I didn't like him at first, but he's really grown on me. Especially since the whole teaching thing. :)
I love Al! I desperately want Rachel and Al to be romantically involved, unfortunately I don't see Harrison taking that route. Anybody else?
I love Al but don't know that I see the books taking that turn for them to be romantically involved...then again, you never know! He does more than fit into her "loving the wrong and dangerous people"!
I loved Al in the latest book...I think the character and his and Rachel's relationship just gets better and more interesting! Can't wait to see more!!
I really like Al, hes my favorite. I really want Al and Rachel to have a fling or something. I have always seen her with Trent however AL is a CLOSE second. I dont even know why either. It may be because their relationship has grown in front of us and we have witnessed it from day one. First they try and kill each other, they have an understanding and finaly they have a sort of friendship. On a side note, if I hear about sparkly pantyhose one more time, Im going to scream. I would have hoped that more fashion sense would have rubbed off on Rachel after living with and around several fashion forward people for a few years...
I can't say enough about Al. He truly is an amazing and very well written character. I want more!!! hehe
Demons. Dont ask me why, I have no clue. (fantasy ones thanks, real ones suck)Maybe its because if you can tame a demon you can tame anything.
Kinda like seducing a priest? (Imma probably go to hell for this but...)If you can take a priest away form God you are the s**t!
Yeah, like I said its probably best not to get inside my head. >.<
I really loved the interaction between Al & Rachel in this book. I was really glad to see more of his world. I like how he is a demon but we see he has a soft side too... even if it is a little twisted. Thinking of the incident with the cushy chair vs the stool (kept vague to prevent spoilers). Rachel may be able to get Al to agree to certain things she wants, but even then it's only as much as he's willing to allow. Rachel's attitude toward being his student toward the end may lead future books in interesting directions. After all, Al is now "Rachel Candy"...
From A Fistfull of Charms...
"Damn it, why did I always fall for the underdog?" ~Rachel
"I've seen how you get around dangerous men, and you always fall for the underdog. Nick is both. I mean, he's dangerous and he's been hurt." ~Jenks
Al's demon status has been hurt. In a Newt vs Al fight, Al is clearly the underdog. Al is also "recovering after selling almost everything to keep his demon ass out of demon-ass jail." It was also Rachel's resistance to testify that put Al in Jail.
Pierce may be good at black magic and dangerous, but he doesn't have that "he could be a danger to me" feel that always seems to attract Rachel. He follows her like a puppy dog. I just don't see her maintaining lasting feelings for someone she can push around and control so easily.
I wonder who Rachel would back in an extended battle between Pierce (the demon hunter) and Al (her teacher and protector against Newt).
Regarding Rachel & Trent... ewwww. Their relationship always seemed more like siblings. Fighting but coming to each others rescue in the end. I just can't see that match. Plus, in previous books, Trent could barely tolerate Ceri's smutty aura and was terrified of her. And she's Elf royalty.
Al and Newt are my two favorite characters hands down (including Rach of course). If i had to choose I would choose Al, only cuz he's the more funny, and as Amythyst said, "...All that trying to kill her was just sexual tension".Also tell if this is crazy. I so imagine The Warden from Super Jail when I read about Al, in the books.
From wiki about the warden: “The Warden (David Wain) is the proprietor of Superjail. Clad in a purple tailcoat, gloves, a purple top hat, red cummerbund, and yellow-tinted glasses, the Warden has been described as a “sadistic Willy Wonka”. Despite his seemingly happy and carefree demeanor, he is unmistakably an evil and selfish man, as one possible future depicts him ruthlessly subjugating the entire human race and turning the whole world into a single prison state..”

I posted this on the actor picks at Harrison's blog, since I was thinking about what actors could play the characters. And every time I thought about Al, I just see someone who kinda looks like the Warden. That's not a bad thing either...but Al is way cooler.
OMG I thought I was the only one on this entire site who liked super jail! That totally works!Didnt think of it before but I dont think I will be able to get that image out of my head now when I read about Al.

(XD)
But yeah?
So I know I'm not crazy.
Whew.
Love him! Al is actually my favorite character in this series, and probably the only reason I've continued reading the Hollows books. I'm glad I've kept reading, since Black Magic Sanction is my favorite thus far, and I really hope Al continues to be featured!
He's absolutely my favorite character too, I live for the scenes with him and rachel, so Basically BMS has been my favorite book so far. and really, KH has to know, Al is TOTAL rachel candy. He is more "dangerous" than any other guy...plus she needs a strong one, and al is a little kinky, but really he just needs some love? little bit of rachel candy 8)
Al is too hilarious. I love him. He is some major comic relief when things are going down the tubes for Rachel. I love his relationship with Rachel. They are so funny together.
I like Al too, a lot - I also like Minius a lot. But did anyone on here ever read Kim's short story "The Bespelled?" It's about how Al took Ceri. Um - heh, I think Rachel should be VERY VERY careful about dealing with Al, or trusting a thing he says, or trusting any emotion he shows. the Bespelled is a bit shocking, I think. Hmmm. No, not a bit. It is a LOT shocking to the tune of about 6 OMGs within 10 minutes :) I'd like to know if I read an exerpt from the Bespelled, or if the short story is in a book with other stories. A friend showed me a copy, copied from somwhere. Not a book, I didn't see any title pages up top like books have. I should look that up :) If you read the short story, you realize the importance of that Tarot card that shows a demon dragging away a girl that looks like Ceri - which Rachel mentioned to Trent at his wedding.
I don't know what the demons "really" look like, what Al showed Bis may have just been a bigger version of a Gargoyl, just another disguise. I have no idea what they really look like - or what their own species calls itself. Demons? They certainly are not the fallen angels (demons) of christianity, which exists in Kim's world. And the ever after is definitely not hell, either.
I'd like to know what the war was about - and who actually started it. Rachel said the Elves started it. Ceri seemed to confirm that with "maybe we deserved it." I'd like to know exactly what happened, when did the elves kill all the female demons (except Newt, which they didn't know about).
I absolutely HATE the Coven or Morals/Ethics - I loved how Rachel grew a pair and threatened to tell the world the TRUTH, since the Coven is so hung up on it (or so the hypocrites say). And I beyond hate Nick. Also, WHICH demon told Nick about Rachel. Um... was it Al? For those that love Al, that might seem inconceivable. Heh - read The Bespelled. Doesn't matter, but it's proof enough for me that Nick wants Rachel dead - WHY? I don't know.

He has thick lips, Kim said a few times, when he's the englishman in green velvet.
i hope i don't sound like an idiot when i ask this... but does anyone know how to pronounce Al's summoning name. Cause every time I see Algaliarept i just say Al.
I dont know. What I DO know is that when I read it, I see it as al-a-ga-rept. When I think about pronouncing it my toung starts to cramp up....Edit: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_...
Q: How do you pronounce Algaliarept?
A:
Okay, I was curious about this too, so I went straight to the source and asked Kim Harrison and her response was: "...it's Al (like the name), gal (as in woman), liar (as in pants on fire), and finally rep (like in reptile)" it was nothing like I thought it'd be...

Hmm, I'd have thought it was:AL - GALI - AREPT. Since Ceri calls him Galy. This is the name of a "real" demon in the goetia or grand grimoir I think, or some other book on demonology. Ah, OK, the "real" demon is AGALIAREPT, No "L" - a demon in the Grand Grimoire as commander of the second legion of Hell. He is said to have the power of revealing the hidden secrets of courts and council chambers. Perhaps that's pronounced A-gal-liar-rept and not A-gali-arept. Who knows. :)
I've always loved Al. I love that he's this cocky, vain demon, but he's also lonely and misunderstood. I really like the way Kim is, possibly, taking Al and Rachel's relationship... I think it could definitely work romantically, or as much romance as Al can give.
I am a HUGE fan of this series! I love AL! He's obnoxious, egotistical, and always hilarious! He seems to always find a way to "help" Rachel, even if it for only his own personal agenda. I don't see a love match...but a fling would be entertaining. I would also love to see him permanently banish Nick LOL.
Autumn Rayne wrote: "I so totally second the banishing Nick part!"Me too! I always hated him.. ALWAYS!!! Lol.
Hmm...maybe Al could "accidentally" drop him in a ley line? LOL. I never liked Nick. Even from the begining he seemed like two bit hustler and gave me the creeps! I think it says something that we're all cheering for the Al, "the demon," instead. :)

Also..
Awwww! Toasted Cheese Sandwiches!!!
I think we call that "grilled cheese"! It's good! Make toast - then put on a piece or two of swiss cheese, a thin slice of tomato and some oregeno. It's called "bullshit pizza." But it's GOOD.
In my part of the country, Grilled cheese is two pieces of bread that is buttered, cooked in a skillet and then a piece of cheese is sandwiched between the cooked bread. Toasted cheese is the lazy mans grilled cheese and is plain bread cooked in the toaster and then cheese applied (if youre feeling a bit more chef like, you microwave it for 15 seconds to melt the cheese more.) LOL...either way, YUM! Never had it with anything but cheese though, may have to try that.
So I've been reading this series through over the last month and I've just reached the end of Pale Demon and am starting on A Perfect Blood. Algaliarept has fast become one of my favorite characters, along with Newt. I've come to really love reading about them and the demons in the ever after, I think it's the most interesting part of the series! I could read an entire book just featuring the demons, really. They're fascinating.Anyway, I'm really liking Al right now, and the way his relationship with Rachel is evolving. (And I have no friends who are reading this series to talk to!) I see that Trent looks like the major contender for a relationship with Rachel in the next books, but I'm still really hoping to see something more with Al instead. Is anyone else hanging onto this seemingly brittle rope with me?
Okay, more: It bothers me that at the end of Pale Demon Rachel accepts the wrist strip even though it's obvious Algaliarept was really concerned about her when she was summoned out and then fought Ku'Sox alone. Also, I understand they hid Rachel's still being alive from him in order to give her a chance to choose her life/destiny, but I'm not sure how I feel about that either, because he probably would've been pissed but let Trent do his thing to keep Rachel alive.
You can put your name in the shipper hat here (no you aren't alone in being "Team Al"):http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2...
Al's my favorite character, but I can see where everyone on the other end is coming from. We read these from Rachel's POV so we see the softer side of Al, but I don't blame the others one bit for keeping him in the dark since you can't really trust demons.
Al is a great character. He's soooo bad, nasty, mean, then caring about Rachel. He keeps you on your toes. The drunk Al at the end of Ever After was great.
Kenna wrote: "In my part of the country, Grilled cheese is two pieces of bread that is buttered, cooked in a skillet and then a piece of cheese is sandwiched between the cooked bread. Toasted cheese is the lazy ..."I thought it was always made by buttering the bread, putting a slice or two of cheese in between the bread and grilling the top and bottom in a frying pan. I've always heard it called both (toasted & grilled). I don't see a toaster making the bread hot enough to actually melt the cheese.
Al is a wonderfully grey and complex character and one of my favorites. I like that he is like the scary comical uncle trying to "raise" Rachel as a demon - more of that please :). In the end of EA it was quite intressting to note that maybe R hasn't fooled him as much as she thinks when she stole Ceri.
I Love Al. Does anyone else know that Al is named after an actual demon? In the book its Algaliarept. However, the actual spelling is Agaliarept.
Jennifer wrote: "I Love Al. Does anyone else know that Al is named after an actual demon? In the book its Algaliarept. However, the actual spelling is Agaliarept."Jennifer, that is really interesting.
Jennifer wrote: "I Love Al. Does anyone else know that Al is named after an actual demon? In the book its Algaliarept. But don't know if it is from him she took the inspiration or just the name However, Agaliarept is a trader of secrets which Big Al sort of is to.
All I can say is eeeekkkkk! lol Her mentioning of the last Hollows short story that will be released from Al's pov has me psyched!!! I cannot wait to read it!
I can't wait to read it either! I was so disappointed when it wasn't released with TUP's mmbp. And those blue butterflies on the pages of TWWNN?! OMGosh! Days away! I know many are sad the series is ending but I'll be sad after I read it.
I like this character actually. He's unique, rude, cruel, ugly but with morals, crazy and borderline insane. With that and more, I have enjoyed his development by the author from book 1 to now.
Al has been my fav character throughout the entire series. Such a complex, sensual, intelligent, smartass has great appeal, demon or not. Always felt there were many layers to his character. And loved his clear perception of Rachel's abilities from the very start. Always hoped he & Rache would have a fling, even tho I get that was not realistic. Can't wait for SS w/his POV.

Agaliarept: This demon appears in the Grand Grimoire and is named as a general of Hell. He is purported to command the Second Legion of Spirits for the glory of the emperor Lucifer and his Prime Minister, Lucifuge Rofocale. Agaliarept is a keeper of mysteries, and he is credited with the power to reveal any arcane or sublime secrets to the dutiful practitioner. Buer, Guison, and Botis, three beings traditionally included among the seventy-two demons of the Goetia, supposedly answer directly to him. See also BOTIS, BUER, GUISON, LUCIFER, LUCIFUGE, ROFOCALE.
But, in truth? He is so much more than claimed. I have worked and been bonded with both him and Abaddon for 20 yrs. Of course, they've been around my entire life. So, I have a lifetime's experience of them both.
