No, and I even own the audio. I read one of her earlier books and felt it was a waste of my time. I've been slow to read this one because of my earlier experience despite seeing lots of people give it at least 4 stars.

I started Trump Revealed An American Journey of Ambition, Ego, Money, and Power by Michael Kranish Trump Revealed: An American Journey of Ambition, Ego, Money, and Power. I feel like I'm rubber necking at an accident (I know I should have my mind on my driving but my eyes can't resist the pull of the accident.) At least I picked something that should be unbiased to start (not a hatchet job).

Unbiased? The title sounds a little disparaging. Is it not meant that way?

Good point, Betsy. What I meant was it wasn't necessarily biased before the writing. I took the title to be a summary of the investigation.

Linda | 1693 comments Continuation, Betsy...

at supper last night my husband asked me about the book. I was able to tell him that the book started with Trump's agreement and assistance. After he read it, he disavowed it.

message 2811: by Betsy (new)

Betsy (ebburtis) | 1291 comments Started Swing Time a couple weeks ago. I'm finding it a bit boring. I've made it halfway through and my loan ran out. I'll get it again (after 20 people on the wait list), but I won't be frothing at the mouth waiting for it.

Started Another Brooklyn on audio today. So far, it is beautifully written and read/narrated.

Linda | 1693 comments Evidently I haven't kept in touch! I'm well into reading my favorite mystery author's newest Blind Sight (Kathleen Mallory, #12) by Carol O'Connell Blind Sight and listening to LaRose by Louise Erdrich LaRose

I like that idea. Maybe we can have a thread here about the one book you would pick to read again.

message 2817: by Betsy (new)

Betsy (ebburtis) | 1291 comments I've started a few things:
The Westing Game because the premise intrigues me and I've heard good things about it

Barkskins on audio (it's long and going to take me a while)

The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business for a women's group I just joined.

Another possibility is books we've given a second chance. Two books that I had started and not liked were The Elegance of the Hedgehog and Love Medicine but they were chosen for my library book group so since I am always willing to give books that other people really loved, a second chance I started them again with an open mind. Well, I absolutely fell in love with The Elegance of the Hedgehog and though Love Medicine was a bit of a slog for me, I'm really glad I read it.

Elle (elleisforliving) | 54 comments I started The Daughters of Palatine Hill by Phyllis T. Smith and so far am really enjoying it. I don't normally care for the Roman Empire era but this is a VERY engaging book with each chapter told from a different character's perspective. It flows and you don't want it to end. I can't wait for the weekend when I have more time to read!

Nancy Motto | 450 comments I'm just starting Unwindon audio CD's in my car and Flowers in the Atticon audible for when I go for my walks (though considering temps lately, it may take a while to finish this one). Am taking the train to my sisters in Lititz PA so I'm taking Close Your Eyes, Hold Hands

Nancy, this sounds good....ran out and picked it up at the local library after reading your post. My recommendation for this year's reads would be The Unseen World by Liz Moore . Excellent along with the well-written, and moving memoir When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi . Now onto Gail Tsukiyama's read. Thanks for the recommendation!

I've been to Lititz often. Home of Wilbur Chocolate. Or previous home. Such a cute town.

Betsy (ebburtis) | 1291 comments I recently joined a women's group. From what I can tell it is not a book group per se, but they currently have been reading sections of The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business. So I'm starting that by reading the third section. I've been wanting to read it for a while, so I'll have to go back and read the rest of it at some point.

Jeana (jeanalovesbooks) | 45 comments I am starting two short story collections. I don't usually enjoy short stories but thought I would give these two a go. Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris (heard great things about this author and have never read his work) and Christmas at Thompson Hall and other Christmas Stories by Anthony Trollope (this book is so pretty, how can I not like it?)

I have the Sedaris book on my iPod to listen to in the car. I've had it on there forever and started to listen to it over the summer and I just couldn't deal with the holiday theme in the summer. I need to remember to listen to it now. I may have to put Barkskins on hold.

Elle (elleisforliving) | 54 comments I have just started Redemption Road (on audio) Redemption Road by John Hart a beautifully written North Carolina thriller and am LOVING it. On my kindle I am starting The Second Girl The Second Girl by David Swinson a fluffier mystery/thriller. Believe or not, I don't consider thrillers my genre but apparently it is my new guilty pleasure.

LOL, we all need guilty pleasure reads! I enjoyed Redemption Road and John Hart is an author that always Pre-Reserve at the library when I hear his book is coming out. It was 5 years between his last two books, I hope it isn't another 5.

I like Roth and I liked this one, but I don't think it is his best. I have American Pastoral on my iPod to listen to that's supposed to be really good. I really liked The Human Stain

I'm going to give it 4 stars, Betsy. It's almost 500 pages and criss crosses through 3 different scenarios. It needs to be paid attention to. I started it in April and went gung ho with it for awhile, but needed to move on. I'm intent on finishing it before the end of the year. Shouldn't be hard. I only have 90 pages to go.
