Oh, Patricia, go look at the thread (this is me being excited by how it turned out)! I found an overwhelming number of titles. Not all are age-appropriate for a 13-year-old, but hey, it's the thought that counts. My friend who asked me for suggestions is a smart lady. She'll figure it all out. Thanks for asking!
Susan,I had read this post with great interest--just a really intriguing book-related question.

Hi Karen, This looks like a great book for my godsons, thanks for letting us know about it ;-)
The most interesting part of the question, Patricia, was how many people focused entirely on the Holocaust. There's so much more to Jewish lit these days. And no one brought up some of the classic immigrant fiction, either -- Malamud, for example, might be okay for a girl this age (but would she be interested? That's a different question). It turned into a very cool experience that was VERY bad for my wishlist!
I'm not sure if it is Susan or Patricia who is looking for a good read for a 13 year old ... perhaps Jewish girl. May I suggest my memoir, Becoming Alice, about a little girl who escaped the Nazis in Europe only to face the problems of adjusting to American life. Check out http://www.alicerene.com
Happy ready, Alice
It's me, Alice. Thanks. I'll update my blog post with it and send this on to the friend who's the one actually in search of books.
Hello. My name is Stephen Penner and I am the author and illustrator of a children's chapter book series entitled "Professor Barrister's Dinosaur Mysteries." Book #1 - "The Case of the Truncated Troodon" is on Goodreads and also available at Amazon.com, BN.com and other online booksellers. Book #2 - "The Case of the Armored Allosaurus" will be available in June and Book #3 is scheduled for September. For more info, visit http://www.ProfessorBarrister.com.
HI Alice: so you are a German Jew who fled Nazi Germany in which year and from where? Europe is big. I am doing a research book on WWII and had interviewed 13 Germans. The POV of my book is from the German perspective. I know a gentleman in the city of Menden who was half-Jew and he survived the Nazi persecution. I also read a story about another German boy during WWII who is half-Catholic and half-Jew and he served in the Nazi Army. A fascinating read if you can read German, of course.Have a blessed day.

Hello all!I'm Elizabeth Isaacs, author of THE LIGHT OF ASTERIA, and I have been a member of Goodreads for about a month now. The majority of my time on Goodreads has been spent reading old posts, and I must say I find all of you fascinating. Thank you for letting me be apart of your life, for sharing your story with me.
Hi everyone, I am super excited and wanted to let you all know, my new website is up! Please come take a look around! Fun Fun Fun! http://www.CrystalMarcos.com BELLYACHE: A Delicious Tale
Crystal, it is important to remember that not everyone uses the same font size in their browsers. When someone with a larger font size views some of the pages on your site, the text overwrites other text: http://cfajohnson.com/testing/crystal...
Hello there. My name is Clifford Scovell. I posted here some time ago, but wanted to update everyone on my exciting news. My book, Prison Earth - Not Guilty as Charged, has been selected as a finalist for the Next Generation Indie Awards in the Science Fiction category. Out of thousands of entries, only four finalists are picked in each category. For those of us working through small publishers or even self publishing, this is like winning an Olympic medal. Thanks for listening.

Most people who are affected don't bother commenting; they just leave the site.

Another thing to watch is text color vs. background color. My vision isn't the best and I must generally enlarge the text and may not be able to read it at all if it is dark on dark or light on light. I generally leave the site if I can't read it.
My name is Simon Acland and I have just published my first novel, called The Waste Land (rather pretentiously, some might say!).
It tells the story of Hugh de Verdon, monk turned knight, during the extraordinary events of the First Crusade. He journeys from the great Benedictine monastery of Cluny to Constantinople, Antioch and Jerusalem. He encounters the Assassins, undergoes a crisis of faith, and discovers the 'truth' behind the Holy Grail.
Hugh's tale is retold by a group of desperate Oxford Professors, based on his autobiographical manuscript, discovered in thier College library. Their humorous and murderous story provides a commentary on the eleventh century events and shows that they are perhaps not all they seem.
The Eliot reference comes about partly because the book blends legends of the Grail with Ovid, as the poem does, and there are elements of all of these woven into the story. Douglas Hurd said that it "will be thoroughly enjhoyed by anyone with a taste for rollicking adventure laced with a subtle dose of literary learning". Tim Waterstone was kind enough to describe it as "highly original and a most enjoyable read". I just meant it to be entertaining!

Hi all. I'm new to Goodreads and am looking forward to it. My historical espionage thriller The Losing Role is out as a multi-format e-book.I like to write what I read -- any crime or mystery thriller with elements of noir and often a historical setting. The mid-20th Century in Europe fascinates me, I studied the era, and it's often what I return to. How could such an advanced society almost destroy itself?
The Losing Role follows that path: Near the grim end of World War II a failed German actor, Max Kaspar, is forced to join a desperate secret mission in which he must impersonate an enemy American officer. So Max cooks up his own fanatical plan - he'll use his false identity to escape tyranny and war and flee to the America he'd once abandoned.
The Losing Role is available for the Amazon Kindle, on Smashwords, in the iPad Bookstore and coming soon to the Barnes & Noble, Kobo and Sony Reader e-book stores along with my novels Besserwisser: A Novel and False Refuge.
Happy reading,
Steve
Hello everyone from upstate New York. Romance fiction writing and screenplays is what I do and my passion for penning entertaining works runs as hot as my joy for reading and seeing them on the big screen. Glad to be on board with my fellow authors. Stop by say hello and have a safe, happy and joyous weekend.
Hi,My name is Toby Ball and my first book, a dystopian thriller called The Vaults, will be out in September from St. Martin's Press.
I've been poking around the site the past few days and it's been very interesting so far to see what people are reading and what they have to say.
There's more about my book at my website and blog: tobyball.com. I look forward to spending more time here.
Susan wrote: "It's me, Alice. Thanks. I'll update my blog post with it and send this on to the friend who's the one actually in search of books."Hi Susan, Sorry for the late reply. Life situations kept me away from messages on the internet for three weeks. I just want to say thanks and what is your blog address?
New joiner here. I was a late starter to the writing life. As a teenager I used to write song lyrics (mostly in unsuccessful attempts to get into girls' pants by singing and playing guitar.) I also wrote a few supernatural short stories around then, but didn't show them to anybody apart from a few friends that didn't understand them.
That was that for a long time. Uni, beer, more women, a job in IT and a marriage that almost immediately turned into a divorce later and I was suddenly in my 30s. The only creative outlet I'd had was as a Dungeon Master playing D&D (I'll get my coat.)
When that fizzled out I found I still had stories in my head that wanted to be told. But I was also a -serious- drinker. I was working long hours then hitting the pub most nights. Booze got in the way of any discipline I needed to write.I got sober in the early '90s. Around 1991 I started to write the stories down and submit them to UK small press mags.
It's been a slow but steady progression from there. I'm now well into double figures in professional short story sales, have two movies under way this year from my scripts, and have hit double figures in novels in the small-press.

I introduced myself earlier, but didn't mention my blog, http://homecomingbook.wordpress.com/ It's pretty wide ranging: discussing aspects of my book, explaining insulin pumps, why have an editor, the problems with poor design, and even a snatch of my poetry. Nothing over 1000 words at a time--drop by sometime.

Thank you for the opportunity to introduce my self. My name is Malika Bourne and I have an announcement. The Secrets of the Unwritten Book has now been written , and published in this dimension! I co-authored our first paranormal fantasy with my best friend, Grace Rose.
I used to read about five books a week, until I got lost in writing the Secrets of the Unwriten Book.
I had hand written and illustrated children's books but never published them. My grown children still treasure them. But, I had not even written or typed more than two paragraphs in forty years. I learned to use the computer three and a half years ago. I have come along ways! Grace won't touch a computer.
Our book is published and we have begun to implement our marketing plan. I have blogs on Twitter under the name Malika's Secrets titled The Secrets of the Unwritten Book. I tell secrets about writing the book. We have a lots of oops!
I have not figured out how to tell any how to find my blog. So if any one is savy and kind, will you please give me a clue? Thank you. Malika
