What book did you just start?
Finally started one of those books about books, which I've had on my TBR for a while......
Tolstoy and the Purple Chair: My Year of Magical Reading

Awesome! I am enjoying it so far. Hoping to catch up at some point myself.
Cindy wrote: "Just started The Orphan Master's Son. I also have Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea, queued up on my Kindle as a companion read."Nothing to Envy is a great book. You have a good pairing there.
Laurie wrote: "I just started Painter of Silence
."Laurie, that sounds really good. I haven't heard anything about this book. I've added it to my TBR, so keep me posted on your thoughts.
Laurie wrote: "I just started Painter of Silence
."I added this to my list the other day after reading about it
I am beginning A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty by Joshilyn Jackson. It's a mystery and comedy all together.

I am glad to hear that - so far the feedback has all been good.
Tonight I'm starting
which is my pick for our January book group. I know it's early but I was ale to get it from the e-library. Also starting to read
because it is the 200th anniversary of their publication in December and I thought it would be fun to read them. You can get it as a free download from Amazon since it is a public domain book.

about 5 generations of a familyOh, I'm eager to read this one! Just requested it from the library.
Just started The Swerve: How the World Became Modern
. Accessible non-fiction work -- may alternate reading of it with raading the novel Perfect Reader: A Novel
.
There are some sequels to Lonesome Dove but I don't think they compare. It took me a little bit to get into the cowboy culture but it's really a book about being human.
Sera wrote: "LynnB wrote: "I started Lonesome Dove yesterday. It's a Pulitzer Prize winner."Isn't this one part of a series?"
Yes, it is a series, but this was the first one written. So far it's good, but it's long. I'm in charge of the local Friends of the Library Annual Sale this upcoming weekend, so I haven't had a lot of reading time. It will be nice when it's over!
I'm starting to get into the Western genre. I may need to check Lonesome Dove out. The Chunkster group is reading it now but I am overly committed as it is. I'm going to mark it and check it out down the road. Lynn, I'm sure that the sale will be great! But I understand how you will be happy to get back to your regular schedule :)
Sera wrote: "Nice mix, Lynn! I know that you've been busy. How did the book sale go?"We topped our highest income ever at the sale!! Topped it by $500 and that's pretty good when you're selling used books at $.50 and $1 each. I'm glad it's over for this year, though. It's a lot of work to put on.
while we were away I read 2 books & my mother in law gave this one to me to read...
, very good so far
Having finished the Dragon Tattoo trilogy, I needed something really good to ease the pain . . . Julian Barnes does not disappoint!
