2426 comments Is anybody like me? I read insanely fast, so fast that I miss a ton. Then I go back and read it like...four more times. It's such a habit now, I can't read slowly.
