"Zach doesn't have a sister." Susannah said.
"I know." Sabrina said, smiling mischievously. "But my mother doesn't."

"You're lying." Susannah said. "You bite your nails when you lie."
Sabrina looked at the nail she'd been chewing on and blushed, folding her hands in her lap. "I don't know what you're talking about." she muttered.

Sabrina walked to Alek's house and knocked on his door.

"I'll feel up to anything you want," Jacob said, if you want to dance I'll dance, if you don't I won't."

"Jacob," Susannah groaned. "You're the one who's been injured and just got better. You should pick what we do when you get out."

"Talk about what?" Alek said pulling the door open. "The same stuff we talked about a month ago after I almost killed you? Let me hit the highlights for you." He pointed to himself: "Bad idea." Then to her: "But I trust you." Himself: "You shouldn't." Her: "There's just something trust worthy in your eyes. You look like someone who done bad but is trying to change. Is that it or did I miss something?"

Sabrina glared at him and angry tears swam in her eyes. "Well if you're not going to take me seriously Alek, then just forget it. Forget Friday, forget everything." She turned, wiping at her eyes with the backs of her hands frustratedly as she walked away, "And you did leave out one thing;" she added as she walked. "I'd decided to forgive you."

"Then let's go to the dance," Jacob said, it'll be fun.

"See how easy that was?" Susannah said. "We're going to a dance. I don't mind. It's fun level, however, could be debatable."

"Sabrina," Alek said, catching up with her at right where path turned to sidewalk and grabbing her arm gently.

Sabrina stopped. "You can be really cruel, you know that?" she said softly, not looking at him. "The way you take things I had to swallow a lot of pride to say and spit them back out condescendingly or mockingly, like they mean nothing and are only part of a broken record. And it hurts me. A lot. And that annoys the hell out of me, because I don't usually let people get to me so badly, but with you I can't help it. And I'm doing my best to articulate a feeling I've never experienced before, but all you do is contradict and challenge and make it sound stupid. And it hurts." By the time she was finished, Sabrina was openly crying, unable to hide it anymore.
