As a cartographer, I'd have to argue about some maps...folding street maps like AAA products I agree, should be out. But I'd argue that atlases should stay in. Some are mostly a collection of maps, but also do have quite a bit of written information. Also, maps can portray information much more efficiently than the written word. You can write books about the poverty in Zimbabwe, but a collection of thematic maps can visually display the issue with efficient clarity.

I completely agree, that if they are bound (as in an atlas) then they are books. In fact, I don't think they need any additional text as long as they are formally bound... A book of photographs or paintings may not have any text, but is just as acceptable.
Oh yes! Atlases ARE books. I'm talking about those giveaway folding 1 page street maps of cities and such. Lots of them in the GR database with ISBNs. But I'm leaving most alone, even though they are NOT A BOOKs. Unlike many other items that are NOT A BOOKs, GR members don't seem to be rating them.
Hello, This ( http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/36... ) is listed as not a book. I have this book and I would say it clearly is a book. It has no words, but it is bound with pictures on every page. It is designed to leave room on the pages if someone wanted to write on them, but in my judgement it is clearly still a book. Just thought I'd post about it here.
Angie, that's a tricky one and I can see how it ended up getting marked as Not a Book. Who would you put as the author? It's not Tolkien. Is there an artist listed for the illustrations who could serve as author?
I agree, the author is definitely not Tolkien. The illustrator is Michael Green, that is who I would credit it to, as it is purely a picture book.
JG, That would be my guess, but I'm not finding out what exactly they are. Google does list them but World Cat does not.
Maybe not.
F & C sheets A method of storing printed but unbound books by taking the stock to the stage of folding and collating into a complete book, usually with the endpapers also attached.

Thanks, Rivka. I'm going to combine it with the other editions of that book. If that's wrong, let me know and I'll un-combine them.
Weird, huh? Good thing Google knew what they were -- I never even heard of such a thing before.
I agree, merging them with other editions of the book makes sense. And I think format would be "F & C Sheets" or "Unbound".

I've run across some magazines without ISBNs that were manually added by two different librarians. Since they don't have ISBNs and didn't come from Amazon, is it okay to delete them rather than marking them as "Not a Book" ?I'm feeling a bit timid about contacting the two people myself. I don't want to post their names. I tried to send a message to one of the superlibrarians, but couldn't figure out how to do that.
Thanks,
Cyn
Found this is the Not A Book listings: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16...Here's the WorldCat: http://www.worldcat.org/title/divine-...
Should this remain as Not a Book - or should it be changed back?
