I remember alot about it there were 2 guys 2 girls they could each master an element (fire water air earth)all 4 were adepts and they went to a school to be the adepts for their towns (I think) One of the tests was that they were put in a chamber with walls that closed in and they had to use their element to get out of the chamber. Then they all went to live in a house together before the school work actually started. It was a series,in fact I think it was 2 series each with I think 3 books, I guess the second three were a sequel to the first 3 but am not 100% positive of that.I believe the author was a woman and she wasn't an obvious woman like Mercedes Lackey or one of those ladies, it was someone that I had not heard of before. I am sure these would have fallen into the fantasy genre. Any help would be appreciated !!!

That sounds to me like the Circle of Magic four-book series by Tamora Pierce, followed by the The Circle Opens four-book series, although that was three girls (Sandry, Tris, and Daja) and a boy (Briar) -- at the end of the first book the four are caught underground and have to use their magic together to handle the walls collapsing, and they lived in a house with two older women who were also mages.
Close but not quite , The facts as I remember them are that there were 2 boys 2 girls (99% sure) and they only used earth fire air and water (97% sure).

Uh ...no that's not it either , but thanks for playing ;). I swear these books are not a figment of my imagination. They are real, now if I could only remember what they were called.
