Yeah I see what you mean about the books being quite different. Enjoy!

message 1202: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (ladyvictoria5) | 98 comments I agree. I don't know what I would do with a good library close by. Actually I have two and they have different emphasis. I'm trying to finish some of the books I have bought in past years so I don't put more than 10 on reserve at a time and watch to be prepared if more than one looks like it is coming up. I should try trading with people but my friends all borrow as I seem to have the best books (perhaps I'm telling them I just read a great book so they ask. I seem to have read all their best books.)

Mary (madamefifi) Wow, the first week of April has been spectacular! I have read 7 books and am almost done with my 8th! Poor husband, he doesn't even bother asking "What's for dinner?" on my days off because every night has been make-your-own-sandwich night!

I'm so spoiled. My 20 year old daughter lives at home. She has found the joy of cooking, is a wonderful cook, and cooks dinner 4-5 nights a week. Hubby and I split the other few. I'm with you: I'd prefer a good book. When I was 20, I loved cooking but, 30 years later, it isn't as much fun on a daily basis.

message 1205: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo My library get's books from all over so I never know where the book is coming from. That is when I reserve a book. Sometimes I am surprised how far it came from. But it does take forever or seems too. I started a border's book club book The women by T C Boyle I know that will take forever to get though but I figure I read alittle bit each day and hopefully it will be done for when needed. And I'll still have my faster books going along. Today I'm trying to push myself to go pick up a salad someplace and go to a park close by and sit and have a picnic lunch and read. Now if I'll only do it.

I did this one on audio too and I loved it. I found I started to create chores around the house just to keep listening.

message 1219: by Cammie (new)

Cammie I'm not going to reach 144. I stopped counting. I might have read 25 so far.

message 1222: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (inexplicablybookish) Well folks, I finally managed to finish book number . . . drumroll please . . . 11! today.

It was a book I totally enjoyed and wanted to read but for some reason the past few weeks I've been SO A.D.D. about everything (I think stress at my job is making me unable to concentrate) I just could not get through it fast. Should have been a 1-2 dayish read. Instead it turned into weeks.

But I finished it! And I am managing to squeeze in more reading time at work (like, I'm actually taking breaks and lunch! Gasp!) and once again going to make attempts to refocus and read more (instead of just vegging out to Facebook games and TV every night). Next up on my list is [image error] and I'm sssssooooo excited to read it I imagine I'll breeze through and get some of my "fast" reading mojo back.

Hope everyone is going well with their April goals and their 144 totals!

message 1223: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) I just finished #57. #58 is The Killing Edge

I can't wait to read it either! I loved the first one so much I started to search for other steampunk novels to read. I had read graphic novels and seen movies in this genre but this was by far my favourite. Unfortunately, it looks to be pretty unique. I'll have to see what the others are like.

I just hit the halfway mark for my 144. Only 72 to go!

message 1228: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 84 comments I finished #42, #43 and #44 since my last post, so I guess within the last week. All three were really good.

Salvation in Death, On the Steamy Side and Full House.

message 1229: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wldinnis) I am reading #47 Glory in Death by J.D. Robb.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 158 comments Wendy wrote: "I am reading #47 Glory in Death by J.D. Robb."

I liked that one Wendy.

message 1231: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I'm so behind on reading J. D. Robb's books need to pull the next one out soon. I think my problem is that I read a book that was ahead in the series that had two stories in one. With Nora and that kind of messed up knowing what was going to happen. I really read series in order or at least try to most of the time. I know a few authors like Patricia cornwell, James patterson or even if I went back to reading Jonathan Kellerman years ago I didn't read in order so now some of those earlier books are unread in hc on my bookcase.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 158 comments I've been fervently avoiding any of the In Death books after the next one in the series. I know that if I take one home, the temptation will be too great and I'll give in to my baser instincts. So some harmless caressing at the library or a bookstore but nothing further. Always with plenty of people around so I don't get carried away and actually read anything. ;-P

BTW, finished #62 this morning. (yeah me!)

message 1233: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wldinnis) I am working on #49 right now, another In Death book. It is due back at my library at the end of the month and I would like to get it done so I can request some more :)

message 1234: by Donnajo (last edited Apr 16, 2010 07:38AM) (new)

Donnajo okay what is happening people are passing me up again. Have to get offline and start reading. I was thinking of a trip to borders today but do I really need another bag of books. Maybe I better go hunting though my own books that are in bags (that still can't fit on the bookcases) to try and find the ones I keep saying I'll read sooner than later. I need to read more than 12 this month so far 7 for the month and 51 for the year. And I just looked which JD Robb book is next for me and it's Ceremony in Death so as I said alittle "behind". .
Okay now getting right offline and going ahunting in the bags of books in my extra bedroom.

message 1235: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I just checked 38 books read last year on this date and already this year I'm at 51 so at least I'm doing better for the year's count.

I'm proud of your self-restraint. And I agree that you should have witnesses around anytime book caressing is going on. Safety first.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 158 comments Donnajo wrote: " ...so as I said alittle "behind". . "

First, rarely do we NEED to buy more books. But we likes it we do! I say support our authors and publishers.

Second, 'getting a little behind' is always an acceptable excuse for reading less. Like my wife likes to ask, 'are you going to stay up and pay attention to that book, or come to bed and pay attention to me?' Funny, I don't even miss the reading time.

Obviously you picked the right choice to ensure staying married and in one piece. If you answered, "pay attention to the book" you might not have made it to being able to write in this blod.

Hi

Donnajo you are ahead not brhnd in hitting the 144 target or did you mean your own target?

message 1240: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Jim I agree with Donna. You picked the right answer. LOL.
I don't have anyone to pull me away from my books. Maybe someday.
As for the borders trip. Funny story there I went out then when I got home found in the mail box (yesterday's mail should have gone before going out) there was a card that something was waiting at the post office for me. knew what it had to be. The cd I ordered at Borders a week or so ago. So back out to pick it up. Then I couldn't resist getting on the highway and going up to borders. But got a few discounts so got lucky with savings. 7 more books to the piles.
As for being behind. I'm glad I'm ahead in my year total this year from past years. I'm not happy with my monthly totals because I wanted them higher each month then they used to be. I know that kind of sounds strange. I'm doing 12 or more but I would rather do 15 or more. But then it's probably the books I pick. Some take me longer especially if they don't grab me right away. Plus I seem to have too many books going at the same time so that might not help at times.
My new books will be listed with the others from April new under my bookcase here at good reads. If anyone wants to friend me you can check them out.

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) Wendy, let me know what you think of that one. I just read it a couple of days ago and I really liked it.

message 1248: by Toni (new)

Toni | 50 comments I finished book #36. So I am still a bit behind playing catch up. Trying to read a book every 2 days or so. It is hard when some of them are long so I find myself picking shorter books to catch up (or I read a long book and a shorter book at the same time alternating reading).

message 1249: by Athira (last edited Apr 20, 2010 08:45PM) (new)

Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) I will be starting #31 tomorrow. I'm glad I got some good reading done this month!

message 1250: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Pushed myself late yesterday to stick with one book and I made good progress. So if I try and finish it up later this morning when I get home before starting the library book I'll be able to finish it. I might have maybe around 80 pages left to read. taking it with me this morning to the dr maybe I'll be able to kick out a few pages before I get called in.
