Jennings Wright | 47 comments Hi, I'm Jennings Wright. I just published my first novel, Solomon's Throne, last week. (I've submitted the request for an author page here on GR today.) It's an thriller treasure hunt, and great fun! (Here's the Amazon link, and it's also available on Nook and CreateSpace: http://www.amazon.com/Solomons-Throne...)

David Katzman (daviddavid) Greetings,

My name is David David Katzman, and I'm the author of two novels. (And, yes, my first and middle names really are both David. My parents' fault.) I'm an experimental writer who likes to break genres, push boundaries, and explore innovative and original creative expressions.

My first novel is Death by Zamboni , which I describe as an absurdist satire. A bit like what might happen if Monty Python had written a noir detective story. It's in the family of Mark Leyner. I published my second novel at the end of 2011. It's called A Greater Monster , and I like to think there isn't any other novel quite like it. I describe it as psychedelic fairytale. Roughly like Alice in Wonderland meets Williams S. Burroughs. But with multimedia aspects to it. A Greater Monster recently won a Gold Medal as "Outstanding Book of the Year" in the 2012 Independent Publisher Book Awards.

In addition to being an author, I love reading and writing reviews. I tend toward the fantastical, the boundary pushing, and the odd and uncommercial. I can be a harsh critique when I dislike a book, but I'm ecstatic with praise when I love something. I'm also a bit of a comic book addict, and I review graphic novels when I come across something remarkable. I'm currently working on a comic book short story that will hopefully come out next year. Please check out some of my reviews, and if you find them interesting, feel free to send me a friend request.

I have also been in and out of the theater & improv worlds. I had an improv team for several years that performed every other week.

Hi, Michael! I just read your IMPRESSIVE introduction from a couple of days ago. Wow! I think that, when it comes to planning my novels'... writing/editing/publishing/marketing/panicking/marketing/panicking... I'm the anti-Michael. :( Now, at age 66 (I'm 35 on the inside... Honest!), I've been diagnosed with ADHD (go figure), so I'm learning that, with a little help, I don't need to jump into the whirlwind of my brain and just start pulling STUFF out. Therefore, I would be MOST interested in following your PROMISING CAREER. I totally agree with your perspective, by the way.

I just grabbed your novel off Amazon.

Yours most sincerely,
JoAnn Hague

Randy Martin (rhmartin) | 7 comments Hello,
My name is Randy H. Martin and I am new to Goodreads. I've written a couple of Sci fi novels one of which is Introrse: Where the Spirits Speak. The second Introrse: The King's Whisper is being made publishable as an e-book. A few years back my editor suggested journal entries on our website Introrse.org. The following is a recent post as a sample of out attempts to entertain, enlighten and stimulate new ways of looking at the world.

Butterflies and Hurricanes
A Ludicrous Metaphor That Makes Sense Amidst all the Nonsense

There is a journal entry (7/25/10) titled Wormholes and Butterflies. How odd is it that exactly two years later butterflies are again the topic of discussion?! Anyway mystery aside and logic to the front. In the 7/25/10 entry the idea is that because of the way butterflies fly there must be wormholes. How else can they go from over here to over there with a single flap of those lovely wings? Since it is obvious butterflies travel wormholes they must contain in their DNA, knowledge for navigating wormholes. Considering our assault on the environment, chemical and otherwise, we can be certain (Who needs proof when you have logic?) there must be butterflies with damaged DNA. We can conclude then the probability of a butterfly with damaged DNA taking the wrong wormhole and ending up in a hurricane is highly likely, no doubt just as probable, maybe even statistically more so than that first amphibian evolving into our earliest land dwelling ancestor. No sarcasm intended as sarcasm and seriousness rarely mix well.
Back to damaged butterflies and hurricanes. Following the same line of logic let’s assume butterflies think. Who needs proof when you have prosperity? What might be some thoughts of the butterfly that suddenly finds itself exiting a wormhole into a hurricane? ‘Itself’ is used to render a gender neutral discussion for the sake of political correctness. Political correctness should always take priority over truths that offend. I think we can assume, statistically speaking while maintaining political correctness of course both butterfly sexes are equally prone to finding themselves in hurricanes.
Back to the question of what thoughts might the butterfly suddenly finding itself in a hurricane have? (What or the odds we could have two paragraphs in a row beginning with the word ‘back’? Certainly further proof damaged butterflies inadvertently take wormholes into hurricanes.)
The metaphor revealed: Might the thoughts of the butterfly in the hurricane be similar to those of people (notice: gender neutral) suddenly realizing their government has morphed from being a republic to a socialist regime?
Some thoughts I thought the butterfly might initially have were: How did this happen? I thought I was safe. Who is in charge of this hurricane?
In the past friends, family and family who are also friends when asked important questions have had enlightening answers. I decided to make some calls.
There were basically two responses. Some suggested the butterfly in the hurricane might think; “How do I get out of here?” The second, handled gently by all but one family member was “Well, the first thought that comes to mind is ‘oh sh—!”
Humbled butterflies, once over the shock of finding themselves in a hurricane, might by the grace of God find the calm in the eye of the storm.
An undeniable truth is the increasing violence among us and that of our planet trying to cope with our influences on it. What escapes those attempting to quell the violence is the fact that everywhere we’ve taken God out of, has left a vacuum and what inevitably fills these vacuums are some kind of violence. Godless decisions are butterflies whose flapping wings increase the strength of the hurricanes.
After reading this my wife says she still does not believe butterflies travel wormholes, her logic being if they could see them so could she. She is not inferior to butterflies. She also believes sarcasm and seriousness walk hand in hand. Could be.

Walter Spence (walterspence) | 9 comments Good day, all. My name is Walter Spence, and I am a writer.

(Insert obligatory twelve-step reference here.)

I just joined Goodreads, so I do not yet have an author profile. Not only that, my novel (House of Shadows) is not yet accessible via the Goodreads database. Guess the (also obligatory) link spamming will have to wait a while.

I've been a member of SFWA (Science fiction and Fantasy Writers of America) since October of 1993, qualifying for such august status through a collaboration with fantasy author Holly Lisle titled The Devil & Dan Cooley.

My primary hobby (if you can call it that) is investing. Warren Buffett is my hero, despite the fact that we have completely differing investment philosophies. Oh well, you know what they say about how opposites attract...

I knew I wanted to be a writer since my elementary school years, though at the time all I knew was that I liked telling stories. My goal was to see how outrageous a tale I could tell and still be believed. Had trouble convincing my cousin at around age eight of the existence of the Pumpkin People, but I've gotten better over time. I think.

Look forward to joining in on the discussions.

Michael Parker (michaelparker) | 99 comments Although I've been a member of Goodreads for some time, I have only just joined this group. I tend to shy away from this kind of activity, but if I'm to help spread the word about myself, I know active groups like this can only help. My name is Michael Parker. I am 71 and an established writer with eight hardback novels to my credit. I have been writing most of my life and had my first novel published by Macmillan in 1980. I thought I had it made, but how wrong I was. 1984 saw my second novel published but not by Macmillan. Then a long wait until 2007 when Robert Hale Ltd. of London published my third novel. Since then they have published another five. The latest, THE BOY FROM BERLIN has been taken up by Harlequin for their paperback imprint in North American and Canada. They have also made an offer for another of my novels. Last year I became a Kindle author (Yeah!), and have managed to get four of my books on Amazon with reasonable success. You can learn more about me, my life and my writing at www.michaeljparker.com. Hope you drop in sometime.

I don't write anymore, as I suspect my muse must have stepped out in front of a moving vehicle. I thought perhaps by joining this group I might encounter and latch onto another, recently-abandoned muse, and become inspired once again to put pen to paper (or fingers to keys). They all seem to be taken, however.

Hey Ted.
I'm an author who loves to read not only books but the languages of creation. It is where we get most of our ideas from, I think. Anyway my name is Randy H. Martin. My first novel Introrse: Where the Spirits Speak is available from numerous sources. In my opinion it falls loosely into the Sci fi genre.
Introrse means to face inward toward the central axis of growth. The title is based on the concept that when we were created we were designed with awareness for both the physical and spiritual dimensions. It seems though not absolute that most of the influences from the spiritual dimension come from within.
I also write one page Journal entries, about 3 or 4 a month based on Walker Percy's belief that writers should write about their culture. The journal entries get posted on my website Introrse.org.

Hope you enjoy.
