Hi, i just joined this group and i actually just found this site yesterday. Im excited about being able to discuss and share my book interesst and ive already found alot of new books that i want to read through here. I used to read alot when i was younger, but then stopped for awhile cuz of school and other stuff going on..
About a year ago i got back into reading again, and i love YA (all fantasy genres and paranormal romance) =)

Thanks for joining us Louise. I believe you will like it here. I'm like you with the not reading much since college. I pretty much got burnt out with all the required reading in school and had a lapse of a long time before I read anything more than a magazine or newspaper. Now about the new books you are finding. Be afraid, be VERY afraid because soon your TBR (to be read) list will be so long that it is overwhelming. I know from experience, tehe.
Please jump right it on any of the discussions.
Welcome, Louise! Your TBR list will be LONG after joining this group. Haha! Peep is right...the people on here are the best!

I've just finished my first YA novel: A M..."Hey guys you should check it out. The first two chapters are up and they look good. Go on, you know you want to.
I'm new today and can't wait to dive in. I'm Becca, 25 years old, a mom of one, and I've been obsessed with books since before I can remember. I LOVE YA fiction best of all. Favorite books: Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini, Hunger Games, anything by Shannon Hale, and old school stuff like the Narnia Series by C.S. Lewis. I love to debate, I'm very opinionated, and I want lots of recommendations.
Well Becca you have come to the right place.#1. You like Hunger Games
#2. You love debate
#3. You are opinionated
You will fit right in my dear. Welcome to YAFA.
First question Becca are you on Team Gale or Team Peeta?
I haven't decided yet. Both have a lot going for them. I haven't read the second book yet, so I suspend judgment until I can get a copy.
Wrong answer Rebecca! Team Peeta is the only logical choice (jk) Welcome! Sounds like you will fit right in here :)
Welcome to the group newbies! A couple of things you will learn right away is that Peep is Team Gale and Heidi is Team Peeta and they are both actively recruiting people to their sides so you can't give in to the pressure. You must read both Hunger Games and Catching Fire before you choose a team or else you will be hounded. Then you have to fight for your team in every thread in the group! We go way off topic here...

Hey! No trying to sway Becca (Gale) before she reads Catching Fire (Gale)! Welcome Becca and all the other newbies, I hope (Gale) you enjoy it. We all have a great time debating (about Gale and his awesomeness) and as previously stated (Gale) your TBR pile will grow exponentially.

Yep Becca The Book Thief is definitely a 5 Star book. You should listen to the audio version it is terrific!

Hello, everyone! I'll jump on the bandwagon here and introduce myself. My name is Jason, and I'm from New York but currently living in Japan. I do love reading and writing, particularly young-adult fantasy, so when I joined goodreads I immediately started looking for a group like this!I just think these young-adult genres exhibit so much of what I enjoy about adolescents in general, a sense of adventure, an openness, and a creativity so many people tend to lose as they get older. It's just all about imagination and endless possibilities, isn't it?
Thanks, and hopefully we'll get a chance to talk again soon!
Welcome Jason! YA is definitely my favorite genre, especially paranormal romance and urban fantasy.
Thanks Bluemoon, Japan is lots of fun. Have you ever been here? You should come visit it if you haven't already! Thanks to you too Shannen. Urban fantasy definitely has a lot of fans, but I'm never able to settle on a title. Is there one you would hold up as your favorite? What attracts you to the genre in general?
My favorite YA books are The Twilight Saga don't hold it against me), The Hunger Games series, Shiver, The Dark Divine and a few others.
My fave non-YA series is the Darkfever series.
My fave non-YA series is the Darkfever series.
Welcome aboard Jason! Hunger Games isn't Urban Fantasy, cause its missing the fantasy portion, no magic. It's more post-apocalypse sci-fi type, but a dang good read no matter what genre it falls in. As far as Urban Fantasy is concerned, Jason you should check out the "Wicked Lovely" books by Melissa Marr and the "Word and the Void" series by Terry Brooks. There's lots of good Urban Fantasy out there and you'll get lots of recommendations from this group. Happy Reading!
Just listed my fave YA, not UF. Most of what I read is PNR, be it YA or adult.
Shannen, Yeah, I understand lots of people get up in arms about Twilight. I've never read it so I can't really say anything, but if it gave you something to enjoy it did a good job. Thanks for the welcome Becca! I'm not too worried about specific genre distinctions either. I look forward to checking out more of these suggestions and hopefully acquiring a few. Talk to you later and have a great night!
Hey Welcome to the group Jason! Someone mentioned Wicked Lovely, it's free on the Kindle right now if you have one of those or the software. So is The Luxe and about 11 of the Lemony Snicket books. I haven't read any of those so I don't know if they're any good but free is free!
Welcome Jason! As you can see, we all like different things around here, but that is what makes this group great. Be warned, we do get a little opinionated about some things though (not me of course, just some others) :)
Hey I just discovered this thread! I don't think I ever introduced myself. Ha, I guess I just jumped right in and joined the discussions.Welcome Jason! :) It's great that Goodreads allows people from all over the world to talk about common interests. I'm from the Philippines!
Peep, let me know what you think of Luxe. As for Wicked Lovely, a lot of people enjoyed it but it was just okay for me. Maybe urban fantasy isn't really my thing? As for the Lemony Snicket books, I read all of those! But I only borrowed them from a friend. They're middle grade so maybe a bit young for your taste. I enjoyed the first few ones but the latter books became dragging.
Hey Chachic I don't plan on reading the Luxe. I just have it because it was free. It's got to be a really, really slow day for me to start reading it.
I know what you mean, I'll probably download everything that I could get for free too if I had an e-reader. I know you still have a lot of other books in your TBR pile!
Welcome to the group Jason! Don't worry we don't bite - well not that hard, there will most likely be no scarring.
Hi, I just joined the group also. I'm soon to be 50 (yikes) but have always liked YA books as well as my usual romances. I don't read alot of YA, but I have been going back and rereading some of the ones I liked when I was young.I just finished my latest read of The Sherwood Ring by Elizabeth Marie Pope (I saw that one on an earlier post by Josie). It has always been one of my favorites, and I was long overdue to read it again.
As far as other YAs, besides HP, I love the Anne of Green Gables books, the Little House books, Eight Cousins and Rose In Bloom, series like Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden and Cherry Ames. it's impossible to list all my favorites, but those are a few.
I currently work in a bookstore, where I used to practically run the children's section. It was great seeing all my old favorites and recommending them to others, and seeing new books as they came out. My daughter also worked there for a couple years (also in the kids' section) and enjoyed it just as much. She is now working on her Masters of Library Science, so you see that the book bug bit her hard too!
I look forward to seeing what others are reading too!
Welcome Susan! I'm a lover of all that you mentioned above, except I haven't read The Sherwood Ring. Another book for the TBR list...
First off welcome Susan and Alexia. Make yourselves at home. This IS a great group.Wow Susan works in a bookstore. Talk about a fox guarding the hen house. Do you EVER bring home a paycheck?
Alexia - what people say you shouldn't read YA? They should be whipped!!
I liked Everwood too. The girl that was the love interest is now on Brothers and Sisters.
I hope you both post often.
