Jeana (jeanalovesbooks) | 45 comments Starting The Red Pony by Steinbeck. I have never read this novella and am really hoping this doesn't make me sad.

Linda | 1693 comments Starting (again) to listen to The Nix by Nathan Hill The Nix. I had to return it to the library before I finished it and it has taken so long to get it back, so I will start all over. I don't remember what I read at all. (Unlike The Nest.)

I just finished The Nix The Nix by Nathan Hill on audio. It did take a while with 17 parts! But I thought it was very good. I found it especially interesting that it took Hill 10 years to write the book, and yet it is incredibly current and in keeping with what's going on now politically. He did a great job of wrapping up all the many story lines at the end.

Jeana (jeanalovesbooks) | 45 comments I am reading To a God Unknown, another book in my Quest to read Steinbeck's body of work. Also listening to Brown Girl Dreaming, not sure how I will make out with this since I don't typically read books written in verse.

Have you read Another Brooklyn yet? I haven't read Brown Girl, but loved Another Brooklyn. If you can't get through the verse of Brown Girl, try this one. Not in verse but poetic all the same.

Betsy (ebburtis) | 1291 comments I'm reading The Tempest for my book group which meets Monday. I had read this in high school many moons ago and liked it, we'll see if it stands the test of time - my time that is. Clearly it stands the test of time generally.

Jeana (jeanalovesbooks) | 45 comments Starting a new audio book today, The Good Lord Bird by James McBride. I really enjoyed his book The Color of Water so hopefully this is good, as well

message 2863: by Betsy (new)

Betsy (ebburtis) | 1291 comments Started Moonglow on audio and Breaking Wild for my book group. The author is local and coming to the group. I'm not a fan of that because then I don't feel I can really be honest about the book with the author sitting there. We'll see how it goes.

Good luck! It is really difficult to discuss the book openly, lots of surface discussion and everyone tip toeing through. It is interesting to hear how and why the author made choices or where they found inspiration.

Betsy (ebburtis) | 1291 comments I just started Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk on audio. And I finished my e-book so I now get to pick whether I want to finish one of my many started books, or pick a new one. I love these kinds of dilemmas!

I'm eager to see what you think of Lillian, Betsy! I feel as if I have a personal stake in that book.

I resumed listening to Mischling by Affinity Konar Mischling and I started reading The Orchardist by Amanda Coplin The Orchardist. I'm debating putting that down for a short time to get to something else with a deadline.

A Mother's Reckoning Living in the Aftermath of Tragedy by Sue Klebold Sad but amazingly - well written and objective.

Betsy (ebburtis) | 1291 comments I'm starting a few books at once. I was able to get
Pachinko Pachinko by Min Jin Lee
We Should All Be Feminists We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
and
Difficult Women Difficult Women by Roxane Gay
all from the library today. I couldn't pass any of them up, so I figure I can get through Adiche's in a night (it's very short) and alternate a Gay short story with chapters of Pachinko.

Yes, Nancy, I do. Ever since I read it the first time, I've encouraged anyone I know to read this book. In fact, my boss just finished it, and she recommended it to another co-worker.

This re-read is because of a book discussion. One of the very few books I would consider reading again (because there are too many I want to read a first time).
