Robin Lamont | 4 comments Hi Vincent - thanks for starting this! Hope to connect with many other authors and readers.

I'm Robin Lamont, author of "If Thy Right Hand" which won the 2012 Gold Medal in the Independent Publishers Book Awards. I also just released a new book called "Wright for America" which is a satire on conservative talk radio.

My last book takes a bit from all my previous careers: Broadway actress - private investigator - and prosecutor. It was so much fun to put them all together, along with some of the wild characters with whom I worked.

Really enjoy making contact with readers and learning from other writers. Thanks for this opportunity!

Hi Vincent, Thanks for starting this thread. I am Julie Lowe and I have been writing on scraps of paper for years! I have published two books on Kindle about 'prepping'/survival, and I am just finishing a thriller and a childrens book. Obviously I write when the mood takes me! I am keen to know about services to writers like formatting for ebooks and illustrators. I prefer recommendations to web browsing. I have one room at home which is my whole life. It is lined with books. I love reading and welcome reading suggestions. regards to all. Julie

Lawrence (lawrencewray) | 17 comments Hi everybody

I'm Lawrence and my first book will be available on Amazon on 9th December.

It's a crime novel about a guy who prints counterfeit money, gets caught by the police and then has to start up printing again (before he is even sentenced) to keep in with the police and the gangsters who he was printing the money for originally. Police want to catch the 'Mr Big' behind the distribution.

I was interviewed on Tuesday by the Sunday World and I'm getting a double page spread in this weekend's edition.

Based in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Vic Heaney (vic_heaney) | 17 comments I am Vic Heaney. I have been a voracious reader all my life (I had read everything on my parents' bookshelves when I was 10. I have always been a writer and had articles published over many years (I am 72 years of age).

What spurred me into writing books was Vic's Big Walk. What spurred me into Vic's Big Walk (from the Pyrenees to the North of England, at age 70) you can find out only by reading my first book:

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15...

My second book, Living In The Real Cyprus, is about just that, and how different many things are from what the casual visitor sees:

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16...

All proceeds of both books (and other, forthcoming books) go direct to pancreatic cancer research.

Lawrence (lawrencewray) | 17 comments Hi Vic

I too have been reading all my life, and from what I can gather from your comments, you have also had some experience with cancer in your life.

My book is out next Sunday on Amazon. It's about counterfeiting and cancer and half the proceeds from the Amazon sales will be going to the Cancer LifelineNI charity.

You can see my blog about cancer (not writing) at www.lawrencewray.co.uk.

I admire what you're doing.

message 4116: by Lu (new)

Lu (luul) Hello Everyone

My name is Lee, but I write under the pen name L.M. Steel.
Well I say pen name, next year after my civil union it will be my name, I'm just pre-empting.

I am very new to this, although I've been writing for as long as I can really remember, I always tried holding out for the publisher or agent to accept my MS. Now I'm taking the steps myself.

I'm from a little town called Sowerby Bridge in West Yorkshire, England. It is the setting for both of my stories that are out at the moment: Judged By Your Peers which is a bit 'chick lit' I guess and then my latest one Once Upon A Set Of Wheels.
It's actually a two part story which I wrote seven years ago and when I received multiple rejections I kind of lost heart. Now I've come back to it, edited it slightly and gone through the self publishing.
I say it's a crime story, but it's a bit of a complicated one. It's written as an autobiography (fictional I hasten to add) of a serial killer, but a different kind of killer, as she first starts when she is just a little girl. You can see more if you like on my website www.lmsteel.co.uk
Baby Driver Take It To The Limit

I'm a bit of a strange one as I like to write crime and chick lit, however my preferred reading is fantasy and adventure. I love Narnia, Abarat, Harry Potter and anything like that, but I also love a good mystery and suspense thriller. I will however, give more or less anything a read, except really scary horror, as I am easily terrified and had nightmares for three months after reading Stephen Kings It, (I was 26!) I don't mind reading controversial books, but if I will be very honest if it is too offensive.

My next project is a kind of parallel tale to Once Upon A Set Of Wheels about a family going through their own criminal development at the same time. However before that I am trying to finish a short, comedy piece which is actually a true story that is just too hilarious not to tell.

Not sure what else to tell you really, I guess writing crime comes from the same inspiration as my chosen profession (I'm a forensic analyst) Although I have succumbed to the corporate world rather than the justice one (There is a recession on and they were the only ones with a job.)

I've never joined an internet group or anything like that before, other than facebook, so this all new to me and don't really know what to do next in regards to the discussions, so any suggestions would greatly appreciated.
Thanks and nice to meet you all.

message 4117: by Brian (last edited Dec 04, 2012 04:10PM) (new)

Brian Duncan I've been writing all my life. I submitted manuscripts etc to agents and publishers without success. My latest novel was written twenty years ago, but failed to pass the keepers of the gatehouse. Then, about two years ago I had a chance conversation with a poet who had published through CreateSpace. I investigated and self-published my novel 'The Settler' in March 2012. It was a bit daunting - like walking naked onto a stage - but I'm glad I persevered. The book has been well reviewed and has sold over a thousand copies, despite it's somewhat niche genre.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Settler-e...

I will continue to scribble as long as my wits stay with me. I'm glad I've found Goodreads - a great site.

My best wishes to you all.
Brian

I'm the author of 20-plus books, including Beach Blanket Zombie: Weird Tales of the Undead and Other Humanoid Horrors and Monster Behind The Wheel (this one I co-authored with Michael McCarty). These and most of my books are available from Amazon.com and of course, from their publishers.

I love writing about monsters, and most of my books are overflowing with them!

My favorite authors include H.P. Lovecraft, Robert Aickman, Robert Block, August Derleth, Bram Stoker, and Basil Copper.

Shauna Bickley (shaunabickley) Hi I'm Shauna Bickley, living in Auckland, New Zealand. I'm a passionate reader who also loves to write.

By day I write technical manuals and training materials, and in any spare time I write novels. My first was published in UK - Driftwood, and I published Lives Interrupted last year.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0062WC95E

Lives Interrupted is a contemporary drama, while Driftwood is a woman-in-jeopardy romantic novel.

I enjoy reading crime, thriller and detective novels, interspersed with some contemporary drama, and a sprinkling of the more serious end of women's fiction (okay chicklit if you insist!!)

Look forward to talking with you all.

Marília Bonelli | 51 comments Hi, everyone!
My name is Marília and I live in Brazil. I'm always writing and having ideas, and I have a collection of notebooks, date planners, random papers and even napkins filled with story notes.

I have one self-published book here on goodreads so far: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15...

Grace is fantasy story, and the title refers to a 24-hour grace period at the end of the characters' lives. It's a bit of a murder mystery and a bit of an adventure, too...

I love reading fantasy, sci-fi, and mysteries, though real life hasn't let me do much of that lately.

I hope I get too meet a lot of other people who love stories as much as I do. This seems like the right place. ;)

Sarah Honenberger (sarahhonenberger) | 10 comments I'm a fanatic about strong writing, character driven stories. Just sent my latest novel ms off to the editor. But I'm listening to the first audio book of one of my novels, released on November 20. Such fun to hear a boy's voice for Daniel Solstice Landon, the character in Catcher, Caught. Nick Podahl is the reader, apparently does a lot of sci fi for Brilliance Audio. Anyway, it's a high point of my month, thought I'd share it. And I'm trying to figure out the audible.com deal, to see if I should get it on my iPhone.

Or take a used copy to an author's event at the library and the author will sign for you. Name's John Rosengren. In first grade, I broke the school record--set by my older brother the year before--for most books read. I haven't stopped since. Love to read, mostly literature, fiction and nonfiction, including--but not limited to--sports. Was an English major, studied with Jon Hassler and J.F. Powers at St. John's University. Did a master's in creative writing at Boston University, where I studied with Derek Walcott and Saul Bellow, among others. Have published six books with another on the way in March and another the following year. Make my living as a freelance writer of magazine articles and books. Look forward to getting to know the rest of you.

Billy Wong | 39 comments Hello, I'm Billy and I'm mainly a fantasy writer although I do write some plain non-fantasy action too. I specialize in writing about butt-kicking female warriors and embrace over the top action in my stories, as I'm inspired by larger than life epic heroes like Beowulf. I don't have a real author website yet, but you can see some of the work I've done at my blog:

Also, the free preview of "Gothic Warrior and the Dark Man" at Amazon gives a pretty good idea of the type of stuff I write, except for it not being heroic fantasy but contemporary.
