You techies... Me, I'm happy with my Ma Bell dial phone and basic Mac computer.

Oh, NE. You just like being an old fogey. Just imagine if you could do almost everything you do daily with your Big Mac, and do it while sitting by the window in an easy chair, with your feet up.

I'm just afraid I'd spend all that money and like it as little as I do the Kindle (which, were it wood, would have been used as kindling by now).

I use the iPad every single day, starting with checking my email before I get out of bed in the morning. I seldom use the Kindle.

Please. Electromagnetic fields wreak havoc on the human body. Recharge it in another room and sleep peacefully!

message 110: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (bonfiggi) I've seen young ladies carry cell phones tucked into the bra. Maybe not so different from a pocket, but I wouldn't do it.

message 111: by Carol (new)

Carol | 10410 comments A nice thick head of hair you have too, Richard.

Haven't heard that term for the haircut (the two short haircuts when I was a kid were a "butch" and a "crewcut"), but I like it. With good memories of many a whiffleball game in the back yard, we'll be waiting for your news in the coming week.

message 114: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (bonfiggi) Thinking of you. XXX

message 115: by Susan (new)

A new lease on life is a good thing to have, especially after being bedeviled by worry. Great news, Richard. Rest and read, is my prescription...

message 120: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (bonfiggi) Just the little bit of anesthesia I had for simple cataract surgery wiped me out for 2 days. You need lots of time to rest. Reading isn't easy in your circumstances. I say thank god for TV, it won't hurt you. Much.

message 121: by Carol (new)

Carol | 10410 comments Richard , that is wonderful news. That is the best gift you could ever get. I have survived a malignant cancer, and you always get nervous when you have an abnormality. It has been nine years for me and counting. You won't want to do much as yet, but look out world Richard is back in business.

For you, Richard. One free ticket to veg out in front of the TV for as long as it takes.

(My husband says he can always tell when I'm sick. That's the only time I watch TV in the daytime.)

Hmn. Nothing like a little Wilderness Campaign for its calming qualities. McClellan's funny, too. But none of it can compete with tomorrow's exciting BC vs. Red Sox game (on NESN, I fear).

Good to have you 90% back.

message 124: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (bonfiggi) Doctors don't usually make pronouncements like benign unless they are pretty damn sure it is. I would be anxious also though, in your place, can't be helped I guess.

message 125: by Carol (new)

Carol | 10410 comments I loved the Ken Burns documentary. I think Joanne is spot on, Richard. Your guy seems to have performed many of these surgery, so he is well acquainted with cancer cell toxiology and biology.

Seriously, Richard. As one who has had a malignancy (not the meningioma) it's wonderful that you will be free not to interpret every twinge as the dreaded return.

What a relief!! Now go and do all the things you were starting to regret not doing!!!

message 133: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (bonfiggi) I have a lot of backyard drama with squirrels stealing bird food, hawks circling, and wild parrots flying by. Amazing how much housework can be avoided, watching all this.
I'm so glad you feel better.

Carol | 10410 comments We came home one day to one of these vultures dining in the middle of our street. We live in a city, although the house backs up to a flood control channel.

I can watch the turkey vultures circling in the onshore breeze. In the air they sure look prettier than these. Very graceful.

Carol | 10410 comments How about: you are in charge of dinner tonight. I'm not cooking.

Anyone else care to try?

message 137: by Carol (new)

Carol | 10410 comments Yes ma, but I can't stand the thought of eating raw meat.

message 138: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (bonfiggi) Capote said he'd like to come back as a buzzard because, "Buzzards are nice and free. Nobody likes them. Nobody cares what they do. You don't have to worry about your friends or your enemies. You're just out there, flapping away, having a good time, looking for something to eat."
So maybe one of them is whispering something awful about Gore Vidal.

Got mine from someone who had been an agent here and was selling off old stock.....about half price!

message 143: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (bonfiggi) I'm a lefty, (yes, that kind too) and in grade school in New England we had inkwells in the upper right desk corner, and ugly black pens. I had to reach across to dip the pen, then my chubby little hand smeared everything I wrote.

message 144: by Ken, Moderator (new)

Fountain pens. Don't they explode ink?

message 145: by Carol (new)

Carol | 10410 comments Richard , thanks for the good wishes. I had a lovely day with my family. I know your mother had reason to celebrate. Hope her day was special also.

message 146: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (bonfiggi) Hi Richard, Too hot here to do much but read. Anyway, that's my excuse.

message 147: by Carol (new)

Carol | 10410 comments Mine too, Joanne. Although you are more inland than me. Let's go to the beach.

message 148: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (bonfiggi) Sounds good Carol, if I could be magically transported there. I hate the traffic.
