Well, I am a single mother of three boys (ages 8,7, & 5) living outside of Green Bay, Wisconsin. I love to travel, scrapbook, and of course read. I'm not extremely fond of any particular genre. I like to mix it up and skip around.

I'm working on a degree in Biological Sciences & History. However, this coming fall semester I plan on attending University in Thailand. Don't worry there are plenty of internet cafes for me to use to keep up with GoodReads and our Group here.

message 4: by Zakiya (last edited Jun 03, 2010 06:21PM) (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) I'm Zakiya. I live in TN with my parents and younger brother. I love to text, listen to music, and, as if it weren't obvious enough, read! I don't have a particular favorite genre, but if you were to ask me, I would have to say that I read a lot of Fantasy, so maybe it's that.

I want to go to University of Alabama and University of Alabama Law School. I want to be a gymnast. My biggest goal/dream in life is to become a successful tax lawyer. My biggest achievement so far was when I, then a seventh grader, got 12 awards at my school's Awards Night. I want to be able to travel the world and visit France, Italy, Greece, China, India, Japan, England, Denmark, Spain, Holland, Australia, and a LOT of other places as well.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Sounds like you have my love of travel! We will get along well. When you are a JR/SR you should apply for Rotary Exchange Student. I spent my entire SR year abroad in Thailand. I tell you it was the most amazing year. 10x better then if I stayed here. I highly recommend it and you will learn so much of yourself and of the world.

Welcome to the group Lauren! I'm glad you joined. Will you be reading Uglies with us?

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks - yes, if that's what we decide on. I started reading the first book about a year ago, and it was pretty interesting. And Scott Westerfield is a pretty good author.

Pandy Hi, I'm Pandy (for the purpose of this site). I'm sixteen years old and I live around Phoenix, AZ. I love to read, of course, but I'm not too fond of creative writing. I enjoy fantasy/adventure stories, but I can't really say that I have a favorite genre.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome, welcome... Thanks for joining. Feel free to jump into our challenges, games, and conversation topics at any time. For books read and pages read you can add a topic for yourself. Books read for 2010 is where you can keep a list of books you have completed or want to read, more for personal use. Pages read is a little challenge where we are trying to read 10,000 pages (or more) in 2010.

Aviva (newtimelord) | 551 comments HI! I"M AVIVA! I'm in middle school…somewhere in the US. I LOVE CHEESECAKE. lol. I absolutely love reading and writing. I will try to keep track of my reading for 2010, but its sort of hard and unfortunately I haven't been having a lot of reading time. :( I have already read Uglies and Pretties and Specials and I might read Extras if I ever get around to it. On goodreads, I have over 500 books on my to-read shelf. My fav genres are fiction and fantasy. A few of my favorite books are…well, there are too many to name!

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

I love cheesecake too! Thanks for joining Aviva, you should have fun on with this group. I was surprised how good Uglies was. I have Pretties sitting on my pile of library books that need to be read. I hope I get to it before I have to return it.

message 24: by Aviva (new)

Aviva (newtimelord) | 551 comments That series is one of my favs, but thats not saying much: http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/...
And saying I want to read something isnt very much either: http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/...

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

message 27: by Aviva (new)

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

It is good to learn other languages. I know how to speak Thai, not well not bad. I'm learning how to speak Greek, college classes.

message 29: by Kate (new)

Kate (katemreads) | 225 comments I have a goal to be able to speak fluently in at least five languages. Right now I'm in spanish and will take it at least two more years.

I have an exchange student this year from Thailand! she taught me to count and explained a bit. Its really really confusing and wierd, even more than english! *stares openmouthed*

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

Aviva, That is great. I lived over in Thailand for a year. It is the most amazing place to live. I will be there in May to visit my host families and to look for a college. You can count to 10 in like 10 seconds in English you can't. It get a bit more complicated when you learn Laotian. Many phrases sound so similar. Where is she from in Thailand?

Kate, That is a great goal!! If you learn Latin or Greek it will help a lot. There are so many words that have roots and ending from the dead languages.

message 32: by Kate (last edited Jan 24, 2010 04:50PM) (new)

Kate (katemreads) | 225 comments Yes I know. I'm thinking of doing something in the medical field so Latin would help a lot. We actually have Latin at our school but I took Spanish becuase it could make my pay raise higher and it's used a little bit more in the world. Lol.

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, that is wise.

message 34: by Aviva (new)

Aviva (newtimelord) | 551 comments Our exchange student is from I think it's called Phetaburi or something like that. Phetchasburi?
