I just started this one, too, Teresa. I am only on page 26 but enjoying it very much.

LynnB I'm reading The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson as I last read it, and very quickly, in high school. Also I'm reading an ARC of Hold Tight, Don't Let Go by Laura Rose Wagner which is a YA story due to come out in January. It's set in Haiti.

He's such a great writer. Unfortunately, I'm putting him aside and changing gears one more time. Last night my new book group picked the selections for the year and
TransAtlantic by Colum McCann
is up for September, so I need to get that read before I continue with Stegner.

message 2316: by Sera (new)

Sera | 1325 comments Betsy, have you read Crossing to Safety by Wallace Stegner ? I haven't read any Stegner but was told that this book was a good one with which to start.

I read it and really liked it. I read it for a discussion group for a book retreat weekend and not everyone was as enthralled as I was. Stegner's writing is word painting.

I started listening to Landline by Rainbow Rowell

Crossing to Safety is excellent. I also enjoyed Angle of Repose by Wallace Stegner

message 2319: by Sera (new)

Sera | 1325 comments Good to know. Maybe I can fit Crossing to Safety in prior to year-end. Too many books....

message 2320: by LynnB (new)

LynnB I haven't done much reading in the last week. I'm busy painting all the rooms in the house (had my daughter come over the last 3 days to help). I am, however, a couple dozen chapters into Written in My Own Heart's Blood (Outlander, #8) by Diana Gabaldon now. I needed something I could pick up and put down as I had breaks from painting :)

Mary (puzzleress) | 12 comments Just read the summary of the book--wow, sounds really complicated but fun. Will have to try at the beginning of the series, but right now have too many already started.

It is one of those you have to start at the beginning of the series. It has a complicated list of characters, with all the running around between different centuries.

Betsy (ebburtis) | 1291 comments I finally came to the top of the wait list for The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin and started last night. Maybe I'll finally be able to join the discussion of the book during the actual month it's being discussed!

The story sure does pull you in immediately.

message 2324: by Teresa (new)

Teresa I just started The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt yesterday and am about 1/4 of the way into it. I'm a bit apprehensive as it seems people either love it or discard it. So far it has certainly grabbed my attention.

I really enjoyed it, Betsy. Nancy Turner seems to have done a lot of research to get the history correct. This second one is set in 1906.
