Sera | 1325 comments I started Fly Away Home by Jennifer Weiner on audio. It's read by Judith Light (remember her?) and she is doing a nice job, which so far, is also making the story more enjoyable.

I hope to start Emma by Jane Austen this weekend.

Stephanie Cathy wrote: "I started Swamplandia! by Karen Russell on audio and have begun to read I Think I Love You by Allison Pearson."

I have been hearing a lot of mixed things about both of these books, yet I am interested in reading both of them and am on hold to get the second one on my nook through the library.

LynnB I'm reading an ARC, Reign of Madness by Lynn Cullen Reign of Madness by Lynn Cullen, who wrote The Creation of Eve. I'm really enjoying it. It's historical fiction about Queen Juana of Spain. It comes out this summer.

message 756: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Motto | 450 comments Betsy,
I loved this book but I've been waiting for someone else to read it because the ending is open for interpretation and I like to hear another reader's take on it.

message 757: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Betsy, that one sounds interesting!

message 758: by LynnB (new)

LynnB I really liked it - gave it 4 stars. I was sad and angry about the ending, but I also thought it rang true for what might have happened in that society (I'm being vague here so as not to give away the ending).

I think I read that so many people here liked it that I added it to my TBR list. I'll keep you posted. Maybe we'll have to have a separate thread so we don't spoil it for others.

Patti | 137 comments Just started Say When by Elizabeth Berg by Elizabeth Berg

message 762: by Linda (new)

Linda | 1693 comments I've started Master Manipulator. It's a true story that I had forgotten about that took place in my hometown (Toledo) in the 1980s. It's probably where Bernie Madoff learned the tricks of his trade. It will be a quick read.

message 763: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Motto | 450 comments Linda,
My hometown is also Toledo. Small world!

Nancy Motto | 450 comments I just started A Durable Fire by Barbara Keating This is book two in The Langani Trilogy (The first book is Blood Sisters by Barbara Keating I don't think this series is well known here in the U.S. A friend of mine went home to South Africa for a visit and brought it back with her. It was originally printed in Britain.
The story (book 1) starts in Kenya in 1957, shortly before Kenya's independence from Britain, and follows the lives of three women from very different backgrounds who first meet and become best friends while in boarding school. I loved Blood Sisters and am looking forward to seeing where the women's lives have taken them in the second book. Kenya, itself, is almost another character, as well, and the country and it's wildlife really come alive.

Sera | 1325 comments I'm getting ready to start Bossypants by Tina Fey and The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett .

message 767: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Motto | 450 comments I'm finally reading Pride and Prejudice to which my daughter would most surely say, Finally!!. She's been after me to read her favorite book for a long time now.
One reason that I'm reading it now is that in three weeks I will be going on a Jane Austen walking tour in England for a week. We will be staying the the manor house that was Austen's inspiration for Mansfield Park and visiting her home in Chawton as well as visiting her grave in Winchester Cathedral. I'm so excited I could just about burst!

message 768: by Sera (new)

Sera | 1325 comments Wow, Nancy! That's fabulous - congratulations.

message 769: by Patti (new)

Patti | 137 comments That's so cool Nancy. My daughter is going to do the same tour in England. I just finished Pride and Prejudice this year also. Took me forever, but I liked it alot.

I have started my June book club read.... The Cookbook Collector by Allegra Goodman . I had mixed feelings about whether I was going to enjoy it and I am glad that I am.

Sera | 1325 comments I started Dreams of Joy A Novel by Lisa See yesterday on audio. It picks up right where Shanghai Girls by Lisa See left off.

I'm also starting The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett this week.

message 775: by Cathy (new)

Cathy | 482 comments I started Younger Next Year for Women by Chris Crowley last night and I began My Father at 100 (Library Edition) by Ron Reagan on audio this evening. It's looking like a big non-fiction week for me. Of course, as many of you can relate to, I have a huge backlog of piled up books to choose from if either one of these don't appeal to me.

Nice, Lynn. I am eager to start this series but don't know where to fit it in :) I hope that you enjoy it.

message 779: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa | 17 comments Oooh, I really liked Case Histories. I heard the other books weren't quite as good.

I heard an interview with the author and I thought it was a little odd when the interviewer asked if she had a crush on her main character, Jackson Brodie like Dorothy Sayers reputedly did on Peter Whimsey. Then I read the book and now I have a crush on Jackson Brodie.

Vanessa | 17 comments LynnB wrote:I'm hoping this is a good series, but we'll see!

I'll definitely read at least one more book in the series. I'm just going by one review I read of (I think) the 3rd book. I've had series that I liked even though further books weren't as good as the first one or two.

I'm still wait-listed for TPW at the library and you've chosen another one, the Pickard book, that I have been eager to read. I'm looking forward to hearing your feedback on both of these.

message 785: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Hickman (lbhick) | 986 comments I just finished The Scent of Rain and Lightning by Nancy Pickard and really liked it. It's a perfect summer book. I also finished The Sour Cherry Surprise by David Handler , which was a nice cozy mystery.

I'm working on Bitten (Women of the Otherworld) by Kelley Armstrong , a group read for the Seasonal Reading Challenge group. I'm also reading The Dressmaker of Khair Khana Five Sisters, One Remarkable Family, and the Woman Who Risked Everything to Keep Them Safe by Gayle Tzemach Lemmon one of the group reads for my F2F B&N Nook group. I also have downloaded from the library to my Nook Dead Reckoning (Sookie Stackhouse, #11) by Charlaine Harris the newest Sookie book. I can't wait to start it.

Cathy | 482 comments I am beginning Still Missing by Chevy Stevens . The back cover review touts it as the "not-to-be-missed thriller of the year"(2010). I hope it is better than my last read mystery - The Wrong Mother by Sophie Hannah .

Nancy Motto | 450 comments I'm starting the third book in the Langani Trilogy, In Borrowed Light. I love being able to follow characters over a long period of time. By the third book, I'm beginning to think of the characters as real people. The trilogy which started in 1957, is now up to 1977.

Lisa Hickman (lbhick) | 986 comments I'm reading and almost finished with Changeless (The Parasol Protectorate, #2) by Gail Carriger . It is the second book in the "Parasol Protectorate" series. I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying this steampunk novel. The dialogue is witty and Alexia, the soulless protagonist, is spunky and original.
