Just for fun, I thought it would be interesting to have a thread where we discuss bad habits we have that we know we shouldn't indulge in. The purpose of this is for fun, not lecture fodder, or ridicule. We're all grown up here. If we knew it wasn't okay to do these things, or didn't feel secret guilt, we wouldn't have listed them. So lets make this a judgment-free zone. No tension, just fun. Please don't feel the need to get deeply personal here.

Things I Do That I Shouldn't

*Stick q-tips in my ear to clean them and to scratch the itching. I have allergies, so my ears itch and get irritated often. I have pretty clean ears because I am always doing the q-tip treatment.

*Read the end of the book to decide if I want to read the book. I am actually doing a lot better with this.

*Sleep-deprive myself to squeeze in that extra amount of whatever before bedtime.

*Turn up the A/C or fan so my room is cold when I go to bed. I can't sleep when I'm too warm.

*Continue to go book-shopping when I have more books than I can read in my lifetime.

*Obsess and worry about things. I wax and wane with this one.

* Keep setting my alarm clock on workdays, because I want to sleep longer

* Eat while watching an exercise DVD or health show.

* Keep adding to my already overflowing book collection.

* Be on Goodreads, when I should be sleeping for work or getting ready for work. (Gotta go!)

Davina D. | 796 comments 1) I probably shouldn't give stupid, small-minded people the time of day but I often do because I'm a strong believer in the quote "evil prevails when good folks remain silent/do nothing".

2) One would think at my age I wouldn't be so naive. I'm too trusting and willing to believe the best about people, thus leaving myself open to a lot of false friendships and being taken advantaged of.

3) I'm too outspoken, but hey at least I wasn't born a coward.

4) I probably shouldn't eat as much sweets as I do since some might consider me "obsessed" with my weight.

5) I probably shouldn't stay up nights and sleep the days away! It's gonna be hell going back to work come Jan 4th on such a schedule.

6) I probably shouldn't spoil my kids with extravagant Christmas presents, but I do it anyway cause I love 'em!

message 5: by new_user (new)

new_user * I sleep late.

* I should answer my phone more often, LOL.

* I drink from the milk carton.

* I procrastinate.

* I can be lazy. :D

* I tend to overcommit myself.
* I like to stay home and avoid social outings.
* I avoid talking on the phone when I can help it.
* When I start a project, I will focus on it until the day turns into night, skip meals, ignore everything else in the world, but what I'm doing.

* Neglect the poet in me. I need to write more poems. I have special poems that I write and I have to get to a certain person and I haven't been doing that.

I do that too, it feels sooooo good. I saw one talk show doctor tell a women that excess wax (I swear I have that) comes from somewhere in your family line were desert dwellers. I don't know of any deserts in Scotland, so I think I'm some recessive gene bastard.

I don't pick up the phone unless someone is crying.

I'll buy almost anything that is $1.

I stack things according to size.

Yes, the q-tip treatment feels wonderful. I have a lot of trouble resisting sales too!
I am a habitual organizer. I put things together according to shape and type.

message 10: by Arch , Mod (new)

Arch | 6706 comments Mod
Even $1 can add up. I like to go to a dollar tree or even an Everything Is A Buck stores. Not just that, when a story has a 10 for $10 sales. I can get things and see how the $1 adds up.

message 11: by Davina (last edited Dec 30, 2009 07:20PM) (new)

Davina D. | 796 comments I spend too much money on shoes, dining out and theatre/cinema tickets.

When its warm out, I'm really bad at keeping up my flower garden. Nobody understands why I even have one. I'm not much of the Martha Stewart type.

I shouldn't take my laptop with me to bed because I never get any work done when I do. I just end up falling asleep over it.

I should stop smoking completely, but I can't seem to. I haven't smoked in over a year but I just know I'm going to have a smoke tomorrow! Arrrgh...

I should stop drinking all together, maybe then I'll quit smoking for good.

I should stop stacking my ever growing TBR on my husband's shelves, but I can't see that changing anytime soon because I'm too addicted to buying books (which I never get around to reading until 2 or 3 years after the purchase date).

message 12: by Aimee (new)

Aimee (facere323) *I do the Q-tip thing, too. When you get just that right spot when it's itchy...it makes me understand why a dog thumps it's foot when you scratch its belly.

*I stay up WAY too late reading because the only peaceful reading time I get is when my daughter's asleep.

*I make excuses to get off the phone when I'm trying to read.

*I procrastinate doing laundry until I'm almost out of clean underthings.

*I re-arrange my furniture almost weekly. It's my way of coping with being stuck in the house all the time.

I'm always behind on reading new books, Davina. Occasionally, I'll read a book right when it comes out. Usually...not so much.
Aimee that is so true. It does make you want to thump your foot. I love when you scratch a dog in the right spot and they get all happy and start thumping their leg or wriggling. Wow. I bet you never get bored with your decor, since you change it around so much. That's a good idea.

Aimee (facere323) I skip meals and make up for it later with cookies and such....the reason I still can't fit back in my pre-pregnancy clothes.

My mother and sister got me started drinking seltzer water. It's got the fizz that is my favorite thing about pop. But it's really just water. I drink a lot of this now, and Italian soda mixed with seltzer for, my evening meals since I have to watch my caffeine after a certain time of day.

I only like cold water. I can't stand warm water. Bleh!

I drink tap water.

I've come to find pop almost too sweet at times. I know what you mean about nasty tap water. The tap water in a few places we lived was undrinkable, so we drank bottled water.

Aimee (facere323) I'm a sweet tea junkie. Not much better than soda. I don't drink water, and I know that's horrible.

I can't do Dr. Pepper but I love me some Diet Dr. Pepper, it's the only thing that taste pretty close the original soda because Diet Coke..."

I've never tried diet...My doctor suggested I switch to that because of the caffeine, but I feel like I'm betraying my bestsodafriend...

message 27: by Christy (new)

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) | 86 comments I'll try it...I trust you.

message 28: by Aimee (new)

Aimee (facere323) Diet Dr. Pepper has always been the most tolerable of all diet soda's, in my opinion. I can also stomach Coke Zero, too. But any diet cola I've had was just, well, blech!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 7331 comments Mod
I don't like Diet Pop at all. Aimee, I love sweet tea, but I've had to dilute it because I've gotten where I can't drink stuff that's too sweet.

message 30: by Aimee (new)

Aimee (facere323) I wish I could say the same. I'm one of those people that drinks my tea extra sweet. Chick-fil-a has that recipe on lock!

I used to love Sweet, Sweet Tea. I don't know if it's because I'm prediabetic or because of changing tastes, I have to dilute it now. I'm a big whimp! LOL.
