Nora aka Diva (DuctTapeDiva) | 246 comments I got Midnight as a birthday present from my brother Logan. He very thoughtfully yelled "here".. as the book bounced off my forehead. Thankfully it was a paperback copy. I have been reading Koontz ever since.

message 102: by David (new)

David McGowan (dmcgowanauthor) Haha, great intro Nora!

message 103: by Pinkyysuee (new)

Pinkyysuee | 1 comments My first Dean Koontz book was Dragon Tears. I was around 16 or so and a friend of mine knew I liked King type genre so he lent me Dragon Tears and said I would love it. I read it and have ever since. I have read most of Dean's books (more then once!).

message 104: by Nichole (new)

Nichole Renee (nichole_beltz) | 1 comments Like so many, my first book was Watchers. I was in 8th grade and had seen it on the library shelf, but the cover (that bloody print belonging to the Outsider) freaked me out. I finally garnered the guts to read it...and I haven't put Koontz's books down since then.

message 105: by Wes (new)

Wes (wes50) I read my first Koontz book nearly 30 years ago, but honestly, I can't remember which one it was. I have read many of them over the years. Sometimes I can't remember if I've read a particular title at first, but once I read a synopsis of the story, I will know that I have.

message 106: by Alli (new)

Alli The Book Giraffe (allithebookgiraffe) I started reading his books because he is my mothers favorite author. She owns 30 or so of his books.

message 107: by Becky (new)

Becky I was a senior in high school in a speech class. Our assignment was to pick a book & basically give an oral book report on it. One of the brainiacs in my class gave his on Watchers. I could get out of class & to the school library fast enough to check out that book. I have been hooked ever since but Watchers is still my favorite.

message 108: by Afsana (last edited Aug 05, 2012 01:31AM) (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) Its been great reading how everyone started reading koonts.

When I was young didn't really have much interest in books but once I got to leaving school I got interested.

The very first book I owned was a koontz omnibus. my brother gave me £5 for a birthday present and I went to the local newsagent and they had a 3 in one book written by dean koontz which had Lightening, The bad place and midnight. I bought it as it was £5 and sounded interesing and in my budget.

Since then have been reading all dean koontz books. have read all of them except The Odd series as could not get into them and I have got what the night knows on my tbr.

my favourite is strangers, false memory watchers. His older books are the better ones but he is still good

I love the quotes he uses and at present can't remember which book it was from- the rhyme santa's twin

Thanks to everyone who has been sharing :-) We love to hear your stories.

message 110: by Sheila (new)

Sheila The first Koontz book I remember reading is Dragon Tears. My friend handed it to me and said, "You'll be hooked by the end of the first sentence." I read it, and it turned out she was right. Dragon Tears, however, was not my first Koontz book. I know I read some before that, although I don't remember which one(s).

message 112: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 94 comments my first dean book was lightning-still one of my favorite books by any author. i don't remember how i got the book (it was the nineties) but i've loved dean ever since. dragon tears and watchers round out my top 3

Rachel wrote: "i would love to have a time machine !!! :)"

Yes but think of all the trouble it would cause if in the wrong hands :-) or even in the hands of someone who thinks they are doing good. It's a very interesting concept to think about and I continue to be drawn to movies, tv shows and books about time travel.

message 116: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 94 comments very true- one small thing could basically mess up the future of the world-but still fun to think about

did you see frequency?

message 117: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Lightning and Shadowfires are two of my favorite, but my absolute favorite is the Odd Thomas series.

It saddens me to know, through his manuscripts, that his work isn't published in his lifetime. It's strange how attached one can get to fictional characters. I look forward to and dread the upcoming books.

I don't think so - is that a movie?

message 119: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 94 comments yes starring dennis quaid and jim cavezial- basically a guy in the present finds a way to talk to his dad in the past and things in the present start to change because of their conversations-it's a great movie

Love the Odd series-reading new one now

I'm sure Dean appreciates that you turned your friend into a bookcase and feature Koontz books in your friend turned bookcase. I think I read something like this happening in a Dean Koontz book :-)

He was clinically dead after the accident—but was miraculously revived. Now Hatch Harrison and his wife approach each day with a new appreciation for life.

But something has come back with Hatch from the other side. A terrible presence that links his mind to a psychotic's, so that a force of murderous rage courses through him.
Hideaway by Dean Koontz

message 133: by Josh (new)

Josh Barnett (joshyboy98311) | 79 comments My first introduction to Dean Koontz was the movie Soul Survivor. My dad is a HUGE Dean Koontz fan. One night he saw that Soul Survivor was on TV, not knowing there was a movie based on the book. I was watching tv with him. I thought it was great. But sadly my dad sent me to bed before I got to finish watching it. To this day I haven't seen the second half of the movie.

I decided I wanted to read Soul Survivor but at the time I was only allowed to get books at the thrift store and since my dad had lost his copy of the book I had to go looking for a copy of the book. I finally found a copy at a thrift store that I forget the name of. BUT it wasn't any ordinary copy of the book. It was a signed copy which made me super excited to find. At this point of time, I did not read out of signed books. To this date I still haven't read out of it.

I was at a goodwill right after I moved to Charlotte. I found a copy of Brother Odd. I thought it was an awesome concept so I picked the book up. I did not read it at the time because I knew it was the third book, thankfully it said there were two others.

A friend of mine had the four Odd Thomas novels at the time. I asked him if I could borrow them. He took a long time to think about it and he eventually said no.

A few years later which just happened to be this year, I mentioned to my dad, that I had Brother Odd but having a terrible time at finding it at GoodWill. I have almost bought it new a couple of times but decided not to. Anyways dad said told me he would bring Odd Thomas over but he didnt have Forever Odd.

Two weeks later I had Odd Thomas in my hands and LOVED IT. That was back about a two months ago. I have since then read The first 3 Odd books, one of the prequel Graphic Novels and I read Shattered.

I bought a bunch of random Dean Koontz books at Goodwill. I own 19 books by him. Then my dad brought over all of the ones he had which was right over 40 books. He had 3 doubles two I took to keep. I and I gave him back about 10 of them since I already had them or they were doubles and I didnt need two. So I have a ton of Koontz to read now.

I am a big King fan and have read through most of his books, one day I saw a Koonz novel next to a King one and thought I would give it a try, loved it and bought quite a few of the older books after that, since then I have been collecting his books as they come out
Thanks to this group I am now re reading many of his books which I had forgotten about

Anton Yelchin, who is a well-known actor now :-) I find it rather amusing that Patton Oswalt is playing Oswald "Ozzie" Boone :-) I have not seen a release date yet.
