Abigail | 315 comments I'm so excited -- two of the books I really want to read have already been mentioned here.

Wanted to add one more for others, too. I have been *loving* Shannon Hale's Books of Bayern series (gave a five-star rating to the first one, The Goose Girl), and they all have a map at the front.

25.9

Part B would Cathy's Book If Found Call (650) 266-8283 by Sean Stewart be ok? It's in the format of a teen's notebook/sketchbook. The book is an interactive mystery with sketches, notes, and also clues to help solve the mystery.

I have that book too - definitely ok.

Kate (klc23) | 161 comments Would a timeline and a cast of secondary characters count as extras? I'm thinking of The Monster of Florence. It's not a play, so I think a timeline and cast are not that common. For anyone else who's interested, there's also a map in it.

works for me!

Sarita | 78 comments The Tale of Murasaki by Liza Dalby has maps in it. I'm reading this for the island task (set in Japan).

message 58: by Amy (new)

Amy Would additional resources or a list of other books on the topic in a book meet the second criteria? For example, I have a non-fiction book I've been wanting to read with several appendices with additional information - lists of resources, lists of books, etc.

message 59: by Deedee (new)

Deedee | 2344 comments Wicked Game by Jeri Smith-Ready has a Playlist of 40 songs printed between the Acknowledgements and Page 1 of the story; would that count for Part B?

Also ... what about books with recipes? Would the recipes count as "extras" for Part B?

no - no bibliographies or works cited. I want something that really adds to the book you are reading, not future reads.

yes to both

message 62: by BJ Rose (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 811 comments I just finished one that I'm using for #15.4 Fun & Games, but it would work for Part B: Death by Sudoku A Sudoku Mystery has sudoku puzzles salted throughout the story, and has more puzzles with solution keys at the end.

message 63: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (writers_soul) I was wondering if I am Regina would count for part b of this challege because it has a few pages in the back of the book where it tells you how to get more info. about the places in the book.

Hi, i am not familiar with the book, but based on your description, it sounds similar to the idea of a bibliography or works cited page, so I would have to say no. i want something that adds to the experience of reading THIS book, not future books.

If i have misinterpreted, let me know.

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 1256 comments Abigail! I have Goose Girl listed for my Alliteration task! Glad to hear you like it. Makes me excited to read it!

message 67: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I know The Lost Symbol would work for part B of the task, but would it also work for part A? It contains a map of a government building. I was hoping to use it for A because I found another book I would like to use for B.

Can it be any sort of map, or are you looking for "inside-the-book-covers" land maps?

Thanks!

message 68: by Bridgit (new)

Bridgit | 505 comments Hi Stephanie - any kind of map works. Lost Symbol would be fine for either part. Enjoy!

Krista (kacey14) For those of you still looking for a book for Part B, I just ran across a copy of
The Book Thief yesterday and I remembered that it had all those fantastic drawings, etc. in it.

This was one of my favorite books from 2009!

Sally (sallysimply) | 537 comments Hey Bridgit, I was flipping through my copies of Maus I & II today, and I saw that they each have a couple of sketches of maps in the book and they both have a map of Poland on the back cover. Would these work for part A?

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1114 comments Could I read The Year Of Secret Assignments by Jaclyn for part 2? It's written in all different formats: letters, emails, journal entries, notices (tacked to a notice board), transcripts (of a "trial"), legal declarations, etc. It has a ton of different fonts, and some fun pictures (although they're mostly like an envelope or a clipboard or a notebook or a diary, to indicate where the part of the book is coming from.

Anyway, let me know! Thanks!

Tara I was looking at The 19th Wife A Novel. I was wondering since it contains real documents and letters throughout the book if you would consider that extra content?

Hi - this isnt really what i am looking for if it is just part of the normal text or sort of inserted ala photos of people in biographies/histories. If they are incorporated into the text with innovative graphical elements or font usage, sure. I'll trust your judgement since I dont have the book.

message 79: by Kristina (last edited Dec 17, 2009 09:44AM) (new)

Kristina | 283 comments Bridgit- Could I use the Spiderwick Chronicals for your task? They aren't very long (100-130 pages each), so, I was wondering if I could read the whole series (5 books) to qualify for one or both parts of the task. Thanks!

Sarah (Mood Reader) (bookworm1887) | 458 comments Would With This Puzzle, I Thee Kill work for part B?

Thanks for responding. After your explanation, I don't think it is right for the task. Thanks for clarifying it for me. :)

Sarah, I dont have the book, so if it has a map - then yes. If it is for part B, can you tell me what extra it has?

kiki (keekers) | 815 comments fyi, The House at Sugar Beach A Memoir has a map AND a family tree in it, if people are still looking for books for this challenge.

message 87: by Kristina (new)

Kristina | 283 comments Thank you, Bridgit! Each book has a map and in the middle of each book there are photocopies of extra evidence that the kids find.

Kristina | 283 comments Bridgit- I enjoyed your task immensely! I read The Spiderwick Chronicles and The City of Ember (a great read).

Jan (the Gryphon) (yogryphongmailcom) | 223 comments I read The Orion Nebula Where Stars Are Born by C. Robert O'Dell for the Dewey Decimal task and then found that I had gotten the wrong number. There are star maps in the book. Would this work for part A?

Rebecca (thebookhangover) | 46 comments I just finished reading The Sea of Monsters and found that at the end of the book there's a short guide to the greek gods and Percy's summer camp report card. I was wondering if this would work for the Extra Content portion of this task?

message 95: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I bet you are loving all of these postings!

I am reading a book right now (a cozy mystery about scrapbooking) that has recipes and scrapbooking tips in the back. Would this count as extra content related to the book? Thank you!

message 96: by Bridgit (new)

Bridgit | 505 comments Yep - Recipes will count, assuming they are actually made in the course of the book by one of the characters.

message 97: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey (mamamunky) | 185 comments I'm reading The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. It's a sort of mystery in which an authoress and her fairy tales play a big part. The fairy tales are included in the book, so would this count as bonus content?

message 98: by Katy (new)

Katy | 790 comments For part B of this task, what about Revenge of the Spellmans? It's a (hilarious) mystery novel but it contains (among other things) transcripts of phone calls and surveillance tapes, many footnotes, and an appendix with a dossier on each main character and lists of various things referred to in the book (like ways to waste time in therapy). Would that work?

This doeant seem to be what I was looking for - seems like it is just part of the overall book, but if I am wrong, you can probably convince me.

Katy - this sounds ok. should work fine.

message 100: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey (mamamunky) | 185 comments Yea I guess you're right. I'll find another book for this task :-D
