Celeste (celestelueck) | 5 comments Sarah how was Click formented? Was the story continuous, with each author taking a chapter? or did each author write his or her own story? Just curious.

message 152: by Kim (new)

Kim | 47 comments Just finished Story of a Girl, which was wonderful.

message 153: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Funke (jordanfunke) | 2 comments Kiki Strike: The Empress's Tomb by Kirsten Miller, sequel to Kiki Strike: Inside the Shadow City. Five really smart teen girls (like engineers and pyrotechnicians and masters of disguise) form a group and go on all sorts of wacky adventures to save NYC. This book hasn't gotten the acclaim it deserves. My students LOVE these books and so do I.

K.S.R. (kareyshane) | 5 comments I just read Markus Zusack's book, The Book Thief, and was completely mesmerized by it!

bjneary | 236 comments I just finished Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen and I couldn't put it down! It was mesmerizing and I just loved Jacob and Marlena, Rosie, Camel, Queenie and all of the animals in the circus. What a tough life, but the characters seem to be happy when the times are good. But I do not like the animal cruelty parts in any book...but that doesn't stop me from reading them!

message 156: by bjneary (new)

bjneary | 236 comments I passed on The Book Thief to a friend and she is 3/4 through it and can't put it down, loves the characters---but then again, I luv all of Zusacak's books!

message 157: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Biederman | 5 comments My fave YA book read in last month would have to be Someday This Pain Will Be Useful To You by Peter Cameron. It's a wonderfully rich and compelling story about a 17 yr old boy living in nyc, confused about going to college, about who he is and what he wants. He has an amazingly observant and analytical mind and when he "crunches the numbers"--looks at the angles of his father, multi divorced mother, sister and therapist, his revelations and insight will really make you stop and reread so many of the pages.

message 158: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (mlhiggins84) I read Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card for a book group this month. It was wonderful. It's one of those classics I always meant to get around to but kept putting it off. I'm so glad I finally picked it up.

message 159: by Maya (new)

message 162: by K.S.R. (new)

K.S.R. (kareyshane) | 5 comments My favorite, like Maya, has been The Book Thief. Loved it.

message 163: by Kaye (new)

Kaye (kayelathe) | 7 comments The Book Thief is one of the best, most clever and engaging books I have ever read. I am pretty modest with my 5 star ratings, but I would have given it 10.

message 164: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (mlhiggins84) I remember the first time I read The Book Thief I was on vacation with my mom. I was reading the last few chapters on the way down to Florida and I cried the whole time. When we got to the hotel to check in even though I'd finished the book 10 minutes ago I was still crying. She wouldn't let me go into the lobby to check in because I could not make myself stop.
But it's one of those wonderful crys like everytime I read Where the Red Fern Grows or I watch Life is Beautiful and start crying from the very beginning because I know what comes later. This is going to come out weird but sometimes it just feels amazing to cry like that. It's kind of life affirming to feel that powerful of an emotion.

message 165: by bjneary (new)

bjneary | 236 comments I so agree!

message 166: by Tam Tam (new)

Tam Tam (lztamtam) | 1 comments One I liked, so far (let's see after the 2nd book in the series) is City of Bones by Cassandra Clare...it was entertaining, but also weird (if you read it, you'd probably know why!).

Another one I liked this month was The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale.

message 167: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melissacwalker) | 5 comments I read BOY MEETS BOY by David Levithan, which I just completely swooned over. It's really heartfelt and lovely.

message 168: by Kim (new)

Kim | 47 comments I just finished UGLIES which was so much fun...can't wait to read the next one. And I want to check out Boy Meets Boy - looks great.

message 169: by Ana (new)

Ana | 1 comments Bloom by Elizabeth Scott

message 170: by Lucy (new)

Lucy (lucytc) | 4 comments Tara Altebrando's The Pursuit of Happiness, a gorgeous teen summer read that blew me out of the water. From the packaging, I really wasn't expecting it to be much of anything. It's sensitive, smart, a lot of fun, totally engaging, and deserves to be a big book.

message 171: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (jskyf) | 1 comments I just finished Looking For Alaska by John Green and it was amazing. I've also recently read Twilight (loved it)and The Host (loved it)both by Stephenie Meyer. On my TBR pile are: I am the Messenger, The Astonishing Life of Otavian Nothing, New Moon, Stravaganza City of Sars, and Specials.

message 172: by Trevor (new)

Trevor Oakley (trevoroakley) I finished tearing through Shift by Jennifer Bradbury - really, really good realistic fiction / mystery.

message 173: by bjneary (new)

bjneary | 236 comments I just finished Can't Get There From Here by Todd Strasser and wow what a bummer book----the kids will love it! It is about homeless teens in New York that consider themselves a tribe, don't trust anyone but their friends in the tribe and sleep and eat whatever and wherever. They have names like Maybe, Country Club, Rainbow and 2Moro, are hungry, dirty and very cold since it takes place in the winter. Their lives on the streets really eats at you, you want them to get out and live, but instead they are dying one by one.... Let's hope teens get this message and don't run away from their problems. The book has adults reaching out but the homeless teens are too far gone or scared but most of all distrustful of a system of rules.

message 174: by Rakisha (new)

Rakisha (rakishabpl) I really liked the graphic novel The Plain Janes.

message 181: by bjneary (new)

message 182: by Ilana (last edited Apr 05, 2009 01:14PM) (new)

Ilana (ilanashayn) My fave in the past month was Graceling. That was end of March. I really want to read City of Glass and The Hunger Games.

message 183: by Andrea (new)

Andrea (alwright1) | 1 comments Hmm. Pretty Monsters Stories followed by The Hunger Games.

I loved Graceling, but I read it at the beginning of the year

message 184: by Jade (new)

Jade (noxidanamchara) City of Glass was hands down the best book I read this month. It's the best book I've ever read yet.

But I'd also recommend Alanna by Tamora Pierce.
Very quick and entertaining, I'm reading the last one now and the series is very enjoyable.

message 185: by Ilana (new)

Ilana (ilanashayn) I NEED to get City of Glass, but my library doesn't have it yet! Gah!
I love Tamora Pierce, her books are awesome.

message 186: by Anna (new)

Anna It was a light read, but I enjoyed The Lightning Thief. I also read Looking for Alaska--I loved An Abundance of Katherines so I found Alaska too depressing (for me).

message 187: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (runninguphill) | 2 comments I really liked City of Glass ^_^

Also I got an ARC of Jennifer Laurens Heavenly and it was perfect.

message 188: by Frezanda (new)

Frezanda | 5 comments I've just finished reading Cracker by Cynthia Kadohata. I had to stop myself howling and crying throughout this books. War sometimes just bring out the worst in men or governments. To think that those loyal dogs were considered as 'equipments' that was killed or discarded after war ends. 4000 dogs sent to Vietnam 1000 dogs died during the war but only 200 returned.

I hate wars.

That's also the reason why I have only read the Book Thief halfway. I made the mistake of peeking the ending. Haven't touched that book till now. I can imagine how loud I will cry and how draining its is to continue reading.

Whitney | 5 comments The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins I LOVED this book. Suzanne is such a talented writer and the topic is so interesting and intriguing.

Also, Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater I got the advanced reader for this on Thursday and finished the book by Saturday. For Twilight fans, this will be a must read when it comes out in August.

Alexis (alexabexis) Easily The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. That book definitely stays with you. And along those same lines, The Dead and the Gone by Susan Beth Pfeffer and Tomorrow When the War Began by John Marsden.
