Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) Michelle, that's interesting they charge for books downloaded via nook although it goes away some time later. I would be annoyed if I got charged for a free book. I am planning to go this Friday to get that free weekly book.

Jackie, thanks for that site, let me check it!

message 1402: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Lane (jaxlane) | 126 comments No problem Aths & Donnajo. I get a lot of freebies for my Kindle there and other places, but I noticed they have the Nook. I check it a couple of times a day because a new book can come on anytime and sometimes they disappear as quickly. I think I know another site, let me check and if so I'll post it.

message 1403: by Jackie (last edited Jun 09, 2010 11:54AM) (new)

Jackie Lane (jaxlane) | 126 comments Ok, I found it. There are different "tabs" on the top so that you can get books for different readers, i.e. Kindle, Sony BN & e-Harlequin.

http://ebooks.addall.com/bnfree.html

Enjoy the freebies ladies.

If you need anything else, let me know or send me a PM.

Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) Wow Jackie, you are a mine of free book info! Thanks for the 2nd link as well!

MIchelle, I'll definitely let you know if I download on my nook and get charged. I've only done on my nook so far and haven't had issues at all, though I hate it that you have to have a credit card registered at their site. Makes me double cautious about clicking any buttons.

message 1405: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Lane (jaxlane) | 126 comments You are very welcome Aths. There is nothing better than a "free" book.

message 1406: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Michelle wrote: "Yay, nooks! Donnajo, you can check out Project Gutenberg for free, legal ebooks. Also, if you have a facebook, I would suggest becoming a fan of the nook here because every Friday is "Free Friday" ..."

She gave me 4 of the first vouchers yesterday and the manager when I went today told me I don't need to go into the store to do that. But I still went to download other free stuff. Also got my free coffee and 10 percent off an item. buy of course you know me I couldn't walk out without a bag. I was just going to buy a light for the nook but did alittle more damage. I need to stop that if I'm going to be going there more often.

message 1407: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Well I realized one big thing I need to cut my nails again they gave me problems with the ipod touch when I used it now the screen on the nook is doing the same thing except it could have me spending money I don't want to. I know it does ask to confirm which is good but it's a pain when you are trying to type something in and you don't get the right letter or number. I can't tell you how many time I had to redo because of that already and it's getting old fast. So will have to trim down the nails. :( now if I can only stop playing with the nook and read something or get offline (laptop) and get reading. I haven't read much of anything this month yet. And finished nothing. The book police are going to ban me from the book boards soon if I keep it up

message 1408: by Athira (new)

Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) Lol, Donna! I didn't read much this month either! Only explored the nook, and in spite of all the wonderful books around me, I am reading a crappy one in my nook, just for the experience. Ugh! Why has my world come down to!

message 1409: by Roseann (last edited Jun 09, 2010 08:25PM) (new)

Roseann | 185 comments I am finally back into my regular reading mode and am up to 75 books! I hope to average one a day during the Summer break--so I should be done by August (with 144, but my goal was 300, so I'm behind).

I really have to get either a Nook, iPad, or Kindle (I'm leaning towards Kindle).

Ronda Tutt (rondatutt) Donnajo wrote: "Well I bought a nook today. ..."

Donnajo you can check out 4shared.com as well for free pdf's on a lot of books. I have found over half of my books that was on my wish list in pdf format which I can read on my nook.

Congrats on your Nook. I absolutely love mine.

my only issue with that website and others like it, is that those are pirated copies of books...the authors are not making any money off of them...

message 1412: by Athira (new)

Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) I'm still trudging along! Just managed to finish my 2nd book of the month. I just reached #44. Though I have about 5 books going now. It would be a miracle if I finish one soon!

I wish, Afsana, but my summers are really busy. Our first drag race of the season is this coming weekend, I have another in August, and our Annual Summerfest is the third weekend of July, in which I put the Show 'N' Shine together (that's my baby). Summer and reading for me is the worst time. Maybe I can catch up in November and December, but seeing as my youngest brother is expecting his first baby in November, LOL, I highly doubt I'll be able to get much reading done!

message 1421: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 84 comments Finished another, which brings me to #59.

message 1422: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cmbohn) I am finished! Sadly, my last book was a disappointment -Spinners by Donna Jo Napoli. But I'm officially done. I may keep adding to my list, but it depends how busy I get.

congrats Cindy!

I hit 122 today and have several in progress, so i'm expecting to hit 144 by either the end of the month or early next month...I have the next week and a half off work, and no grad school, which means lots of reading time!

message 1425: by Amy (new)

Amy I finished my 66th book last night and should make the goal of 144 by the end of the year. Hopefully we will have a read-a-thon this month (unless I already missed it), to help me whittle down my large library stack.

i think this months read-a-thon is a bit different and they have given us a few different days that we can do it...I remember seeing a poll on it...

message 1427: by Athira (new)

Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) I read only two so far this month. Right now, I'm reading #47 to #52! Whoa!

I don't know how I missed your post, when I went and commented my reading count. Anyways, Catherine and I sent out 2 different polls because I missed her poll and silly-me didn't check the polls page properly. But the readathon will be on only one day, as usual, and if I'm right, it is on June 24-25. I'll go ahead and create the threads now.

message 1432: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I would think it would be just as easy to read books in the summer as in any other time of the year. But lately it's not working that way. Friday I go to the shore even though I'm there by 7:30am I'm helping my sister or whatever then when we do get to the beach if we go I'm usually people watching or just sitting there. Or if I have a book open I don't get far. I think last summer was my most I did I on the beach. I try and open a book at other times during the weekend if I can. But nighttime when I finally get up to my room I do my computer stuff first then usually can't keep my eyes open to read. Monday I come home again and I'm running around doing errands. Tuesday is usually needlepoint (this coming week I'm going but going to B&N since it's near there and I don't want to go all the way home (45 minutes) then back for the Janet evanovich signing at whatever time that evening so planning on just going and spending the rest of the day at B&N (hopefully I won't do any damage) will have my nook and do some stuff with that. Wednesday I'm home Thursday its' usually WW then doing errands and getting ready before heading back to the shore on friday. This past week I'll play the dr./dentist appts I had so hopefully next week will be better for reading. I have my borders book club on thursday night and I'm only 60 some pages into the book and need to get though it before then. But it's a book that I'm finding hard to read for any length of time. I guess it hasn't grabbed me yet. Hopefully it will soon. I'm trying to pick it up and read a few pages at a time today. Maybe it will move along that way.

Cindy (cmbohn) I love audiobooks for when I'm in the car a lot. I'm listening to The Great Deliverance by Elizabeth George right now and it's been good so far. It's the first Inspector Lynley book.

Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) Afsana wrote: "has anyone set up a section for those who have completed then we can see as people completed and look thru thir threads."

There is a folder called "All Finished" created for this. But it won't be visible until someone creates a thread there. So if anyone wants to post a thread up there, just go ahead and create a new topic, and remember to choose the folder as "All Finished". Choose any kind of formatting you want for your completion post.

Congrats to the winners!! Yay for you!! Now you can read books for people like me who are nowhere near. :D

is there any way to move your current thread to that catogory. and then could also rename the thread by adding finished to the end?

message 1439: by Athira (new)

Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) Sure you can, Afsana.

Beside the title of your post, your will see the "Edit" button. Click on that, and you will see a drop-down list of folders. Just change the folder name to "All Finished". At the same time, you can also add "Finished" to your post title, and then click on "Save".

Sounds like a reading rut and that is never a good thing. Try reading an old favorite. Good luck!

message 1446: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo that sounds like me too. I haven't finished a book yet this month and I've been reading the same two books all month. And the Nora one should be a fast one. So I really don't know what is happening. Blame the heat or maybe being online too much. Tomorrow night is the borders book group I have 170 something pages to finish on that book so going to push for more than 1/2 that today or close to finishing. Then I'll be able to buckle down with reading. I'm at the good part of Nora's book to so that should go fast once I finish the other one. I hope the next book group book is more interesting an grabs me. I feel like the Brooks book is way too much of the same thing. Only so much I can take of reading 1666 Plague.

message 1447: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 776 comments Mod
when i get that, i try to divide my time between the various books...so read one until i get distracted and then move on...but i've always had more than 1 book going at once!

message 1448: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo So do I and at times I think that is why I never finish anything. But with the book group book I have to start dealing with those differently. maybe divide the book up with so many pages a day so it gets finish in enough time. And not at the last minute. I really think I want to skim at this point but probably won't because I don't want to miss something.
If I can try and read more than 76 pages of it today which is half of what I have to read then I think I might be in a good place.

Me too. I'm getting burned out or something. I pick up one book and then pick up another and find I'm reading 3/4 books at a time. In the past I never did this used to finish one book at a time. I'm way behind in my reading.

i can see that...i won't finish anything for a few days, and then i'll have 4 or 5 books i'll finish all at once...so it looks like i read all those books in 1 day when really i'd been working on them for a while
