Since I left my gallery over 10 years ago, I've just sold by word of mouth. Not made much effort on that, either. These pieces seem to sell themselves. That's gratifying.

Actually, she's my stepdaughter. Two stepsons are 56, biodaughter is 52, bioson is 48.

And I'm 75. Hardly a child bride.

John David (nicholasofautrecourt) What did you get for the pieces, Ruth? If it's not bad form to ask.

And in mine, too. Her mother is dead, so I'm it. And have been for 38 years.

John David (nicholasofautrecourt) Highway robbery on their part, Ruth. I've never seen anything of yours that I'd let go for less than four figures.

Some of my large oil on canvas paintings sold in that region, John. Back when I was still with a gallery in LA, getting reviewed, and making all the required art career moves. Now, I'm just more relaxed about it.

Physics, right? The wave never stops, they say, but diminishes. So to me, it must stop at some point. Then, I flunked Physics. Too much science for one topic, I'd say, and my teacher told me my opinions on the laws of same were all wet, much like Sue Nami's.

So what am I doing up at 3:30 am? About an hour ago a car zoomed up our street, took out 4 parked cars. The driver got out and ran.

Ah well, at least we know know what all the neighbors wear to bed.

Driver zoomed up the street, apparently went through the stop sign at the corner, didn't make the curve, went up on the sidewalk, hit a little old compact car parked across the street from us which carommed 3 houses down the street, clipping Joe's plumbing truck parked across the street on the way. Meanwhile he went up over the planter into Joe's driveway, creamed the corner of his Hummer, shoved the hummer into his wife's car which was also in the driveway. So in one way or another he got all 3 of Joe's cars.

Must have been a slow night at the station. We had 4 police cars here in a matter of minutes.

I'm sure many of you watch streaming video from Netflix. We do too, but only foreign movies. They have the subtitles built in.

With streaming English language movies there's no way to get the same captions for the hearing impaired that you can get with live TV or with DVDs.

We need those captions. The ears are not what they used to be. Only the older actors enunciate properly. I fear that soon Netflix will move to stream all their movies and we'll be left in the hearing dark.

Please sign this petition to Netflix. You don't have to subscribe to do it.

Carol | 10410 comments Our first family outing after the kids return will be Dana Point. We love the Harbor and the gazebo. I would love to have a picnic at Doheny Beach State Park. We will see.
Last month my husband and I were on our way to Dana Point and we were in an accident at San Clemente. A young lady here on vacation was not watching and she side swiped us on PCH.

I know, we have to do that sometime this summer.

@Debs :I expect you will come to have a look around LA on your big trip next year?

@ NE: I guess we will have to have a CR conference in Boston in order to see you

Calloo, callay, oh frabjous day! The power's back on.

I was caught in the massive blackout that affected the lower left hand corner of the US.

Spent all evening knitting by candlelight and listening to our one battery-powered radio.

it takes something like this to make us realize how dreadfully, horribly, dependent we are on Thomas Edison's cohorts. Stores were closed, gas stations couldn't pump gas, flights were cancelled...

Next time I'm out I'm buying more candles and more batteries. The only way we could find out what was going on was through that battery powered radio.

It was nice and dark last night though, with just the light of the moon.

Nice one Kitty! I now leave a fire set in the grate in the other room in case the heat pump fails in a power cut (handy for making toast too)....and I have candles. Might need to get the battery radio though.

message 487: by Carol (new)

Carol | 10410 comments We have a radio that you turn a crank which generates power to run the emergency station. We bought it years ago. Also a crank battery flashlight. I need to get more water in the house though.

Debbie, we briefly considered lighting a fire in the fireplace for light. Then we remembered it was 8 pm and still hot in the house!

Kitty, we have one of those cranky dealies, too. I dug it out. But it was easier to use up the AAs in the other radio.

The remarkable thing about this one is how huge it was. 5 million people in the US and Mexico. And apparently it was started by some service guy in Yuma, who tripped over an extension cord or something.

Makes you realize how fragile our system is.

And vulnerable. To you know who.

Anyway, when you say geographic area, I think of the very bad Doris Day movie "Where Were You When the Lights Went Out?" about the east coast blackout of the 60s. Sadly, I recall it. (Both the blackout and the movie.)

Over the last 40 years I've made a helluva lot of drawings and paintings, especially during the period I was active as a professional artist. I've a zillion slides of my work. Lately I've been posting the ones I have scanned over on Facebook. "So, why not link to them?" said my beady little brain this morning.
