I was thinking of using Pilate's Wife A Novel of the Roman Empire and Year of Wonders for this task. They're both sitting on my bookshelf so that's a plus. I love historical fiction so this has to be one of my favorite tasks yet!

If anyone wants a different time period I can recommend the Boudicca books by Manda Scott. I've only read the first one but it was great.

Also, the Arthur books by Bernard Cornwell are fabulous (can't remember the order but I think there are just three):
The Winter King A Novel of Arthur
Enemy of God A Novel of Arthur
Excalibur A Novel of Arthur

And also on the Arthur theme, Mary Stewart's series is an absolute classic:
The Crystal Cave
The Hollow Hills
The Last Enchantment
The Wicked Day

Stopped at the library today and picked up The Heretic's Daughter and Innocent Traitor A Novel of Lady Jane Grey. I could have picked up at least a dozen novels for this task. But I will be reading more historical fiction for other tasks. I really enjoy learning about other times.

Oh goodness, I hadn't thought about using Year of Wonder for the "aids" task. I might have to rethink this and use it there. Either way I'm planning on reading it! It's not like I don't have some other good historical fiction I could substitute here.

Yes. Even if the time periods were close, the settings are in different countries.

In post #7, Lisa defined historical fiction as any book published or set in a time prior to 1945. I'd say Beowulf qualifies.
