Young Adult Fiction for Adults discussion
Introductions
Hi! I finally found a group that fits perfectly! I like to read young adult books, especially fantasy. The stories are just much more alive, fantastic and mostly with a lot of unexpected turns and deepness than in the adult section. Almost all the books I've read turned out to be page turners and I read them in a very short time. My favorites are The Hunger Games and sequels, everything connected to vampires and fairies but also the Abhorsen series.
Hi, everyone:My name is Cheryl Landmark and I'm a young adult book addict! I live in Northern Ontario, Canada, on the shores of Lake Superior. It's a perfect place to indulge my obsessive need to read and write young adult fantasies. I've always been an avid reader since early childhood, but, lately, since joining Goodreads and spending oodles of time on book review blog sites, it seems my compulsion to read has intensified. I do read other genres as well, including mystery, paranormal and adult fantasy, but young adult fantasy is by far my favourite.
Nice to meet you all! I'm Leslie, an ex lit prof, writer and avid reader of genres of all kinds. A few members of a writers' group I've recently joined focus on writing YA, so I've decided to join this Goodreads group to further explore what younger generations are reading. More about my reading tastes, reflections on the writing process and my book THE READING LIST: LITERATURE, LOVE, AND BACK AGAIN (which I'm currently completing for publication in fall 2011) can be found at my blog, www.the-reading-list.com
Thanks for the welcome, Wendy.Hi, Heidi! I'm glad to be here. It should be interesting and fun to learn what others are reading and what they think about the characters and plots of young adult novels.
Hi, all. I'm a reader and a writer of both horror and YA. I'm just finishing my novel "Dead Spell" which is going to an editor next week. I'd love a reader's perspective on it after that! http://belindaf.blogspot.com/p/dead-s...

Hi, I'm Julie and I'm from the Philippines. Most of my favorite books are YAs so joining this group would be the best treat for me :)
Hi. My name is April, and I live in Louisiana. I have been on the Goodreads site for a few weeks, but I haven't formally introduced myself. I am a high school English teacher and have always been a YA afficionado :) I am a reader of series YA and historical fiction. I grew up with the Sweet Valley Twins and the Babysitter's Club. Maybe that's why I like to read series books-- the characters become a part of my circle of friends. My favorite series of late are- Wicked Lovely, Blue Bloods, The Fever series (probably my FAVORITE favorite recently! I read the Percy Jackson series and enjoyed it and just read book 1 of the Knightley Academy.
Hi everyone my name is Malinda, I am also new to this group and this site. I have always loved to read, but somewhere around the age of twenty five I have become addicted. Now at thirty with three kids and being a stay at home mom, I have found that its my escape.I love all books no matter what the age groups are. Since this group is about YA books, I'll stick to that.
The "Feather series" by Abra Ebner was one of the first YA series I fell in love with in just the last few years. I highly recommend them.
Hush Hush, Fallen, Need, Vampire Academy, Immortal series and so many others. A new one I picked up on accident was good, but then I read The author was only 18 and I decided I liked it even more was "Halo" by Alexandra Andorentto. The "Hunger Games" was so good I read all three books in two in half days.
This group was such a good idea and if anyone has any recommendations for me please fell free share them!
We're full of recommendations, so be careful what you ask for. We're all drowning in our To Be Read lists. No need to stop at just YA, we all talk about 'Adult' books we love too. I'd be interested, for sure.
Welcome to the group, all the newbies.
Hi...My name is Linda and I have joined the Cozy Mystery Group here on GoodReads and I decided to join this group as well too since I love to read Young Adult Books. My other hobbies are Counted Cross Stitch, Stamped Embroidery, Quilting, and Crocheting.
I am disabled and I don't get out in the Winter Time as it is just way too dangerous for me.
I am lucky to have a huge 2 story Library that is only about a jump and a leap from where I live at. My Library is two floors high and it is so neat because they have the Children's/Young Adult library enclosed with all windows and two doors inside of the Library itself. Whenever I go to the Library I spend most of my time in the Young Adult Section of the Children's Library. They have a separate door for Young Adults and a separate door for the Children's sections of the Library. It is pretty neat looking.
I spend alot of time at the Library from Spring through November. My Library is online too which is really neat. They just went to Self - Checkout System which I think is pretty neat myself. They have every magazine that you can think of too which I love to read magazines as well too.
I am collecting all of Nancy Drew Original Mystery Series. I never got to go to the Library as a child so I missed out reading all of the children's books and the young adult books so now I'm playing catch up as you might say. I dearly love my Library. It is pretty cool and neat looking. They even have a Auditorium now for young adults or even adults to do different things and to have different contests and things like that in the Auditorium.
I have read all of Miss Read's Books which I think are very wonderful and I have started to read some of Nancy Drew Mystery Series too.
Thanks for letting me join this group.... :). I know that I will learn alot from this group and what you have read and I can chose my books from you that I want to read.
I have a Spiral Notebook full of "My Favorite Authors" and their books that they have written. Now granted I have not read all of them yet either.
I have two bookshevlves - big ones - in my apt and I have another medium size bookcase in my bedroom and they are all full of books. They are starting to overflow a little bit... but that is okay though.
I have been a reader all of my life and I have read all kinds of books in my life time.
I think my all time favorite Author as far as Young Adult Books is concern is Gene Stratton Porter who wrote "The Girl Of The Limberlost" and the one that is called "Freckles" or something like that. I have been to her home place in Indiana and I fell in love with her books from that time on. I have the book "The Girl Of The Limberlost" in my Pile to Read. I just bought it. I lost her Original book in my apt fire back in the 90's and I was sick about it because it was one of her Original books that she wrote. The one that I got from amazon.com is a Indiana Classics one so that is neat too.
You will be hearing from me alot on here since I love to read Young Adult Books as well as the Cozy Mystery Ones.
Thanks for letting me join this wonderful group. I am Young at Heart.
Welcome ladies! And Linda, if you're looking for Children's books to fill in your repatoire, I have a whole slew of favorite children's book authors I could recommend. Love them!
Awesome, welcome to the group everyone!Cari, if you're looking for your next Hunger Games or HP, can I suggest Chaos Walking Trilogy by Patrick Ness?
Cari the first book (Knife of Never Letting Go) takes some getting used to, but once you finish and read book two you will be hooked!
BeccaCould you give me some of the Authors that you love so well - The Children's Authors that is - Thanks
Sure! Bruce Coville and Susan Cooper come to mind right away, Lloyd Alexander, Katherine Paterson, and Walter Farley are some personal favorites as well. Susan Cooper is by far my favorite. I've read almost everything she's ever written and they still thrill me as an adult.

Kayla, I have published authors on my radio show every Tuesday. If you are looking for great advice from writers who have 'made it' be sure to tune in at www.blogtalkradio.com/angelsandwarriors. If you miss the live show, you can always go back and listen to the archived shows. You definitely want to listen to Lou Aronica, as the former Senior Vice President of two of the top publishing houses in this country he absolutely knows what he's talking about. If you do join us live feel free to call in with questions and comments, please.

Hey guys,I guess I haven't introducte myself, so now just a few words about me.
I'm from austria, my name is Martina (Tina) and I'm 26 years old. I'm working in an office for a bus company in Vienna and I love music, sports, movies and books.
Though I passed the past few years without reading so much, 'cause of less time and because of learning and doing other stuff. I returned to the "book-world" after I've read Harry Potter and then Twilight and I guess this books got my into all this supernatural and fantasy and young adult books.
I also have read two books of Cecila Ahern but there I missed a bit the fantasy stuff, so after a suggestion from stephenie Meyer (on a fansite) I started to read "The Mortal Instruments" series and this was in January this year and I gooooot ttttttoooottaaaallyyy into it - I love this series, I love Jace and oh god, just great - and I totally look forward for the next 3 books :D
Then afterwards I fall into reading series (cause with just one book - I fell for the characters and then it's over much to fast, so wiht more books it will last longer).
After MI - I started to join "goodreads" and read Hunger Games (love Peeta, don't like Katniss anymore) and now I just finished "Darkes Power" Trilogy and I'm so into the story of Chloe and Derek and the other -and hope soo much there's really going to be more books about them.
So that's my status at the moment, and now I'm totally undecided what I should read next... there are so many good books are out there :D
so thats about me, hope it was not to long and boring ;)
and hope you understand the most, my english could be better and sometimes I don't get the word order properly. sorry :o)
