Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Since we seem to have a lot of on-going conversations all over the place, try to post random things here!

This topic: What are you reading right now?

message 2: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) I'm currently reading Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. It's, obviously, about vampires. If you've ever read the Twilight Saga, you won't like the fact that you have to clear your mind of all the vamp concepts and start anew. I know, it's tough. I had to do it when I was reading the Night World series by L.J. Smith.

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

I am currently bouncing around too many. I'm reading the Graceling, Uglies, Shiver. There are others but this will be the main books for this week. (due back soon).

message 4: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Ha, I'm actually bouncing around, too. I'm still sort of finishing the last chapter of Digital Fortress; then today I started Vampire Academy and Uglies. At least we're getting in more books and pages!

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm hoping to increase the number of books this year. I never counted pages before, this will be interesting.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

I heard that book was good. What do you think of it so far?

message 11: by Zia (new)

Zia (zrg1) | 380 comments it is an alsome book

message 12: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Of course it is. It's about dragons.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

I think I have the book somewhere I just haven't gotten to it. Maybe this year. That book will pack on the pages for sure.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished reading Graceling... I have to say I'm not that impressed. I would give it a 2.5 stars. There were parts that I liked and parts that were just ok, but not enough for it to be Good or Great. I wouldn't read it again. However, if you like completely new realms where some people have special powers then you may like this one.

message 15: by Pandy (new)

Pandy That's how I feet about Graceling too, though many people seem to love it. I'm not opposed to the issues that are raised in the book that bother some people, but I find the story dull and I could never really care for the main character, who I find too distant. (I know that's part of her personality, but she's just not the sort of character who appeals to me.)

I'm rereading the Silmarillion, right now. I love the rich details, though it's sometimes hard to keep track of all the names of characters and places.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

She was distant and hard to identify. I did like how so had the internal battle. The story was dull. I was for interesting for a chapter boring for 3 then interesting again. There were too many LULL parts.

I haven't read that one. I am half way into Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. This book I find more worthy of my time. Except I'm not feeling so hot so instead of finishing the book I was sleeping all day. UGH.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

Also, I'd like to welcome you to the group. Thank you for jumping in =)

message 18: by Kate (new)

Kate (katemreads) | 225 comments I am currently reading many books. Right now it's Lipstick Apology, Fallen, Shiver, Dreaming Anastasia, Need, and more. I also have six new books that I bought and will probably start before finishing any of the above. I have to be reading at least three books at once, that way when one gets boring I can jump into the next. If they all get boring, well, it sometimes helps me get back into a story, sometimes it sadly doesn't. By the way, is anyone reading Shiver? I am and I'm sad to say that so far I find it really boring and dull. I'm on page 170ish and really want to like it since so many other people have but right now I just can't. Will it get any better?

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

Ah, Kate, I also just thought that Shiver was just Ok. It was a book that I wanted to like but didn't quite get there. I did think the ending was a tiny bit better than the beginning but not by much.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

[image error] I just finished the second book in the League Series. It is a Adult Sci-Fi Romance that I would highly recommend to anyone of age and to keep on your TBR read for when you become of age. By Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Wicked Lovely (Wicked Lovely, #1) by Melissa Marr Now I am currently working on the young adult Wicked Lovely. It isn't horrible and it isn't great. But I'm only just beginning the adventure. By Melissa Marr.

message 21: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 181 comments I read Wicked Lovely. It was ok. Not horrible, and not great, like you said.

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Geez... another one of those books. So, far I would add Graceling and Shiver to that list of just ok for 2010.

Have you ventured to find out if the series gets any better??

message 23: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 181 comments Naw. Haven't been to the library or the bookstore in ages. Our library has a pretty slim YA section. I might, though...

Graceling and Shiver were both just ok? I've been thinking about reading them. Are they worth the read?

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

Graceling, Po has a strong character to him and you will love him throughout the story. Grace is an assassin and I had little connection with her. I wanted to like the story. There were good points and then some lulls. But I think I will reach for the next in the series. I'd like to find out what happens with Po.

Shiver, again this book had lulls in it. The guy, forgot his name, was and would be a too amazing boyfriend. Too not real, which, worries me with the young teen craze. And I guess the weird part was she fell in love with a wolf. Normal people love animals and may obsess about their survival but not fall in Love with them. Creepy.

I think his name is Sam or something like that. I read the back of the book.
How similar is Shiver to Twilight? In regards to the romance and supernatural, it seems like another book trying to piggy-back off of Twilight's success...

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, Sam. When I picked it up I had no idea what I was going to be reading besides ya werewolf something. I wasn't even think Twilight when I was reading it. But I do think that it is very different besides the girl. Plain and boring. But I wouldn't consider say read or not based on Twilight.

message 27: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 181 comments The whole idea of werewolf-love is what made me think of Twilight. Bella-like characters annoy me...is this one a little stronger?

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

I do think she is a bit stronger. Independent and actually does something in a situation.

message 29: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 181 comments Hmm. I might still read it. Thanks for the info. :)

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

The book does have potential. They both do but they just didn't hit me. I do think they could get better. Of course that is why they will be series. It is always hard to judge a series by the first book.

message 31: by Aviva (new)

Aviva (newtimelord) | 551 comments Yay my first post! I'm reading Forest of the Pygmies by Isabel Allende. Its the third in a series.

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

Aviva, how is the book so far? How is the series?

message 33: by Aviva (new)

Aviva (newtimelord) | 551 comments GREAT

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

message 36: by Gloria (new)

Gloria | 3 comments I am currently reading Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger...although so far I don't like it. We shall see, though.

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, you must let us know what you think once you are done with Her Fearful Symmetry. I'm very curious!

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, now that I'm into the semester I can already see my lack of reading time. Oh boy. I'll try to get some books in but it doesn't look like it wont be nearly as many as usual. *Extreme disappointment*

message 39: by Aviva (new)

Aviva (newtimelord) | 551 comments i am way too busy. *whine/complain* hardly any free time (most days)

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm glad that I'm not the only one. Ah... Sigh... Books I miss you already.

message 41: by Aviva (new)

Aviva (newtimelord) | 551 comments i would say lol but its actually not that funny. i wish it was.

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

I know. Wouldn't it be nice to have more hours in the day just to read? It makes me more aware of the time that I have. I need to get my homework done earlier so I can have my nights for pleasure reading. Procrastination is apart of me and it is hard to get over that.

message 43: by Aviva (new)

Aviva (newtimelord) | 551 comments it would also be nice to not need sleep

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

That does seem like a major problem for me as well.

message 45: by Aviva (new)

Aviva (newtimelord) | 551 comments i have been very tired this week
