Betsy (ebburtis) | 1291 comments Started Daring Greatly How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead by Brené Brown by Brene Brown on audio. Good content so far, but I think the reader is the same one from the book about North Korea that neither Sera nor I liked. This is sort of a cross between a self-help and a leadership/management book. It was recommended by a woman I took a public speaking workshop from.

Looks interesting, Betsy. I hope that you enjoy it. I can still hear the reader's voice in my head :)

message 1815: by Sera (new)

Sera | 1325 comments I started Her: A Memoir on audio. The author is reading her own work, which I often don't like, but so far, it is working here. The story is incredibly powerful and personal, which is why it makes sense for the author to tell it.

message 1816: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cwsmith) Decided it was time to re-read The Great Gatsby before seeing the new movie. Haven't read it since high school (long ago), so this should be almost like a new read.

message 1817: by LynnB (new)

LynnB I'm reading Skeletons at the Feast by Chris Bohjalian . This one's been sitting on my shelves a while, but I had recently read his The Sandcastle Girls and decided I needed get this one read too. I do like his writing.

That's what I just did, Cindy. I hated Gatsby when I had read it college. This time around, I gave it 4 stars.

I've been adding some of his books to my collection when I see them for sale cheap. I do intend to read him at some point, especially since you and a number of others have such praise for his writing.

Just looked it up... The Light in the Ruins by Chris Bohjalian . The (few) ratings are very good so far and the summary sounds interesting. Think I'll be looking for it.

I just picked up the Noa P. book on audio from the library. I probably won't be able to start it until the following week, however, while I finish up Her A Memoir by Christa Parravani , which is fabulous by the way.

Betsy (ebburtis) | 1291 comments Well, I've never seen anyone post a cookbook here, but I'm so excited about my latest purchase, I had to tell someone. The ice cream freezer came out a couple weeks ago and my first batch was Rocky Road. Good enough. For my second batch I went looking online. I had heard about Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream and her unique flavors and technique. The Savannah Buttermint was to DIE for. I'd thought I had found enough of her recipes online to save me from buying the book, but when in the bookstore today I took a look. Oh my, plenty more "must have" recipes and the book is only $2.51 for the Kindle version. The book is beautiful with photos of each step and every flavor. If you make ice cream at home, this one is for you. Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at Home by Jeni Britton Bauer

Please post away - all books are welcome here :)

As a side note, the cookbook does look great, and the price is awesome, too.

Yes, it's a solid read so far. It's my first Atkinson book, and I am enjoying her writing style. I've been trying for years to get to her Case Histories (Jackson Brodie, #1) by Kate Atkinson series, but can never seem to fit it in. I need to keep trying.
