"No change," Jacob said.

"Have you tried talking to her?" Christian asked.
"Not really," Jacob said, shaking his head.
"Sometimes they say it helps if they can hear the voice of a loved one. Helps them find something to come back to." Christian said.
"Well I'll try anything," Jacob said going into his room, where he had put Susannah.
Jacob sat down on the edge of the bed and picked up Susannah's hand. "Hey baby," he said gently. "I... well I'm not really sure what to say. I'm just hoping you wake up soon."
Christian took a lock of her hair in his hand and bent down, looking at it closely.
Christian shook his head. "Nothing right now. I thought it looked darker for a minute, but I guess it was just a shadow."
"Any number of things could be wrong." Christian said.
"Like?" Jacob pressed, getting worried.
Christian shrugged. "She might not have enough nutrients, she might not be getting enough oxygen, her power - the only thing keeping her alive right now - might be leaving her for whatever reason, or she could be slipping away."
"Half of those are really bad!" Jacob panicked.
"Yeah." Christian said. "This whole situation is really bad. She's not out of the woods until she wakes up. Until then anything can happen. She was really, really lucky. There is absolutely no reason she should even be alive right now. 9 out of ten firestaters succumb to ice through the heart."
"You are not I spurring confidence here!" Jacob snapped.
Christian sighed, "All I mean is, don't take it for granted that she's still breathing. Stop focusing on all the bad things that could happen or how long she's been out and just focus on the fact that she's still here and she can hear you. Even though it's easier said than done, you need to stop worrying so much. You've done all you can for her right now." he said. "Well, except talk to her." he added. "I think she could benefit from hearing your voice."
"Anyway," Christian said, patting Susannah's head affectionately. "I guess I'll go. See you soon, Susannah, Jacob," he said, heading out.
"Bye," Jacob said, not leaving from Susannah's side. Once he heard the door shut a tear slid down his cheek, and then another and another. "Please, Susannah, please," he whispered. "Please wake up. Just for me. Open your eyes and be ok."
Susannah's hand twitched almost imperceptibly, otherwise there was no change.
Jacob pressed his forehead against hers and continued. "I know you're in there; and Christian says you can hear me so listen to me. Listen to the sound of my voice and follow it back to me."
Susannah's eyes moved behind her eyelids, almost as if she were stuck in a deep dream, the first sign of semi-consciousness that she'd shown in days.
"Please," Jacob begged. "I need you. I've been through too much to loose you know. I love you too much."
Susannah slipped away again, any signs of consciousness gone, stilling, her breathing becoming shallower.Susannah was aware that she had to get. . .somewhere. She was sitting by the lake, and whenever she looked around, flashes of people - memories? - would appear and disappear, always a redheaded girl and a black haired boy. She was so focused on identifying these two people that she frequently forgot where she was going, or why she was in such a hurry to get there, and eventually it faded into unimportance again.
Jacob took out his phone and called Rebecca. Rebecca answered without looking. "What?" She grumbled.
"I need you to cone over and put me back in Susannah's head. I can't just sit here and wait anymore."
"Alright I'll be there in a few minutes."
"What is it?" Zach mumbled, still half asleep from their late night before.
"Jacob," Rebecca said. "Susannah still isn't awake and he's worried." She sat up and groaned, her whole body was sore, but she didn't mind. Each aching muscle was a reminder of Zach against her just a few hours ago.
"'Kay." Zach said, sitting up and yawning. He moved to get his clothes, got his foot tangled in the sheets, and tripped and fell. "Damn." he said, surprised, sitting up again. "I'm still exhausted."
"Yeah well f***ing the way we did last night I'm hot surprised," Rebecca said. She moved slowly and unsteadily to the closet to get some clothes.
"I find it surprising." Zach said slipping on his clothes from the day before.
"And why is that?" Rebecca asked taking off the clothes she'd slept in and putting on just a regular t-shirt and jeans.
Zach shrugged. "Just didn't expect it." he said.
Rebecca smiled and kissed his cheek. "Well come on," she said. "Let's go see Jacob."
Rebecca teleported them to his house and knocked. Jacob opened just a moment later and let them in.
"Alright, now I'll try sending you in, but last time we had to get my dad to do it and I don't think I could get him to help again," Rebecca said. "So we'll see what happens."
Jacob nodded, leading them to his room.
"Okay, well you know the drill. You should probably lie down so you don't fall and hurt yourself once you're no longer consciously controlling your body. And don't die."
Jacob lied down on the floor and Rebecca knelt down next to him. She put a hand on either side of his head and after trying a few different spells succeeded in sending Jacob into Susannah's mind.
Susannah was staring at a spot of grass intensely, the last place an image of the couple had appeared trying to decide why it would be there, in a world she knew contained nothing.
Jacob walked over and sat beside Susannah. "What are you doing here?" He asked. "Rebecca said when she saw you, you were on your way home."
"Home?" Susannah said. "I vaguely remember something about someone telling me to go somewhere." then she shrugged, "But things slip away from me so easily here, it doesn't really matter. Nothing belongs here." she turned to look at him. "So what are you doing here?"
"I was worries about you," Jacob said. "So I came to get you."
"Are you are?" Susannah asked, focusing on his face. Her eyes widened, "Him." she said. "The one. . .with that girl."
"I'm your husband," Jacob said, putting a hand on hers.
Susannah snatched her hand back. "No." she said. "You're him." she added, pointing a few feet away where an apparition of them laying on the grass holding hands was. It lasted a second, then slipped away like smoke.
"Yeah I am," Jacob said. "And that was you."
That was her. . .all the time she'd spent trying to figure it out, that thought had never crossed her mind. If that was her, then. . .and suddenly several things came back to her at once, connecting in a way they hadn't when Rebecca had come, and sticking in a way they hadn't then either. Back at Jacob's house, Susannah suddenly gasped, her eyes flying open and she struggled to catch her breath, gasping for air in a panic, the last image coming to her before she woke up being Adrian plunging a piece of ice into her chest.
Jacob awoke in much the same way. The abruptness of her awakening throwing him violently back to his body.
Susannah sat up suddenly, the motion causing a headache so bad it shoved her back against the bed and she groaned.
Jacob got up and sat beside. "You okay?" He asked. "Welcome back to the land of the living," Rebecca said.
susannah moved and put her head in his lap, "A killer headache, but otherwise I'm fine." she said.
