Jaime | 158 comments I like board games. My friends and I sit around drinking and playing Apple to Apples...we also like Scene It (or as we sometimes call it Yell @ the TV.)

I tend to favor card games more though...cribbage and rummy the most.

Sarah Pi, My friends and I go to trivia on a weekly basis...I also suck @ the sports questions...

Christina (christinad19) | 7 comments I love board games, and trying to get my kids to love them despite all the other distractions they have with technology these days.

Carol | 1678 comments We played bar trivia on a team at Hooter's for a couple of years, that was a lot of fun.
Scrabble Flash and Monopoly cards - not sure what that's called - are both fun, fast-paced games, too.

I know there was another game thread somewhere more recently...

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Settlers of Catan is so much fun! You have to buy an expansion though if you want to play with more than a couple of people or it gets really crowded.

Rebecca White (rebecca_white) | 1027 comments I love board and card games. I'm not ferociously competititve, but I like to win if I can.

What Misha's saying about the TP game with Mark Wahlberg - it's funny how often it'll work that way. Once my ex and I were winning and we kept getting all these Charlie Chaplin questions. Our final question was "what hand did Charlie Chaplin carry his cane in." I can't even tell you now, but my ex knew.

my parents have that game with two expansions (one for more players and one with boats and water). we always combine all the versions and have made it into our own version of the game, with our own rules.

We play the regular version or the Cities & Knights most of the time. It's my mother's favorite game, and we play it whenever we're at home. The board definitely gets crowded quickly. Sometimes we play with the expansion even when there are just three of us, just for the fun of not having to fight over land.

message 66: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments we usually play until there's no more places to build towns left (using upside-down boats for towns when there are no real towns left) so we always fight over land.

Sarah | 13814 comments Have any of you played Ticket to Ride? The online version is fun and has a chat function. I'd be happy to play any of you.

message 68: by Carol (new)

Carol | 1678 comments never played it but I'm interested!

You get a few free games. Let me know if you sign up and we can arrange a time to play. My sister and I play and chat.

message 74: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Someone just gave me this game:
http://www.birdcagepress.com/art_shar...

ArtShark! "Collect great art* auction it * hide it* steal it"
I'll need to play it to see if it's any good. The cover has Franz Marc's blue horses on it, and it looks kind of neat.
"auction it - hide it - steal it" sounds a little like you're playing against the Nazis, but I'm hoping it's not like that.

Carol | 1678 comments Just played Settlers of Catan for the first time(s) this weekend. I like it! It's different every time, so that keeps it interesting. I see expansion packs in our future. I think we played 5 games, some took quite a while.

It's a great game. The Cities & Knights expansion has always been my favorite, but I play seafarers on my iPod.

message 77: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments I haven't played cribbage in years, may have to change that.

message 78: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments I used to use cribbage as a reminder of how to perform CPR (15 compressions, two breaths). Then the fuckers changed the rules for CPR.

Carol | 1678 comments Now you just have to do compressions to Stayin' Alive!

Jealous.

message 84: by Riona (new)

Riona (rionafaith) | 488 comments Okay. Maybe you guys can help me ID this board game that I played once about a year ago. I was briefly dating this guy whose friends had a weekly board game night, but they played some pretty obscure ones so I'm not sure how well known this one is.

It was primarily a word game, I think, and had 4 or 5 colors/categories of question cards. I think there was a spinner to help choose letters in some way, an hourglass timer, and pencils and pads for all the players. So, for instance, you might choose a card that said "List animals that end with the letter indicated by the spinner", and spin a "T", and everyone would have to write down as many as they could think of (cat, rat, elephant) before time ran out, and then whoever came up with the most would get a point for the round. I can't remember what the other categories were, but I seem to recall a special form that each player got so that you could tick off when you won a certain color category, and whoever won one round of each first won the whole game (like collecting wedges in trivial pursuit).

I know my recollections of this game are extremely vague, but I remember it being really fun and would love to find it again. Anyone know what this might be?

Caren ~ the misfit geek (caren41) Riona - I seem to remember playing a game similar to this that was called "Scattergories"

message 86: by Riona (new)

Riona (rionafaith) | 488 comments It's not scattergories. I've never actually played that, but I remember one of the other players going "Hey, this is like Scattergories!" when we were doing that color/type of question. There were other types of questions too, though, I just can't remember what they were!

I'm frantically googling now because this is driving me crazy.

message 87: by Riona (new)

Riona (rionafaith) | 488 comments Okay, I think I looked at around 30 lists of board games online and still can't find anything. I wish I remembered more about it. Grrrr. I might actually have to ask this guy, but I haven't talked to him in 9 months or so. Awkwaaaaard.

message 88: by Riona (new)

Riona (rionafaith) | 488 comments Of course, as soon as I posted that I found it! It's called Quickword (review/rules here). It seems like it's no longer made but I found a couple from independent sellers on Amazon, and just ordered one. Yay!

Also, I'm with Larry. I hate board games.

message 94: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments I liked the iron. It sat nicely on the board and the handle was perfect for holding and moving.

I do not remember the ship. Wasn't there a guy on a horse that was rearing up?

Yes. I don't remember it, but:

I can't say I remember the ship either.

I do remember that wheel/broom combo, which I never understood.

message 97: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Yes! That was my favorite piece but it's stability could be precarious if the game turned rowdy. I am fairly certain my game did not have the ship or it was lost before I ever played.

And this was apparently a Howitzer cannon, not a wheel and broom.

See? This is why I should not be allowed to own a Howitzer cannon even given my right to bear arms.

I remember that piece, too. Only I thought it was a loom.
