Tanya (tkgough) | 16 comments Hi All! I'm Tanya Karen Gough, and this is my puppy:

Root Bound (Emma & the Elementals, #1) by Tanya Karen Gough Root Bound
Genre: Fantasy Action Adventure
Ages: 10+

As a reader, I tend to jump back and forth between classics and modern literature to sci fi and fantasy. Lately, I've been on a bit of a horror kick, mostly because it's the only genre I haven't already decimated.

I'm looking forward to sharing with you.

Sophie (sophierose1990) Hi everyone,

my name's Sophie. My home is at http://verdictbookreviews.blogspot.co..., where as you can guess by the name, I conduct book reviews.

One of the aims of starting my blog was to open my reading spectrum to different books outside of those I would usually pick. Though I have my favourites, I read and review any genre.

I update my reviews on Good Reads. I joined a couple of months back but have only really touched the tip of the ice-berg with this site.

For my day job I'm a flood risk analyst and emergency planner. I'm committed to my blog, it's my baby, so if anyone wants to pop by please click on the link above.

I look forward to getting to know some of you better. It's nice to be alongside like-minded people or as I term 'book nutters' :)

Sophie.

I love suspenseful books that bend reality just about as far as you can without actually breaking it - although breaking it can be fun too.

Steve Tiller (stevetiller) | 2 comments Boat & WindSteve Tiller

Hello!
My name is Steve. I have about 12 books out under Right Stuff Kids Books. I have just joined GoodReads and wondering the best way to use the system to 'promote my books' without getting into trouble! Something I suspect a lot of authors try to do - and get in trouble fairly frequently. I have been lightly lurking in the background a little. I don't want to get in trouble! So I hope this first post (except a couple of emails to the librarians!) is ok.
I am self published and after 8 or 9 years of this I am thinking may have been an error. I have three of four more books in process and am thinking of getting an agent to push them to publishers. Jury is still out on that thought.
Right now I am redoing to website and plan to become more visible by blogging and joining groups such as GoodReads, Amazon Authors, and Jacket Flap. Website is www.rightstuffkidsbooks.com
Although my books have won several awards- since I am not in the mainstream, I am pretty much unknown.
I write in the children's picture book space. I am working on something for adults currently as well as 3 or 4 children's books that I have finished but never published.
I live in Atlanta. I have always been a single dad pretty much and raised three children. One boy, (or man now- Ben) who is married to Leslie. Both are elementary school teachers. I have two girls. Katie and Rachel. Katie graduated this year and will be attending University of Georgia. Rachel is my youngest and is pictured with me ( if I did it right!). She will be a junior this year although she is a little younger in the picture.
I am currently reading Michael Hyatt's "Platform", and an E Book by him. I like to garden some. I have been in self help groups for the last 33 years so a lot of evening time is spent seeing friends, and going to meetings or spiritual groups. I am, as a friend recently put it, a 'dedicated heterosexual' and I do date.
I haven't been writing much in the last year although I have been thinking, collecting information, and blogging short articles which I will be releasing when the new site becomes available.
I have spent some time in the last year studying Search Engine Optimization, Google Analytics, Search Engine Marketing in online courses.
I have a lasting interest in spirituality and the study of character values. What I write for children generally deals with these lightly and in the background of the story.
I originally got into writing thinking I wanted to do a story for adults - the great american novel of course- and found I was in over my head. God- the Universe- or Writing Muse - or something kept pushing me into ever simpler formats until I got a story completed. I have been writing children's picture books ever since. My first book won a Benjamin Franklin in 2001 or 2002. Over the years I have also won a Visionary Award, Georgia Author of the Year, and a couple of runner ups, and a Writer's Digest Merit Recommendation.
Recently that old desire to create something for adults has come up. It builds on two interests that I have - values and parenting. I am working out the details and organization. I have done some writing on it so I know I am interested in the project.
I kind of write when the spirit strikes I suppose. So I call myself an inspirational writer. I rarely sit down and just write. I usually have an idea that inspires me to write based on some idea or concept that I want convey . My favorite type of writing - even for kids- is a story that exists on two levels. It tells a story - but then also conveys a spiritual meaning or lesson about life at the same time. For instance Boat & Wind is about a friendship between the two, and at the same time is really about the concept of faith and belief in things you can not see. Those 'parable' stories -for lack of a better term- are fun for me. It creates a story for the kids, but allows parents to take the story to another level and begin to teach children some things the parents might find important to teach.
So if anybody has advice for me on the best uses or ways 'not self promote' but get readers interested in my work. I would love to hear from you. If I have already screwed up by posting this - I am sure I will be pilloried most properly within a day or two. Please forgive me, if I have overstepped my bounds in anyway. The group description seemed to say it was ok to kind of tell who we are, why we are here, and tell something about our books. If I have overstepped the promotional line- please forgive me, I did not mean to do so. It is my intention to be a good member of the community and participate in ways that are recognized to be good for everyone.
I am very open to talking about myself, books and answering inquiries about writing for children if readers have questions about the writing process or the self publishing process. I spent several years working with children in schools as a visiting author. I will be happy to respond to all inquiries. I will check back occasionally but if you need to contact me - I will be happy to provide my email address as well - I dont do so right now because I dont know if there is a rule against it! So I offer a small prayer before sending this out-
(Please God, Let me not overstep the bounds of self promotion - I have seen some posts where the bodies of dead authors seemed heaped up for the crows to feed on!) Steve Tiller

Steve Tiller (stevetiller) | 2 comments I'll comment on Steve Tiller's Post- Steve, you learned something today. The post is too long. Even for me -and I wrote it! Don't try to be so chatty. It really isn't your style. This social medium is hard! I am not a very social person. I mostly write, or listen to others- being social is very difficult in many ways for me. Just ask my daughters!

Hello Steve! I did not find your post passing the line or anything. It was just really quite long and people usually just breifly say who they are rather then a small biography ;) Of course that's fine and it's refreshing to read longer posts. It's very nice to see an experienced self published author. So, the self publishing world wasn't for you? Glad to meet you and I hope you learn your way around. Oh and Welcome!

Kimberley Gold (goodreadscomkimberley_gold) | 5 comments Hello all,

I’m new to the blogging world but wanted to connect with fellow readers and authors.

I am a passionate writer, and am well-read in a variety of genres.

I have travelled all over the world and lived in South Africa, England, and Australia, with my husband Kewyn.

I enjoy being outdoors and am an avid cyclist.

I have recently published my own novel, titled Dating Games, available for purchase on Amazon, via this link: (paperback editions to follow)

http://www.amazon.com/Dating-Games-eb...

If you are interested in this genre of fiction, then please feel free to order a copy of my book and let me know what you think. All feedback, both positive and negative, is welcome. If you enjoy this book, please tell your friends and family about it.

Description:

Scarlett Harper’s glamorous visions of life as a personal assistant on an investment bank’s trade floor, aren’t quite working out the way she’d hoped. Where were the marriage proposals from rich hedge-fund bankers, and tickets to the front row at London’s Fashion Week?

Newly-single and armed only with advice from well-meaning friends, Scarlett is thrust into the unfamiliar Singles Scene as she attempts to navigate through a minefield of disastrous dates with men who aren’t all they seem, steamy liaisons on the picturesque Greek island of Santorini, and extravagant parties in opulent English country manors.

Will she ever meet her Mr Right and more importantly, will she ever fit into those size ten jeans again?

Follow the ups and downs of the dating game with Scarlett and her best friends, as they encounter hostile ex-wives, militant gym instructors, and eccentric relatives, helped along the way by copious amounts of wine and large bars of chocolate.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Kim

my name is Alex Bobl, I'm a science fiction writer.

I've just joined, great to meet you all!

Live in Moscow with wife and two boys and is currently working on my new PA novel, The Continent Anomalous.
I like read Strugackie and Abercrombie, and many others SF & Fantasy writers. Like fishing, skate and ski, meet and talk with interesting people.

I will be glad if someone could be interested to have a look at Memoria, a science fiction dystopian thriller:

In the bombed-out streets of New York, the corrupt bosses of Memoria Corporation make billions by erasing people's traumatic memories. But their bubble bursts when a humble citizen Frank Shelby becomes a murder suspect on the run. Betrayed by his friends and hunted down by mysterious killers, Frank has to penetrate Memoria and find evidence of their real plans before it's too late for all of us.

Memoria is my first book available in English. At the momemt I wrote 11 novels, they all published, some of which have been translated into German and Spanish.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Only one so far, but its more of review-type...Verdict Book Reviews-Sophie (Dusting) from our group.

message 3139: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sophierose1990) Gerri - yes my blog is more reader oriented. I review based on many key elements of a novel [plot, pace, narrative, characters, themes, ideas, dialogue, language used, setting and so on]. I try to give quite an in-depth review aside from whether I liked the novel or not. I aim for the review to be fair and honest.

Here's the link to my blog: http://verdictbookreviews.blogspot.co...

Feel free to drop by and contact me regarding any of my reviews - I also post them on Good Reads as well.

Many thanks for passing on a link of my blog A.M.
