Jennifer, keep me posted on The Known World. I started it a few years ago, but put it back down, because I couldn't get into it and started reading other books.

I hope so, Jennifer. Now that I think of it, the writing was clunky for me, which is why I think that I recall having found slow-moving, and frankly, boring.
I started My Ántonia on audio. Cather can write a setting like nobody's business. The story is good at this point, but it's the writing that is keeping me interested in this one.

LynnB wrote: "Beginning Mistress of the Art of Death tonight."I enjoyed this one. I really need to continue the series at some point.

Started We Are Not Ourselves on audio since it is one of our monthly picks. Anyone else reading this one? It's very good so far.
Hi Betsy, I am just getting ready to start We Are Not Ourselves also. I am glad to here that so far you are enjoying it.
I'm just starting a humorous sci-fi, The Humans. I'm not a big sci-fi reader, so I'm hoping this will be good.
Kathy wrote: "Hi Betsy, I am just getting ready to start We Are Not Ourselves also. I am glad to here that so far you are enjoying it."I haven't finished yet, but it is somewhat depressing - filled with dissatisfaction. But that's the kind if book I like best!
Currently I'm reading non-fiction memoir dealing with aging parents. Can't We Talk about Something More Pleasant?.
I thought I had posted this already, but don't see it in the comments. Started The Girl on the Train. Good from the get go.
I started The Bees this morning on audio. I'm enjoying Orlagh Cassidy's narration and it seems like it will be a compelling, unique story.
i am reading two books right now:* Green Grass, Running Water, by Thomas King
* Love and Other Ways of Dying: Essays, by Michael Paterniti
both quite interesting, so far.
Cathy wrote: "Just beginning All That Is Solid Melts into Air on audio."The storyline sounds similar to A Constellation of Vital Phenomena
. Have you read that? I'd be interested in hearing a comparison.

No, I have not read this, but there could be some similarities in themes. I am enjoying some good writing regarding a dark chapter in Soviet history. I concede I know litte, other than broad historical facts, about Chernobyl. Learning more about history is one of the great things about historical fiction
I will have to take another look at "A Constellation...". It sounds very good.
I've been reading Catherine the Great: Portrait of a Woman which is a easily read biography. I'm enjoying it (though I've had a few interruptions so it's been read off and on at times).
Sera wrote: "I started Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood, and the Prison of Belief."I found this riveting. I think we may have a buddy read on it so be sure to go there and share your thoughts!

We did not have a folder for discussing this, so I set one up. I know a few more of you have read this, so I'd love to know your thoughts.
Linda wrote: "I'm well into Flavia #7 As Chimney Sweepers Come to Dust"I love the Flavia series! So fun to read.

The book I read before this one was only 200 pages yet took me a month to finish. I needed Flavia!

Started Rules of Civility on audio. Also doing a quick reread of Regeneration for my book group. I read this several years ago and really liked it, so it's a pleasure to revisit it. We are pairing this with some World War I poetry as Wilfred Owen, Sassoon Siegfried Sassoon and other wartime poets play significant roles in the novel.
