Here are the rules:

1) Books must be Historical Fiction unless otherwise specified in the task.

2) Books must be at least 100 pages long, and books less than 150 pages can only be used for 5 point tasks.

3) Books less than 1/2 finished may be counted for the challenge at the beginning, but ALL books must be completed and points recorded by 11:59p EST on April 30, 2010 for points to be counted as completed for the task.

4) Tasks are assigned a point value, which is awarded when the task is completed. You will also receive bonus points based on the length of each book (even for multiple book tasks), as follows:
Up to 150 pages = 2 bonus points
151 to 400 pages = 4 bonus points
401 to 650 pages = 6 bonus points
651 to 1,000 pages = 8 bonus points
1,000+ = 10 bonus points
If you fail to record the length of the book, you will still be awarded the task points, but will NOT receive bonus points. (Sorry, but I'm not going to hunt you down for them!)

Re-reads and audio are accepted unless specified otherwise.

I think that's it. Please feel free to use the other challenge thread for any questions... I'd like to keep this one clean and use it only for Official Challenge Business! :)

FYI- I've edited the rules a bit. Now that we have several multiple book tasks, I've made it clear in the rules that EACH book is awarded bonus points.

Scoring would look something like this:

Task 25.1:
A) Example book 1 - 397 pages (4 bonus points)
B) Example book 2 - 450 pages (6 bonus points)
C) Example book 3 - 700 pages (8 bonus points)

Total: 25+ 18 bonus = 43 points

Jon | 303 comments i know, ive spent the last hour sitting here picking books and going through library catalogue and tbr lol.. now i realise i have to actually read some of them too though not just chose them and make a list lol

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Jon - I find that is almost the most fun, picking the books. I wish I was home so that I could work on mine, but I won't be home until Tues.

Becky - okay, I'm not the brightest, so I am presuming that if the task requires more than one book, you get the appropriate number of points for each book as if it were a stand alone. Just want to make sure that I understand.

message 11: by Becky, Moddess (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 3034 comments Mod
If there is more than one book for a task, you get the number of points for the task once ALL of the books have been read for it, but you get bonus points for each one depending on length.

Does that help?

message 12: by Becky, Moddess (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 3034 comments Mod
So, say it's a 25 point task that requires three books... You'd get 25 points for reading all three, and then each book would get it's own bonus on top.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Thanks - that's what I thought, just wanted to make sure I was getting it right. I get off on tangents on these things sometimes and end up realizing that I am way off base.

Gaskell's N&S is one I wasn't 100% sure on... I'm not that up on English history, sad to say. So I just Wiki'd it, and here's what they say:

"The book is a social novel that tries to show the industrial North and its conflicts in the mid-19th century as seen by an outsider, a socially sensitive lady from the South."

Since it's mid-19th c, and that's when the book was written, sorry, no, it wouldn't count.

message 46: by Jon (new)

Jon | 303 comments yeah i thought so too...such a shame we cant weedle the odd classic into HF as you learn so much about a period and in a way its more accurate written by someone whos living in it.. but i do agree technicaly HF is supposed to be of a period 50 years or so prior to being written.

I'm a bit more flexible, I'll allow a 20 year grace period, or if it's in doubt as to the setting of a book, a classic, but if it's clear that it's a contemporary book, I just can't allow it.

I hope you all understand! :)

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3120 comments I am coming up blank on some of these. i guess I don't own enough HF.

message 49: by Jon (new)

Jon | 303 comments im actually a bit daunted by 4 months of solely HF, i might need to take the odd HF break to read a classic or something else, but hey its fun seeing whats on the library catalogue and also realising how much that counts as HF is floating around my shelves at home

i would of course love the dec challenge 3 place person to suggest reading a couple of books of any genre you fancy lol.
